@@truefunksoul8638 Hi, Thank you for your reply and for taking the time to attempt to correct all the apparent mistakes. Your words have been taken into consideration. This track listing has been copied and pasted from the original release of this album, which is certainly not widely available for download - read the description for more information on the availability of this album. The only title I changed myself was "Vidgolia (Deaf, Dumb & Blind)". If you look at the original LP, 'Bridges', from where this song comes, you will find that the name is spelled "Vildgolia", with the first "l" included. It appears to be a common mistake so I thought I'd clear it up. I would typically edit the other song names to pertain to their original titles but as they were intentionally printed this way, I will leave it as they are. Hope you're doing well, Michael
If you look at the original vinyl copies of the album Vildgolia was misspelt as Vidgolia on the labels, then that error carried over to various CD reissues, but leaving a word out of the title of 'We Almost Lost Detroit' because some random live release got it wrong 40 years later is absurd :/ You thought you would clear up a common mistake while perpetuating an uncommon mistake? Make it make sense.
Alright, I'm betting on this. Some brother must've been able to time travel and recorded this GIl Scott-Heron concert, because this sound quality is out of this world compared to other live albums. I salute you for preserving this sound!
Yeah it's quite good hey! I recently listened to his live album "Tour de Force", as it's called on Spotify (it has been released under other names, I believe), and the sound quality is also really good.
God Bless you Fannie Lou Hamer and Gil Scott-Heron,thank you Gil for the respect given to Our Beloved Fannie Lou Hamer,my heart gets excited just hearing Fannie Lou's name, she is my hero,I cry that I never was her friend,I wish I could have been by her side,I wish she could have hugged me.My own mother and father were kind and caring,I'm am humbled by the strength and courage of Fannie Lou.No one in the history of this earth 🌎 could match her spirit, her quest for human rights.Fannie Lou must have been rewarded the hands of God the moment she was released from this prison planet.Just now in this very moment I have received the secret of her life ,she was filled with a heavenly spirit and feared no man or woman. That is the gift of Fannie Lou Hamer, watch over me too Fannie Lou, I'll await that moment I will be in your presence.
I was there! It was the summer after my 'junior year abroad,' My best friend and I hitchhiked along the Riviera to get to what was being billed as the French version of Woodstock. The 50 or so Black folks in the crowd of several thousand converged on the left side of the stage when Gil Scott heron came on, and we jammed, indeed! My friend and I even got to meet the band after their set! Years later when I heard this song, it made me smile, knowing that I helped to inspire this song.
Beautiful story and a beautiful experience! I love comments like this....it continues to give life to the music and it can heal people. Thank you and GSH and the band!
I've known the studio version of the song for over 30 years. Listening to this live recording for the first time today with Gil's spoken intro added context that I've never known before, and this comment added another layer of awesomeness. Thanks.
Brother 💪 THIS IS AWESOME! 👌 👍 ✌️ 👊 👏🙏😎 From the bottom of my heart 🖤 Thank You having this on your channel 🎹🎵🎺🎷🎶🥁🎸🎤🎼 The Late Great 👇 👉 Gil Scott-Heron There will never be another 🙏🎤🎶👊 Amen! 😇
@@Michael69 You can hear a bit of Stevie Wonder in this, but a great jam. We were spoilt in the 70's-so many fantastic records from all directions- and some of us didn't even know it. hahha
@@keddw Well as you probably already know, Gil was a great fan of and also great friends with Stevie, so that is probably why the influence shows here.
GREAT GIG, great sound quality, everything s great except the fact he s dead (saw several RIPs). Didn t know; haven t been very active in ages, gilwise, but have 11 of his most essential lps incl the live double. The Strata East lbl is pickin up steam, collectorwise, so this coming WINTER IN AMARUCA will be a slightly hotter 1 ...(FUCK THOSE ADS; a crime agai st manNOTSOkind.) !!!

Good question. I really don't know. There's not a great deal of information about this show other than that it was recorded at The Bottom Line on the 20th August, 1977. I have seen it said that Brian Jackson was there but these aren't credible sources (and I've not listened to this album since I uploaded it to really make my judgement as to whether or not he was there).
@@Michael69 Thanks. He always had such tight bands, but I was disappointed. After living abroad I went to see him towards the end he didn't even have a drummer. I couldn't believe it. I know he was a great poet, but it was that funky band I always looked forward to seeing!
@@TheEddieLandsberg Yeah I can imagine that would be disappointing. Kinda like going to see Paul McCartney and he doesn't play one Beatles song or seeing Bob Dylan and he doesn't play Blowin' in the Wind (or at least in the same arrangement as he originally produced it). I would have loved to have seen Gil live but unfortunately only discovered him months after his passing.
@@Michael69 Exactly... Thank God for PBS airing that Black Wax concern video! If you like Gil I highly recommend checking out OSCAR BROWN JR's MOVIN ON and the LAST POETS/Delights of the Garden (with Bernard Purdie on drums!)
Get premium, it's a few dollars a month, and NO ADS!!! Like RU-vid used to be. Best money I have spent on a streamer. Makes the experience SOOOO much better.
They ve ALL been counterhacked by the forum, tried a 10 or so, no use. In principle, wont pay a penny to get premium. I d rather suffer. Some channels force to erase 30 ads if you try to wipe em without submitting oneself to the whole length of ad. MIND RAPE. Period. And extortion.
