Giethoorn, known as the Netherlands' most enchanting and picturesque village, is a place where the only modes of transportation for its residents are sailing, walking, or biking. This Dutch village attracts one million visitors annually.
Giethoorn is situated in the northeastern part of the Dutch province of Overijssel, is renowned for its minimal car usage. The village is distinguished by its numerous canals, walking paths, bike trails, and historic thatched-roof cottages. It is adjacent to a segment of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, known for its marshlands that were once used for peat and reed collection. The Museum Giethoorn ‘t Olde Maat Uus, located near the park, is a farm museum that showcases the area's historical background.
In this video, I'll recount my journey to Giethoorn, detailing how to get there and back, as well as what you should anticipate from the visit.
