HI KEN, your Gillette Tech in this particular video is a 1977 2nd Qtr, due to the handle styling, AND there is no blade holding bar on the underside of the top plate, AND this Tech was made in England, all characteristics of the late 70's British-produced Techs. I myself own a 1978 Y-3 British-made Tech. British production of the Tech ended in 1979, while US production of the Tech ended in 1973. I enjoy your Videos, take care,..............BOB

Hey, Ken. This razor is called Gillette Sportsman. They were produced and sold in England under this name. The razor was vastly manufactured in the 1960's. I have the same razor, and it comes in a sealed plastic/paper packaging featuring two football (soccer) players in the heat of the game and 1 super silver blade. They were also made in Canada where the were branded simply Gillette Tech. They cost around 69c. The British origin of your razor officially makes it Gillette Sportsman. Take care.
Great shave. Like I've said in the past I'm a big fan of the vintages. A ball end tech is my daily driver. Thanks for mentioning the fires. I lived and worked on the Paradise/Chico area from the mid 70s until the mid 90s before we moved to NOLA. So many friends lost their homes in Paradise. So many beautiful places destroyed.
I found the same kind of razor in an antique shop. The date code is K4, which seems to be a 1965 version. I love the look of the diamond knurling on the handle. I had my first shave with it and it was amazing.
Great shave Ken. Probably a 77 Tech being English w/ aluminum handle. Good cream the Palmolive, works great. Safari is fantastic, too bad they retired the aftershave. Nice video again. Enjoy!
Hi Ken- Nice Saturday shave; thank you! I have a Gillette Tech Fat Handle from Razor Emporium and it always does a nice job. It’s a mild enough razor that I can use very sharp blades like the Kai and Feather with little to no problems at all. I hope the party was fun. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
Great shave. The wife got me a Gillette Tech from Razor Emporium after I saw you shave with one months ago. I had to have one. They’re great razors. I’ve tried multiple blades in them and have never had a bad shave. As you stated everyone should have one in their collection.

Anthony, I think that is incorrect. Mr. Razor shows Techs up to '79 www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/Tech/Tech.htm Also, if I'm not mistaken, that is an aluminum handle. Tech handles were steel up till the early or mid '60s. The knurling is different. So, I believe that is a 70's tech.
@@toddmoore9841 You may be correct. My data shows that the tech razor ended in the US in 1973 but I just realized that Ken is showing he is using a British tech razor so it very well might be a 1970's tech.

I can't say about your razer, but based on the cap design and knurling, I am convinced that Ken's Tech is from the 70's.

I find it cool you used safari. I honestly just bought a safari set after shave/cologne in the croc skin box on eBay for 60$ unused 2 days ago. Can’t wait to get it in and try it out and join that elite safari club!!
the first film I saw from bond was Dr No with ursula andress and the lotus sportscar I believe it was, but the way I was fan of Bond was reading his books ( in dutch ), when I lived in Belgium, very nice histories from a english spy, I believe the creator mr Fleming was working for the english secret department , unbelievable that the old gillette razors still are doing great, we cannot buy the palmolive stick here in Mexico , so I should go to the states to obtain it , I suppose it has the same scent as a normal palmolive body soap, greetings robert
I paid 14 Euro (16 US Dollar) included shipping and the original box. The box is a bit damaged... Razor is in great condition. Sometimes you have to be lucky 😁 Ah, mine is German made. Which is great as i am German 😁
12.00 I should have picked it up but I was unsure cause of the plastic handle??? Did some research when I got home and believe it was from the late 50s. But I did pick up a Gem Featherweight 10.00 and it is in pristine shape.
Only did half face with shavette, loaded with feather blade. It was a new blade but still to dull for my beard so I had to change to my Mercur 39C slanted. That is the best razor yet it for me. But the shavette was not difficult to shave with, for someone with not so tough beard it should work fine.
I have a couple of Techs and you're right, they are excellent razors. They are not my favorite Gillette model though as I prefer the twist to opens from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Oh, and you should try the Treet carbon steel blades if you haven't tried them.
Well been using straight razors last year. I have a dovo astrale and another from Germany. Have to say got my first db razor 3 months ago and hooked. Obviously being a new blade most shave it shaved better ( in my opinion). I still find the cut throat more of an event :-) usually accompanied with a small scotch :-). Well after watching yall have all the fun I order my Futur 3 days ago and got try try it this afternoon. Yep. That’ll do it alright. :-)))))). I used it with Fine Snake bite. Woooowwssers it was still tingle and hour later hahaha. Really enjoying your channel. My good Lady and I put you on the 50 inch tv and watch your vids. Lol. You mentioned you always liked the BIG SCREEN. And now your on it :-))). Looking forward to catching up on your older vids and look forward to seeing new stuff. Keep up the good work. I just bought a Gillette Tech that looks identical to yours (top cap design and handle), but no date code (therefore, pre 1951). Based on that, suspect yours is 1952.
? for ken and viewers , I live in farmland Ohio and our brick and mortar stores dont carry pre shave but they all carry beard oils balms so the ? is can beard oils be used as pre shave, ingredients seem similar. tyvm all and sry ken for so many questions.
Yes and no, it can be used for that but most beard oils aren't thick/ viscous enough to give that protection needed. Stirling Soap Co. and The Art of Shaving NY both offer a nice thick oil you can order online. I personally don't like pre-shave oil, they don't work very well and there messy. I've tried 4 different brands and they all performed about the same, but that's just my humble opinion. I found an activated charcoal pre-shave soap called the CUBE by Phoenix artisan accoutrements that works fantastically and can also be ordered online. I hope that helps :)

Great video! I think you should get your eye checked by the way. I've watched some of your older videos and I noticed that the mark on your lower eyelid increased in size. It's likely that it isn't anything serious, but just to be on the safe side you might wanna get it checked.

I am not sure if it's "ironic" or "karmic" that you managed to get cut with a Tech on the very last pass...That said this is "coincidence" I just purchased a Gillette Fat Handle Tech within the past couple of weeks... ;-)
