I really enjoyed this session .... Gil Shaham masterfully was always positive and complimentary to the soloists while making suggestions on areas that could be improved. Congratulations to Dmitri Berlinsky and the Michigan State University College of Music for producing this fine masterclass series which I highly recommend it to all serious students and teachers of the violin!!! 🙂🎶🎻♥

Writing to thank Gil Shaham for recommending recording yourself!!! I am a beginner 2 years and maybe 2,500 hours of practice. I recorded myself practicing for the first time after this video playing Scene de Ballet which I have been working on for a month. I was shocked how awful I sounded. When I settled down, I realized my intonation was good, I had a nice vibrato. The problem was I didn't use enough bow, and didn't have enough flexibility in my right hand, so my bow changes were accented and crunchy. Working hard on my right hand and bow arm basics now using Schotten's video. The recorder is a great teacher.

So I dont know much classical music, but I know the first peace well. From listening to Chloe Chu perform it. So, that makes it even more impressive to me. She's only 14 and it sounds more like of what Gill is trying to convey. Also saying how hard some parts are. Crazy. Nice video I will be checking out more. thanks! more bow!

Me recording myself playing: Wow this sounds really bad, it must be because the violin doesn't record well on a webcam or phone, I'm sure it's not really that bad Me after watching all these recorded masterclasses: * *smashes violin* *
