The beauty of waiting 10-12 months. I was able to get my wife the GIGABYTE AERO 5 XE4 version with the same cpu/gpu and OLED Samsung Screen. Has a ton of ports, not to mention thunderbolt, full size SD Card Reader and WIFI 6e!! really nice laptop. Came out in Oct. 2022 so the price had come down at $1200 which is great for its specs and portability.
Just got this laptop, from gaming on a gtx 1650 for years, (even if its not the best gaming laptop) its still a huge upgrade in gaming for me. But as a creator laptop it has been amazing, lack of ports isn't a big deal because even if it had all the extra ports I would still be using a dock. Great review gentlemen!
I came for the specs, but found the form issues most interesting. I often find myself saying about many items, not just tech: "Did the people who designed this thing know that humans would be using it?"
Thanks Adam & Gordon for a great review! I saw AERO 16 XE5-73US948H on sale for great discount (some people were saying these machines are NOT selling well thus the discount now in Jan 2023). I'm finding you review VERY useful as I want to make a good decision to find a good machine and not just buy b/c it is cheap. So far, I'm NOT liking their lack of ports, their extension hub design and lack of SDHC card reader.
I have this machine, it's a beast. Yes, to some the lack of ports is a drawback, however on many laptops the OEMs put in SD card readers that don't perform well anyway. You can get very inexpensive USB C 3.2 card readers that are way faster than an OEM would put in. With Thunderbolt on board of this, expansion is simple. To dock this at a desk you'll need a dock/usb hub anyway, the lack of ports doesn't deter in that scenario. I wouldn't let the lack of ports to be a reason why not to get this machine. The screen is amazing, the specs are great and gigabyte runs them $1000 off, you just can't beat the deal.
Manufacturers are making their I/O decisions to make their laptops suitable for an art museum display, not for user functionality. They all need to put aside their engineering degrees and learn marketing and consumer needs.
This thing is 1400 right now at best buy. insane. Upgraded from an old ryzen 9 (not bad tbh) with a 2060 max q. this is WAY better in pretty much every way. I actually prefer the port layout as it has thunderbolt 4 x2 and works perfectly with my old dell hub.
Still rocking the Aero 15v8 i7 8750h 1070 Max-Q with 32gb of Ram, honestly the gigabyte 15.6 12700h + 3070 is probably the next step for me but part of me is starting to appreciate the 16inch silver premium look vs black fingerprint magnet
Funnily enough I did end up getting the Aorus 15 se 12700h + 3070 and 32 gb of ram( swapped over) as an open box for 850! Honestly pretty beast of a machine although having opened both aero and aorus I can see this is a "gaming first" over premium device Lots of plastics and chunkier design
For the Dongle people that silver Laptop won't be a problem at all.. I'm with Adam on this one though.. I dig the ports on the black one really thats more than enough for me.. I am yet to used thunderbolt 4 for anything.. I use Type A thumb drives myself but the industry is going to push us to start using those Type C ports for other than charging LOL..
GN Sent me so welcome back :) On the laptop, that's giving up a lot for the formfactor. Even a more generous hub is asking a lot of one port to do as well which is a shame because the performance jump is impressive.
I picked up this same exact model from BestBuy for $1599.99 when Amazon was doing their prime day deals a few weeks ago. I already had the Aero 17 with the 120hz 4k mini led display and I definitely prefer the 16" Samsung OLED display. Also, I didn't see much performance differences between the DDR 4 and DDR5 Ram. It's looking like I got over like a fat rat.
Flipping heck... I own a gigabyte from 2019, very happy with it because of the form factor and the ports. I was looking to upgrade with their newest model and they pull out this. Thicker, heavier with the ports of a dell xps...
I had this laptop for about a year now and at first hated the screen because of tearing....turn on v sync to 60 and voila its perfect, I didnt even know it was oled now i love the damn thing even more. My local computer store had a killer deal on it too thats why i opted on the 60hz screen, for the 3070ti in there and the resolution its pushing its actually decent enough.
Have they ever made a such thing as a perfect laptop? It seems like there's always something I don't like about all of them. Even something as stupid as the placement of the del key. (Looking at my Omen15)
I can't decide between this laptop with gigabyte aorus 5 se4 ,core i7 12700,3070ti 16gigabyte ram, 512 gigabyte storage ssd, Wich the best for gaming and graphic design and 3d rendering ?!
They were smart to keep the bottom of that laptop wide open to get the heat out of it.. I wish they would do that with AMD Laptops.. There should always be 2 high end fans and heat piping set up with totally vented bottoms like that one is that you guys are looking at even in laptops with just a 6800U in them. Give thow's chips dual fans and open bottoms and they will run games in 1080p all day. Even if it has some mesh.. I love a really good APU.. Thats just me.. I know this laptop is on a whole other level.. But I've always been of the mindset of having a beastly Desktop and a mid low mid level laptop for portability, Not for full on gaming and video editing. But if this is all you were going to have, It's worth it.. It can do desktop type stuff kinda.. And it games very nice I am sure..
Hey was wondering, how do you maintain oled screen life with this laptop? Unlike Asus which have myasus app. Thanks. Is it even possible to use those on this? 😅
Gentlemen & your loyal subscribers: I just purchased a refurbished AERO 15 OLED KD-72US623SP from Newegg. I’m not a techie, content creator or even a gamer. I just stream a lot of sports n movies & was digging the screen. I’ve read a lot of negative reviews &/or comments about issues with this model & I’m nervous bout this purchase. I have the ability to refuse delivery n can get full refund but for $1100 dollars there’s nothing with 4K Oled. Can anyone share their personal recent experiences with this model. Sincerest thx
Does this laptop have passthrough charging using USB C? Or it will only charge battery but laptop uses battery as supply still (will degrade battery overtime)
Wow 😮 epic fail in the “Creator” laptop with no SD-Card reader and lack of USB-A ports 👎👎. The rest of the laptop was vg. Rear side ports would definitely be much better too!!!
Just bought this from newegg with it on sale then a promo code, letting me grab it for 1,199 bucks, specs seem nice all except for the refresh rate could of just been 144, but can't win them all
Honestly same, like get a usbc hub with 4 usb slots for like 30 and your golden, it comes with a hub for your Lan and hdmi anyways, the pros far outweigh the cons...for 1300$, a steal tbh, also no fan issues atm considering I just got one as well
1 week old Aero 16xe4 / i7-12700H doesn't lasts more than one hour battery life and gets super hot within 10 minutes of usage. Should I return the laptop? Can anyone please help me here?
Was between getting this laptop (but XE4 version, 12700h / 3070 ti 130w / ddr4) or legion 5 pro with 6800H /3070 TI 150W / DDR5, both had same promo price on Ebay $1400 (Before customs/shipping), I went for 6800H. What do you say? I expect the legion arrive in like 2 weeks... Also, this gigabyte I think 130w is kinda limited? what is timespy score in FHD benchmark guys on this gigabyte?
I just purchased the XE5 version (DDR5 is the only difference I think) and I'm pretty disappointed with the TimeSpy scores. It was 6500 on first run which barely beat out my old system. Not sure what was going on, but after reboot it gave me 9500. Much better, but this card should be scoring around 11.5k.
