The G-Writer EC is equipped with a Gibson Player Port™. The Player Port is an original Gibson concept from the early 1960s that has been refined by our acoustic luthier team to deliver a truly revolutionary sonic improvement that adds a new dimension to the sound. The Gibson Player Port allows you to hear the guitar as you're playing it like you've never heard it before-the same way your audience hears it-maximizing the sonic impact for an immersive playing and listening experience. The G-Writer EC is part of the Generation™ Collection. Like all models in this collection, it is made in Bozeman, MT, by the same highly skilled craftspeople who make all Gibson acoustics. It features a solid Sitka spruce top and beautiful solid walnut back and sides for tone that sounds crisp and resonant. You'll feel that the slightly thinner cutaway body is more comfortable to play, and provides effortless access to the upper frets. The TUSQ® nut and saddle, along with the Grover® Mini Rotomatic® tuners deliver solid tuning stability so you can spend more time playing instead of tuning, and the utile neck with its easy-playing Advanced Response neck profile is so comfortable you won't want to put it down. It also comes equipped with an LR Baggs™ Element Bronze pickup system, so your G-Writer EC will sound as good to your audience as it does to you. A gig bag is also included.

My Dad always wanted a 'Kalamazoo ' (Gibson) probably because his Church had a Martin. Got him a Songwriter. He played his last on it at age 98.2 years. Quinton has a long way to go! Thanks.

Mahogany neck, ebony fretboard, satin finish (lessen the cost but great feel). Not bad IMO. Not sure about the port but to me it seems like a great acoustic for the price range. Those that love the $3K-$6K+ Gibson acoustic guitars will obviously hate this guitar. I personally love the fact Gibson is offering some cheaper priced acoustic guitars that still are high quality.

You need to play one with the port...man it sounds so sweet. You know how a good guitar sounds when someone else is playing and you are just enjoying the sound? It's like that, except you are the one playing!

I have a Michael Kelly with that sound port. I love it. This Gibson has my attention.

Guitar playability is most important to me. I just bought one of these after looking at Martins, Taylors, and Larivees, because it played better than all of them that I tried out. I prefer the sound of the Martins though.

Sometimes it's not so much the nut width but the spacing between E strings. For example, Seagull's 1.8" nut width and Eastman's 1.75" nut both feature 1.5" string spacing at the nut. I tried one of those G-Writers just yesterday and loved it - really, its nut was just as comfortable as my Eastman E1OM and felt a bit wider than my Seagull S6 Slim (1.72" nut).

Most Gibson acoustic I ever hear have this really dark tone to them at least the ones that are in a working man price point. I’ve played a couple of their 3k price guitars that sound and play amazing but this thing has a well rounded tone for 1,500 price tag I may have to get one.

Do a comparison between these and the regular Gibson line

I like that they are trying something new but I'm not a big fan of the fretboard inlays. I'm curious what others think.

Hi all … I am currently looking at the Songwriter & the inlays will have nothing to do with my decision … yes , I personally think aesthetics are important on a guitar , but I’m more concerned with the sound & playability on this one.

I played the G writer in Sam ash the other day after reading alot of negative reviews . I have to say this was the best sounding and playing guitar in show room . Not sure if its the sound hole facing up at me that gave me that impression , but it sounded great . The neck inlays are a little strange looking ,but im sure they will grow on you after years . I currently play a j 45 standard and J45 advant guarde . I think these will appeal to more of the Taylor style playing guitarist at a better price point

I noticed that you conveniently skipped an opinion of the port. Does it actually add to the experience of playing the thing is the real question and it seems that will be hard to know unless you actually play it but it would be nice to know what you actually think or does Gibson frown on that. I'd suggest a playoff between it and a regular Gibson of the same size.

Breedlove had this port thing many years ago and they didn’t seem to do well. Will be interesting to see how these do. It’s not a new concept.

Gibson advertises the "Player Port" was from design drawings in their files from the 50's or 60's. So Gibson has never claimed it was a new concept. Maybe some uneducated youtubers claimed it but I am only interested in the claims of the manufacturer.

What is the neck profile? Maybe the G-45 might be better for my hand, but unknown neck profile. Thanks Quinton and Paul.

One of their videos they talk about the G Series neck profile as being a "Faster " neck. This is a short scale and wasn't too bad on my hand. However the voice was a bit thin compared to the J-45 I own. Maybe it will fill out with age.

Same as Martin under-$3k-crap - these lack the previous Gibson voicing. Ugh
