@@Moe32244 I'm still in awe with this monitor after all this time! I must've won the lottery because I've had no issues whatsoever and no dead pixel on the whole panel so far. 3D CAD work is so much easier on a monitor this size and I'm happy I didn't succumb to the temptation of buying a curved one for gaming because even in games, at the right distance, it's truly amazing! I think you can get $50 CAD off Newegg right now, which is always appreciated. My only gripe is with games that doesn't support the ultra wide format (cough ... Elden Ring cough ...).

Great review. I bought the M34WQ approx. 4 weeks ago and am happy with it so far. I use it mostly for content consumption, light gaming and using the KVM to switch between my gaming PC and work laptop. Only issue I have is that the KVM loses the USB connection randonly every once in a while, leading to you sitting in an FPS shooter without sound or control for 5-8 seconds. The switching between the devices could be faster also (USB). The lack of curve is only a small issue when I want to read small text in the corner edges. Speakers are surprisingly good (for a monitor). The OSD and startup of the monitor is faster and more responsive than my ASUS gaming monitor, that's nice to have. I think considering price and availability here in europe, the monitor is a good value option if you can't or won't go for the more higher end options like the Samsung Neo G9 and similar type displays.

Thanks for your efforts, really appreciate the time and attention to detail as usual. HU has been my go to place for monitor reviews, but I feel that, in addition to the in-depth technical data, it would be good to get an opinion on the real world performance, ie how much of the slow response time / overshoot / ghosting etc can you actually see when gaming at say 60, 120 and 144Hz. From a personal perspective, I've been getting really bogged down by the results in the tables and graphs, trying to compare panels in your league table, but find myself wondering, how much of this is actually noticeable when you're gaming.

Color accuracy is something you can safely ignore. It should be accurate enough not to look weird.
@josipreponj1928
@josipreponj1928 2 года назад
Big part of it is personal preference. Most people don't like overshoot, but some don't mind it and prefer slightly snappier motion. It can also depend on what type of player are you, or how your eyes perceive the moving image - tracking eyes, fixed gaze, adjustable, mix. I would suggest Hardware Unboxed to cover full vrr range in their ufo pursuit shots (e.g. 60-120-240Hz/fps) so that people who are not familiar with all the data get an idea how it looks like in real life. Without a 2-3 proper reference images given numbers loose their meaning or impression. Seems like people prefer more ufo shots over numbers anyways. This might be a big issue - how many people do really use it, do they skip it out of not understanding it? Good thing is HUB switched their testing method to '3% gamma corrected' which is much more eye perception friendly compared to traditional '10% linear'.
@Elementral
@Elementral 2 года назад
Good review, as usual! However, does the monitor support DCC/CI fully? For example, LG monitors, although very good, are notoriously bad with the full DCC/CI spec compliance. I think a lot of people would appreciate it if you put a small section in monitor reviews with DCC/CI testing, so companies like LG are scrutinized when doing shady stuff, which is currently not being checked by any monitor reviewers I have seen. Keep up the good work!
@josipreponj1928
@josipreponj1928 2 года назад
I also find annoying how some monitors are very slow to boot up, with unnecessary boot logos... monitors become bottleneck for OS boot times. I've never seen reviewers testing something like this. There are bunch more stuff.
@Elementral
@Elementral 2 года назад
@@rawdez_ In my specific use case, I just wanted to be able to switch display inputs without using the flimsy joystick (using software). For this to happen, you need the monitor to properly support this in hardware and its part of the DCC/CI support. So in essence they have "some" support for DCC/CI (like brightness, gamma, color adjustments etc) but not full coverage. I have read for many more user specific use cases with other parts of the DCC/CI spec, which I cannot remember exactly, but you get the point. The most annoying thing is not the support itself, but that there is absolutely NO information about this anywhere (regardless of manufacturer), so you can make an educated purchase decision. Reviewers also don't cover this topic at all.
@Elementral
@Elementral 2 года назад
@@josipreponj1928 I absolutely agree on this as well. Although I can give manufacturers "some" slack here, as the matrix controllers or the matrix itself (based on monitor type) could require some auto start up calibration or warm-up like period. But again, I do agree that its not even being tested anywhere at the moment, so consumers can make an educated decision regarding this.

@@CosmicApe The math has been done and it’s mathematically proven that curved does fill out your natural field of view better than flat panels. However, that’s only assuming you sit at a specific distance. So it’s not a gimmick per se, but it’s still not worth making a fuss about in my eyes. The best way imo, is just to sit further and use a flat screen. Your eyes will thank you as well.

One thing I would like to know when you review newer screen sizes, is how they compare to the old standard sizes. For example, is it like a 32” screen with extra width, or a 27” with extra width, or somewhere between. This would help understand the height of the screen and the pixel size. I’m sure I can work it out but it would be nice to have a quick mention of this in the review.

I got mine yesterday and have to report that this is a huge downgrade for productivity usage compared to my old Dell P3421W. The coating on this panel is just terrible. Bright content like web pages looks grainy due to that coating. And the colors shift quite a bit in the corners from normal viewing distances due to the missing curve. I honestly prefer to keep gaming at 60Hz on my old monitor rather than working for 8 hours per day on this panel.

In theory it should have less overshoot than with adaptive sync enabled. Same amount as @max refresh to be exact. I own one of these, I bought it a couple months ago because my old monitor was failing, and it's a decent stopgap until cheap 42" QD-OLEDs come out. A couple of things that I've noticed about mine that this review didn't mention: 1: The LED light on the bezel is obnoxiously bright. I ended up taping over it on mine to solve this problem. 2: It was very picky about my DP cable, only one of them (the shortest one) didn't result in random disconnects, but it's also possible this was the fault of my cables and not the electronics in the monitor. 3: There is a several seconds delay when switching video modes, where it blacks out the screen. When it's switched, it shows a small window in the middle of the screen with the resolution listed. This goes away after a few seconds. Overall, quality of the screen has been good, and well worth the $500 I paid. It's not a top-tier screen, but I didn't pay for one either, and I bought it with zero HDR expectations. I'm content, for now, though I'm not liking ultrawide as much as I thought I would when I ordered it. It'll do fine until my next upgrade.

If this had been available when I was in the market for a new monitor it would have been a strong contender, that KVM and the higher refresh rate would have easily been worth the extra ~$200CAD to me between what I paid for the monitor in front of me now vs what I see this one's currently selling for around here (a bit over $700CAD).

Hello brother. Amazing review. But can you please show us what it looks like to play PS5 games on this monitor? And when our GPU can't handle that resolution if we set the ratio 16:9 and downscale the resolution to 1440p 2k. will it looks like a native 2k 1440p 27-inch monitor or blur? Or looks bad? Hope you see this comment. This kind of video and review is rare. Hope you make one.

I've been using the Acer Predator X34p for a while now for gaming a productivity, and I've not once felt like the curve was off-putting while editing video or images. Granted, it's a pretty slight curve. I could see how a 1000R curve might be not so great for productivity.
@CosmicApe
@CosmicApe 2 года назад
I'm not sure how people don't notice it. I tested an LG 38GN950 that has only a 2300R curve and I thought it was very noticeable in how it distorted straight lines. Maybe it was more obvious on the larger 38" screen? But things on the left and right side almost looked like they were angled upwards, and any long straight line that ran across the middle looked like it had a noticeable bowing effect to it.

Thank you for the review. HUB Essentials Checklist is a great feature! In the wake of recent HDMI 2.1 BS..., would you kindly add to the HUB Essentials Checklist HDMI 2.1 bandwidth for each product, so that we know what kind of signal could be pushed out of/into devices? Currently, there are four HDMI 2.1 chips on the market - 24 Gbps, 32 Gbps, 40 Gbps and 48 Gbps. Different companies install one of those four chips.

Well! Definitely thank you, Tim, for this great review! I like this for using Adobe Illustrator, since I have another, smaller monitor to my right (where all the toolboxes go). Be nice to have some extra real-estate! X-Plane 11 will benefit, too! I could sit slightly to the left, and have Avitab and the takeoff checklists over toward the right. I going to think about this one! A bit concerned about the 'locked' white-balance, though. Hmmm

If I could make a review recommendation, the MSI MAG301RF is a UW 2560x1080 200Hz IPS 30" monitor and seems to be the only IPS monitor in its class that gets up to 200Hz.

Just a bit of some feedback if they conform with the HDR 400 spec? Is it right to say it's fake hdr? I think saying something alone the lines of "they meet the HDR 400 spec, but we don't consider that to be adequate to consume hdr content because professionals use the hdr 1000 standard as a minimum" is more accurate. I wouldn't blame monitor manufacturers for a shitty standard that doesn't reflect what content creators use I'd fault the governing body..

The LG OLED Should be about $1000 for the 42" version, or so we estimate. Crazy to think that the best high end 4K display for a PC is a TV and not a monitor. There needs to be more choices in the monitor market like 38" and more sane options for other 43" monitors. LG will nail this high end PC market for the enthusiast and tech savvy users.

Very nice, thank you for this review! Very interested in this one. Gigabyte's M series continues to be expanded into more decent offerings. Question: Some have reported a somewhat hazy coating on this one, which is less clear than is the norm these days. Can you confirm this? Very nice job on the whole, always happy to watch.

There is the Acer Nitro xv340ckp 34 inch which runs at 1440p and 144hz and has a ultrawide form factor while being a flat panel It also doesn't cost much either i recently picked one up NEW for 380$ which imo was a really good deal for it Comes with a USB hub behind it and a reasonable amount of input ports HDMI ports are 2.0 but at this price its probably not a concern as you can just use displayport
