The documentary on Gilbert’s life was surprisingly warm and made me see him in a different light. He seemed so happy with his life, wife And kids that I am glad to know he enjoyed his life RIP
He was so old school about the family too….always protected them, never mentioned them publicly. You’d only hear from/about his wife after the podcast started since she produced it. As much as everyone goofed on him about being stingy and weird he seemed like a very stand up dude.
It made me smile seeing his young ones and especially how "cheap" he was IRL. Free samples all the way baby! He is asking God for more mints, toothbrushes, and soap now!
Definitely old school, I would think he worried about his family having money when he was gone as opposed to blowing through it…which is not many people these days.
@@phillyphan1225 I feel you. I always thought of him doing it as sweet-funny. I have grandparents , aunts and uncles that were like that. Just showed you how REAL he was. the only fake thing he did was his voice and that was to make us all smile !
@@chrishenry8102 watch him on snl back in the day. His normal voice is deeper. Technically, yes, this is still him "acting". At the same time though, he has done his fake voice for so long that how he sounds in this podcast is as normal as it can be.
the “norm and Harvey Weinstein” story is hilarious. Apparently Harvey was holding court and had a bunch of people around him. At one point Harvey goes “I think Mathew Perry is a genius, what about you Norm?” And Norm goes in his legendary style “….is he really good at math or something?” From that day on apparently Harvey Weinstein hated Norm with a passion and that makes me like Norm that much more
@@cinnamonsinner4619 he’s basically saying he can’t be a genius in comedy (which Harvey was clearly referring to) so he must be “good at math or something” because it can’t be comedy
@@mexicanspec Wow. That's mind blowing. I knew he's been around for a while, but that sounds insanely long. I wonder how old he is then.. I was just thinking yesterday about how crazy it is that Willie Nelson was and adult and wrote the song "Crazy" that became a hit for Patsy Cline in 1960. Relatively speaking, Gottfried wasn't very far behind that. According to what you say.
Heartbroken. One of the true all time greats,.gone. He was sick during this appearance. Pure genius. Fearless and hilarious. His comedy assaulted you. Losing him and Norm so s close together is unbearable.
Though it might seem unbearable now, I'm sure that one day, through the healing sands of time, you'll be able to get over the trauma of two people you never met dying.
@@mp5249 Well look, Comedians are not known for their healthy lifestyles. A LOT of past drug use, awful road food, erratic sleep schedules, legendary amounts of drinking, questionable sexual escapades, money stress, etc. etc.
In the early 90s I saw Gilbert at a comedy club in New Jersey. 2nd or 3rd row. I never laughed so hard. He told the most vile stories, just layered one on top of the other. We’ll miss you so much Gilbert. The best.
After his small part in Beverly Hills Cop he was on Letterman and said, "they were looking for an obnoxious sounding Jewish person, and Dave, I think I pulled it off". Always have been a fan of Mr. Gottfried.
Sydney to Axel: "It's like, you'd be concentrating on one hand and the other... you'd be like, what's in that hand, you'd kind of forget about that hand. "😄 Gilbert was great as Bernstein.
Funny how people impact you. I felt loss when Judy Tenuta died. She wasn't a major player but she made me laugh, and she seemed like a genuinely good person.
no it wasn't but I'm not going to knock him either , he was different, but I could listen Gilbert all night before I could take 5 min of Andy dick, that guy has issues , he needs Xanax and Dr Phil in his life , hell I do to....
I like how joe is so patient with him. This is a slower paced show but joe is letting him take his time to remember the past. Kudos to you rogan. You are the man.
Yeah, the slowness is actually why I came to comments: to see how people reacted. I'm glad people actually appreciated Joe for his patience, and just treated Gilbert like any other guest. The variety of personalities is what makes the show special, and sometimes someone talk like an older fun uncle at the dinner table is nice.
Joe has the best interview/conversation skills of anyone that has a mainstream talk show, podcast or whatever interview isn't really the right word though he's genuinely interested in what his guests have to say he doesn't have a set of scripted questions and there are no fucks given about asking the tough questions he's in a very unique position and has brought together so many different kinds of people who would've never united otherwise his approach to everyday life and living in our country has become 100's of thousands of people's lighthouse for traversing through our complicated social, woke and, cancel cultures which at times seem to impose the same kind of oppression and moral shame that they themselves stand against...
about 10 years ago, after he was cancelled, he was performing at the Tacoma Comedy club. alone on a rainy weekday night I drove to see Gilbert in an empty club.... I shook his hand after the show, he is a sweet man that deserves our support.
@@michael567jober just guessing but maybe something to do with jokes he did on twitter about a tsunami in japan, which resulted him losing his contract with aflac
R.I.P. Gilbert Gottfried. In this appearance on "The Joe Rogan Show" podcast, Gottfried is speaking in the voice of the character he did all the years of his stand-up comedy career. Apparently his real voice was very soft-spoken. So sad that he died at just 67 years-old!😢
benn talking bout this past few days......very cool to her his voice and respect even more the voice he had all us think was ...when was just part of his classics acts.... RIP
@@fanbuoy9234 1000%. I think many people hiring the replacement do it plan to look for a sacrificial lamb. The replacement gets killed for not being as good, while the replacement’s replacement at least gets to be “well they’re at least better than the last bozo, which is an improvement”
I’ll be honest i grew up in the 90’s listening to his voice in most cartoons wondering who’s funny voice was that . Until as an adult I found out he’s a comedian . Gilbert is a legend
Born in 85. I was a bit older for those movies but my little sister had all of them. Lol I still remember the day I finally seen who was that voice…. And it was that video of ummm.. like “the dirtiest joke” (they have a name for it I forget) and seeing him be so raunchy I was like WHAT LOL
Every comedian who has left SNL all say they had a horrible experience on the show. The late great Norm MacDonald has great stories about his time at SNL. His battles with Chris Kattan are legendary.

There's only one Gilbert whether you liked him or hated him he was a unique talent that had is own style even if the joke was rotten he always managed to make us laugh. He will be missed. Rest in piece my friend.
Gilbert is the funniest comedian I ever saw in my life. I saw him years ago at a comedy club in NYC and I laughed so hard I stopped breathing. Same thing when I watch his rants at those roasts, his George Takei roast is killer
Best moment in the history of the Stern show was when they had the Westboro Baptist Church and Gilbert on. Westboro Baptist Church: Jews have a serious problem because they reject Christ. Gilbert: *MAY I JUST ADD THAT WE ALSO KILLED CHRIST*
@@ReetVeter2000 The romans didn't like the jews but they had been subjugated, and this Jesus fella was making the locals upset. They still worshipped Jupiter and Mars and such. @@dtuner9200 uhhh. Who are you listening to? Because most SNL talent describe it as a gladiator camp. Very adversarial and “toxic” That’s why many don’t last a year.
This almost sounds like Gilbert's answering machine voice!! Used to hear Stern play clips of Gilbert leaving messages as a " normal" guy! Man I'll miss your comedy Gilbert!!! Rip
I didn’t know Gilbert too well as a comedian because I grew up in the 2000s. He played the robo bird in cyber chase and his character always made me laugh and put me in a good mood. Such a talent at making people happy. Rest In Peace G man.
@@DChrlsThe bird’s name is Iago. That was the first role I heard by him when I was a little kid. Other roles he played were Mr. Mxyzptlk, Dr. Bender, and Mr. Peabody.
This is crazy, Gilbert being himself. Gilbert on Howard, would go off the chain and couldn't be contained. The best of Howard was Gilbert doing his impressions for beattle juice.
For me the funniest thing ever was Gilbert on Howard dressed as Dracula and going out on the street to interview random people doing an over the top Bela Lugosi impression .
@@kevinb7126 THIS!! Or when they’d go to the news and Gilbert would shut the show down with the Jewish Dracula impressions. He slayed them all, Robin couldn’t even read two words and Gilbert would have Stern losing his mind!!! Gold!

@@kevinguy1499 that wasn't a dig at Gilbert, he's great.... I'm saying if watching your favorite comedian was the best thirty minutes of your life, you need to build some better memories
That era was great. Howard and other shock jocks could get away with saying all kinds of stuff, because the listeners were in on the humor. What a time to be alive and lived through that era
I just made a comment about that and I feel like he's underrated in the shitty thing is is that people will recognize how good and how talented he is when he's gone just like Norm McDonald
@@Ulexcool he exclusively does cameos for $8 and juggalo festival appearances; typically not the mark of a comedic genius. Oh and Joe Rogan is a douche.
He's right of course. I remember as a kid watching Saturday night live with a friend of mine and we couldn't believe when they announced the cast change from the originals. We honestly thought it was a bit and they were joking. But some of those unknowns they brought out on stage that night including Eddie Murphy went on to be the best cast they ever had on SNL.
Loved watching the entire podcast and enjoyed every minute. Me and Gilbert are the same age and he looks great! He's as clever as ever with fun stories to share.
Gilbert is one of my all time favorites. His Dirty Jokes act was awesome as well as his roasts and Stem Show stuff. His calls with the German woman were hilarious.
What about the discussion with the Westborough Baptist church.. Church: We have a problem with the Jews they reject Christ Gilbert: Don't forget we also killed him
Watched Gilbert's live comedy 8 years ago in West Palm Beach. I laughed so hard I cried. Incredibly funny! So fortunate to have watched this legend in person.
