Gigantic: A Beautiful Failure | The MOBA That Never Made It 

wow i can't believe Gearbox decided to revive gigantic after watching my dinky video! jokes aside, I'm rightfully pissing and shitting at the potential revival of one of my favorite games. (a game dev studio called Gearbox just did an invite-only Gigantic playtest weekend - it was kind of out of nowhere - but there's not really a reason they'd do this unless they were trying to bring the game back) The only reservation i have is that I haven't heard anything about the ex-Motiga employees being involved in the relaunch yet - and I would really want them to be a part of it since this game is their passion project. I also just wanna give a big thank you to everyone who watched this - I'm still in the process of figuring out my direction as a Contenter, but I'm very proud of this video in particular, so I'm glad people are enjoying it. Manifesting a huge success for the relaunch of Gigantic! 🥳

Update: As of Feb 16, you can suddenly update the game to the "Rampage Edition". Yeah, this game actually be coming back.

Overwatch's release was truly a curse upon the gaming world forever. It paved over so many other interesting games and forever shaped multiplayer games going forward (not in a good way). I'll never forgive it for killing games like Gigantic and Battleborne.

Analyzing why games succeed or fail is fascinating. There many factors that go into it that don't involve quality or originality.

Every now and then I go down a gigantic rabbit hole, this video helps a bit to fill that longing. It was disheartening when I heard the game shut down and I wish I could go back in time to just play it again. If the game were to make a return or even revamped in today's time it would bring in old and new players from other games. Gigantic was that breath of fresh air from other games. Now I find myself wishing it could replace a game like overwatch or paladins

This is an incredible video. More people deserve to see this. Thank you for bringing some light to a game that couldn't make it.

I never thought about the intentions behind Imani's hit box! You talked about the developers passion and the soul in this game. I've never played a game where is was so blatantly obvious that the team working on it had a culture of passion and care behind their game. Gigantic's characters have my favorite animations in any game. Griselma wouldn't exist in any other game and if she did I wouldn't ever play a character like her. In Gigantic Griselma is an old lady who is supposed to have the same sprint speed as an assassin frog or a fleet footed deer fox thing. How does Gigantic pull this off? By having her turn her hand staff upside down and letting the hand crawl on the ground for her! It's one of those things that I can't explain how fun it is to play and you'd have to try it for yourself. Every character has a memorable and instantly recognizable silhouette. I'll stop gushing over the incredible work done but it breaks my heart that Microsoft never put this on gamepass. If gamepass was a thing 5 years ago then we might be living in a world where Gigantic could have been propped up long enough to grow into a fully supported game with a dedicated fan base.

i was a mozu main, get that ramp up in dmg aftar surprise jumping on ppl is so fun. gigantic is the only moba game ive played. i hope one day it can be revived. also team snake, "so much... power? time to attack." it always sounded like he was questioning it, that how it sounded to me and my brothers. ...oh, it is coming back. pls stay for good.

Honestly glad i got to play this game in my childhood, the characters are really cool, the world is amazing and the gameplay i really like. the only regret i have is not playing this game more before it got shut down.

Gigantic's story is twice as sad when you realize it was made by a lot of people who worked on Dawngate before EA shuttered once of the best games & studio they ever had.

I never heard of this game I wish I had

I didn’t play a ton but one of my best plays was, I was getting chased by 2 enemies as Sven. I ran around a corner near the edge of the map and threw my bounce potion down. Enemies came around the corner and got bounced off the map to their deaths ha. The game was so fun but by the time I got into it, it was pretty dead.

Such a shame that it didn't at least stay as a offline singleplayer (vs bots) game... I'd gladly just spam simple games against basic bots. Regarding the low amount of players, I mean, it was ultimately a niche release with little marketing that came out after Overwatch. Plebs didn't know about it or if they saw it they thought it was an OW "clone". Oh, RIP Dawngate as well.

I never heard of this game - definitely has Battleborn vibes - wish I got to play it. Multiplayer games (especially F2P) need a 'critical mass' of players - which means they often need a big marketing to get people into game. Most multiplayer games have that big spike in players at launch, and trail off - creating further peaks with updates is often the goal. But Overwatch killed Battleborn too. It's that annoying thing of more players = even more players, 100% agree with that analysis.

Evolve, lol Neat concept, but that's all it was. The most bare bones multiplayer game I can remember ever releasing, with absurdly priced DLC/ micro transactions. Then they went on to release Back4Blood years later 😂

XDefiant is backed by ubisoft so maybe it will succeed but Ubisoft tried to break into the battleroyale genre with Hyper Scape and already gave up and shut those servers down.

This game honestly felt like it got purposfully sabotaged cause noway things fucked up as bad manage wise as they did if a human being handled it :( I always said that it somehow reminds me of windwakers art style and i miss it :(

Gigantic was the only MOBA I was ever interested in playing and it shut down before release... Now might be coming back though, we'll see. Hawken - shut down. Atlas Reactor - shut down. Overwatch - became shit. ArcheBlade - abandoned by devs and mostly dead. Crucible - cancelled. Blacklight Retribution - became shit. Seems like any multiplayer game I have interest in either dies or goes to shit, this is some kind of a curse...

About Grizelda and Uncle Sven Their designs are bad because young people (the target demographic of the game) don't want to play as old people. It tries too hard to be unique and original and ends up being unappealing. I have a long list of games that move away from "young, pretty and fit" and they all flopped.

You keep saying how original it is but the visual style and the characters design all feel generic in a way, can't say I dig it, might be the graphic style or something
