Been an admirer and follower for years .... we need someone to follow on from him soon. as there seems to be so little honesty and integrity like Gill's now .... RIP Gill , I wept when I heard of your passing
Never heard this one. Gils was way ahead of his time in thinking. He went through it all, drugs, poverty, and racism but keep his vision and stayed true to himself.
And now once again, proving how timeless this message is. Aww man, I really love listening to him. Wish I had had ty he chance to see in person. Much love
Just as relevant in 2024 - all the college students in solidarity with Palestine and hundreds of people including senior citizens risking their lives to sail from Istanbul on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla with tons of food and medical supplies tomorrow.
I met gil scot heron and attended three of he's shows . I was lucky to have met him, listening he's music makes me happy,l miss him still. Taj luchelleadams.
Saw him and the brothers in Detroit and at MSU back in the day. His gift of holding his audience spellbound as he wove his oratory magic between major and minor chord progressions, while African drums and shekere, pulsate the staccatoed rhythms, was indeed mesmerizing. Rest in peace man. The demons you fought didn't win. Your legacy still lives on.
Miss you bro...listening your tunes here in 2020... still remember you came to Badalona ( Barcelona Spain ) it was a great show there.. sometimes i try to sing your tunes, peace go with you Gil..wherever you go...great poet..PEACE.. LOVE
June 12th 2024 I just want to personally mark this day when I 1st heard about this man Gil Scott, coinciding with the events of today in my life and a discussion I was having with a great friend and artist about working within.Never have I ever felt more determined to accomplish on the gifts the cosmos gave me so in closing I'd like to ask who happens to know a good and precise tarot reader?I need to know when I need to bet the lotto or try my luck nje...bathi ngine windfall mtase🤣
Im lying here at home looking at Gil-Scott Heron dvd and he's playing this tune. Nice steppin record. I can see myself and partner Willie J. putting it down. Smooth. E.C./W.J.
The Urban Troubadour, whose golden throated chorus and verse, blended well with laser guided socio-political monologs, and etched an indelible message on the conscious of the planet. Rest in peace my brother...the drum still beats.🪘
Back when Eisenhower was the President Golf courses was where most of his time was spent. So I never paid much attention to what the President said Because in general, I believed the General was politically dead, But he always seemed to know how muscles were going to be flexed He kept mumbling something about a military-industrial complex. The military and monetary The military and monetary The military and monetary The military and the monetary Get together whenever they think it's necessary They have turned our brothers and sisters into mercenaries, They are turning the planet into a cemetary. The military and the monetary Use the media as intermediaries. They are determined to keep the citizens secondary They make so many decisions that seem arbitrary. We've been standing behind the 'Commander-in-Chief' Who was under a spotlight, shaking like a leaf Because the ship of state had landed on an economic reef So we knew he'd be bringing us messages of grief. The military and monetary Were 'Shielded' by January and went 'Storming' into February. They brought us pot-bellied Generals as luminaries. Two weeks before I hadn't heard of the sons of Bitches And then all of a sudden they were legendary. They took the honor from the honorary They took the dignity from the dignitaries They took the secrets from the secretaries But they left the 'bitch' in 'obituary' Yeah, they had some 'smart bombs' But they had some dumb ones as well They scared the hell out of CNN in that Baghdad hotel. The military and the monetary The military and monetary The military and monetary Get together whenever they think it's necessary War in the desert sometimes sure could seem scary But they beamed out the war to all of their subsidiaries Tried making 'so damn insane' (Saddam Hussein) a worthy adversary Keeping all of the citizens secondary Scaring old folks into coronaries Making us all wonder if all of this was really, truly necessary. We've got to work for peace. We've got to work for peace. If we all believed in peace we could have peace. The only thing wrong with peace is that You can't make no money from it. The military and the monetary Get together whenever they think it's necessary They have turned our brothers and sisters into mercenaries We are turning parts of the planet into a cemetary. We hounded the Ayatollah religiously, Bombed Libya and killed Qadafi's son hideously. We turned our back on our allies, the Panamanians Watched Ollie North selling guns to the Iranians Witnessed Gorbachev slaughtering Lithuanians So we better warn the Amish, they may bomb the Pennsylvanians. We've got to work for peace. Peace ain't coming this way. We've got to work for peace. Peace is not (merely) the absence of war It is the absence of the rumors of war and the threats of war And the preparation of war. Peace is not (merely) the absence of war We will have all touched the power of peace within ourselves. Because we will have all come to peace within ourselves. Peace ain't gonna be easy. Peace ain't gonna be free. We've got to work for peace.
This is great Marcos...would you please check my lyrics I have put up for Space Shuttle...its not the video lyrics I have posted them underneath like you have here. Your input would be most welcome. Thanks Warpedsmac.
Prince used the 'absence of war' line in his wonderful protest song Baltimore which he wrote in 2015 after the murder of Freddie Gray : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cieZB0Ab7xk.html
"They had some smart bombs / But they had some dumb ones as well / Scared the hell out of CNN in that Baghdad hotel." One of my favorite verses among so many.
sorry D.M. but I'm sure this isn't true. From an interview with Brian: Is that how you worked together from then on, with you giving him music to put words to? Pretty much. He would always ask me to tell him what I was feeling or thinking in respect to the piece I was presenting to him. Sometimes I’d have a bit of a lyric or a hook. At the very least, I would have to have an idea of what I was trying to say with the music. Whenever we wrote together, that had to be a part of it. Once I did that, he could just run with it. He was always dead on. He always understood exactly where I was coming from. It was a great feeling to write with somebody like that. It was like a Vulcan mind-meld almost. I'm off to see Brian Jackson tonight in Melbourne. V. excited
gil only lied to himself. But not to y'all. I love you always miss you baby my soulmate in life and the afterlife. xoxo you got freedom and you got peace. Finally.
@@williamhosana2691 He refused to admit that he had any problem with drugs in his later years, which is presumably what she means. This article is pretty stark: www.newyorker.com/magazine/2010/08/09/new-york-is-killing-me
We have to work a lot, dear Kendra: all around the world, dear comrade Gil... With that big blond piece of shit sitting at the White's house, twitting, acting like a big bambinone, talking idiot phrases and signing pieces of igienic paper every day... provocating an imminent war. If we don't stop him asap. Thank you Gil. For the strength, the vision, the energy, the knowledge, the soul: the intelligence. Grazie compagno Gil.
