I was privileged to see his Brisbane 50 yr Tour here at Qpac. Took all this time for a lady from Cleveland Ohio to see this beautiful man. Not many artist can you close your eyes and here the same voice you remember as in your youth. Thank you Gilbert O’Sulkivan very much 🌻
Great interview. I have thought for the past 50 years that our top two songwriters have been McCartney and Gilbert. To me, Penny Lane and Alone Again (Naturally) are on a par. I would love to hear that Gilbert and McCartney had written something together. It would have to be brilliant !!
Nice to know Raymond's still out there walking this Earth. Back in the mid-90s, I'd play his LP for anybody that would listen when it wasn't cool to do so. I would pick up every used copy I found at Goodwill or Salvation Army just to give them to people. I turned as many onto his music as I could. A favorite amongst my friends was "Matrimony." Yeah. Good stuff. Love this dude. (HC Metal punker here... but "hurt is hurt." We all understand the pain.) Forget the sweater. "Irish Lad" Gilbert is classic Gilbert. We didn't get that one in the US. I wish we had.
Who can not recall watching Ed Sullivan Show on a Sunday night and his introduction of a young, very interesting looking Gilbert O'Sullivan.... and Wow how he pulled us into his music that was unique and memorable. So great to hear his latest songs which continue to amaze with lyrics that you need and want to hear clearly.
I had the pleasure of attending Gilbert's concert on 11th May 2022, with guitarist Bill Shanley, and can confirm that he hasn't lost his touch. The new album, Driven, is released in July. ♥☺♥☺
Is great for me so far , listening Mr Gilbert, Iam from Chile, and 60 y.o, of course Gilbert songs, remain me when my fathers used try to sing in English....his songs....oh...this year's ...thanks Mr Gilbert ..God bless you !!
OMG Uncle Ray is still around! You go .. ^88! I've heard the "duo" act though from last year, and it seems kinda weak, esp. w/o bass or drums. Surprised Gilbert couldn't find some musicians here in the U.S. that would be glad to sit in (@ no or little $$ charge) with him when performing on his tour, due to his fame.
He was stubborn hanging onto that Peaky Blinders look. Everyone except him loathed it. He made less eye contact using it so somewhere he knew it wasn't wanted, even if only subliminally. The reason he is so good is his sincerity. Music must be sincere. He wins hands down.
