I’ve been getting a ton of emails and messages telling me to watch this. Thank you for the mention, Ben. Looking very well too, mate! As always, happy playing! Cheers, David.
You guys truly do the very best demos/reviews... appreciate having you to turn to when contemplating a new guitar... just purchased a lefty G-00... in-transit.. can't wait..
Grab a wine or coffee. Such a nice change and a delight to listen to and watch. No pedals amps or screaming distortion . Ben is one of my favourite presenters
I was thinking about replacing my fg830 and went to the store with the thought of spending a grand on something. I was not impressed and actually disappointed for the 1000 range offerings and just wanted to go home and play my fg. Will need to check these out.
I think the so-called Player Port mic placement would ideally be in the middle between the edge of the port and line-of-sight to the strings. This gives the closest approximation of what the player hears with regard to harmonics coming off the strings plus the direct sound from the port. Interesting guitars. I'd like to try a G-45 to compare with my 2001 Martin Road Series DR.
Each individual guitar regardless of model should sound a bit different if these really are handmade with solid pieces. One of one model may sound uncharacteristic of what is expected. I very much recommend not buying one unless you’ve heard it. And considering how wide the playability is with acoustics, I’d recommend you it as well.
Lurrvely tone! The player port also makes it a hell of a lot easier to get your plectrum out if you drop it in there. ... I reckon that’s the real reason Gibson put ‘em in.😏
I had a Fender F90 (?) from the 70's with a sound port in the top. Someone had bashed it in, in a fit of anger on account that he couldn't play the guitar (he thought it would be easy). I got it really cheap. The sound didn't suffer from the hole in the side (top)
Great guitars if they didn’t have the player port, but then they wouldn’t really be much different to the first G range which was quite a bit cheaper. Shame Gibson had to discontinue the original Gs and the J15 because of margin
Awesome guitars. Keep watching the Gibson Generation and Alvarez Masterworks videos one after the other… Need. Want. Can’t decide which!? I can feel an AndertonsMadeMeDoIt moment coming in the near future 😰
I just picked a g writer on a trade. Its a nice guitar. My Taylor 210 is a hunk of crap. Neck twisted, wood split, way to bright. I know it's a plain Jane but i love this thing. Sounds really good and i guess only time will tell. I paid around $450 for it in trade value so i'm not out a lot of money if she goes south.. Reply Reply
Not too bad. My Taylor 314ce looks almost identical to that Songwriter and was $2000 new. That should be a good value if they sound and play as good. Can’t tell about sound on a RU-vid video. Or playability. Need to get my hands on one
Great guitars..they sound great. The simple construction saves a wad of cash for the buyer but sacrifices little if anything to the tone. Ben's looking good these days, most people have been packing it on during COVID but he's been losing the stones like a boss!
don't get me wrong, these sound great! But I personally don't see why i would spend over 3x what I paid for my electro acoustic from Simon and Patrick. It's a solid spruce top with cutaway built in 1998 and bang for the buck still the best guitar I've played flat out.
I do not like the rectangular fret markers, leave them off and save a few more $/£! A pretty marker at twelfth fret and small dots on the side of neck are all that is needed. Otherwise, I am jealous of these nice guitars.
It is interesting to note that the original G45 from a couple years ago was what started the Generation Series guitars. This second generation G45 has more innovation but does not automatically come with the Fishman on board electronics like the original did.
Plus it was cheaper (the studio version), it came with a beautiful hardcase, it looked better imo, it didn't have the weird hole...., so I'm glad I bought the G-45 Studio when they came out (for +/- £800). I wouldn't be surprised to see them going up in value on the 2nd hand market.
@@mariodriessen9740 I 100% agree with you. I got my G45 Studio from the first run and absolutely love it. Those first runs are already selling over their original asking price on the used market here in the States and I'm betting we will see that value go up.
Acoustic guitars are such an enigma. Go to a handful of guitar shops and play only $3,000 gibsons. Then go back around to all of them and play every used acoustic. 90% of the time you can find a different brand that plays and sounds just like a gibson for under $200. Even if you dont find one, you can really get a better undrstanding of the variety and many differences for such simple guitars. The best acoustic ive played as far as sound and playability is an Ibanez from the 90's. Even compared to Gibsons. Spectacular.
Awwwwww ! the Gibson still have a historic image, and with huge wood stocks they're able to build good instruments light finish gives so full oxygene that sounds very good, and it smells so good !!
I need a Player Port like another hole in my head. But those fret markers on the cutaways here have a very cool art deco vibe I really like. I sure hope the Chinese Yamahas copy it soon so I can buy it on something worth my money.
Yes they do. In fact, my favorite guitar is a Breedlove Solo Concert. I wasn’t sure about the sound port at first but I have never regretted the choice.
Not a fan so far. Maybe they would sound better w Retro strings. I have a D'angelico Excel Bowery CE with Retro strings and acoustically sounds better. I will say that G-writer sounds great plugged in.
Again, no Concert size (G-00 in this case) with a cutaway. I would also have to add electronics. Gibson says 'Utile' on the fretboard? Not a fan of larger bodied guitars. I was raised on electrics
LEE, is $600 a good price for a 2012 cabronita tele, Mexican made, near mint condition? I’m going to look at one tomorrow….NEED FEEDBACK ASAP…. thanks a ton
@ANDERTONS, Unfortunately youtube has started mousetrapping external links. I won't click on them until they stop. Please let them know that your users don't want to have to ask permission to leave RU-vid.
If you are looking for a dreadnought or a strummer, stay away from slim body guitar. I had a Gibson G-45 standard, not enough bass and to much treble (walnut body). I replaced it with an Eastman AC222-CE (ovangkol body), all solid, grand auditorium style at half the price. The Eastman is louder, as more bass and is perfectly balance. I also had a Martin DRS2 (now D-10). I still prefer the Eastman. Maybe one day I will buy a Gibson J-45, the real thing.
