My name is Lucy, I'm a 23-year-old girl from the Netherlands, and I'm here to offer an alternative approach to beauty.
On this channel I do mostly hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies & tv shows and I regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!
I do lifestyle and beauty videos as well, ranging from wearable everyday looks, makeup tips and DIY natural beauty treatments, to fashion lookbooks, vegetarian recipes and more extreme Halloween tutorials.
If you enjoy history, you've come to the right place as well. I have a few series based on historical makeup and hairstyling that are my little passion projects.
Enjoy browsing!
Love,
Lucy

This was interesting to watch, as I always wondered how this look was acheieved many of the ladies in my great grandmoither's sisters 1914 wedding photo have this exact look.

Thank you so much for this lesson. I tried it today for the first time. It came out looking more like a beehive than a Gibson girl, but the two are very similar, just 50 years apart. Lol

Well done Lucy! I have always wondered how they got their hair to be so poofy and yet the bun was so secure. I always thought it was all just drawn up unto a huge bun and that you had to just have a ton of hair.

A Disney villian makeup series would be cool, but I feel like all the Disney princesses all have the same hair: straight, thick, long, and flowing. The only thing that really seems to change is the color.

You can also use hair rats or cut a couple bun things and see together into a oval or circle. You can arrange and tease around your head and place the the rats and then you pull the hair over the rats and then pin into a bun loosely. That's we have at the theatre when we have long enough to work with, either real or with wigs! .

i have 40 inch hair... i have tried to do something similar, but my hair is so long... any tips on how to manage extra length?
@chinadollsyndrome
@chinadollsyndrome 7 лет назад
For this style, the more hair you have, the better the result. Women typically kept their hair only a few inches shorter than that, during this period. It will take more wrapping around your fingers and more pins to support the weight. I would also suggest working in smaller sections - five sections along the front, instead of three as she does in the video, for example. I recently cut my hair, but it was around 3 feet before and these small changes worked for me.

You can do this method or use a hair rat. It saves you so much time. It is what the Gibson Girls would have actually used. No tea no shade.

Easy tutorial to follow but not going to lie the finished product was pretty messy. You could see the hair band in the bun and the bun in general was too tight; gibson girls' hair was loose and voluminous all over, not just in the front. It looks kind of weird when around your face is voluminous and the middle of your hair is flat, so I would recommend redoing the bun at the end so it's loose and airy and fits in with the rest of the hair.
@honestlythetruth6664
@honestlythetruth6664 3 года назад
I thought this style was traditionally done with a hair rat? I noticed gaps in tye front of your bangs. And i think having a shaper to pull the hair tight over would help with that and even volume....And the teazzing you did looks a bit frizzyer compared to pictures of the era. But still looks good i dont want to discurage you at all its fabulous.
@bluedancelilly
@bluedancelilly 3 года назад
This isnt how they did it though. They didnt roll their hair like that to get the rounded look. They would use hair rats - a tube around the bun (a stocking with old cut hair stuffed inside) that they'd then pull the outer hair over and pin into it. This would create a more uniform updo. The look you have here (with the bun so separate from the outer portion) isnt the Gibson Girl look. See old photos.
