At 2:35 you were correct the first time when pointing out your neck pickup. I know I'm being knit-picky, but thought I'd bring it up before I said thank you Mike, good info to know. Great video.

LOL, yeah sometimes my mouth runs on with out my brain. Seen the trem cut out and thought I was pointing to the wrong side. Thanks for the comment.

I'm wanting to do this mod on my old mahogany ibanez sa 160 SSH I plan on swapping the pick ups for a set off one of Gilmour straps as well at some point. Thank you for making the video was very helpful in understanding how to accomplish this

I liked the switch because I don't like push-pull switches. But I should've gone with a push - push control knob or a button. That's the best solution in my opinion.

Going to try this on one of my SX guitars. BTW: Drill won't wander if you use a brad-point bit rather than the twist bit you used..

Thanks for the tip. I'm just putting together a work shop in the barn and collecting tools. Guess those will be added to my list. You can use a push-pull pot ofcourse. I think I will locate a little push button and loose the switch..
@briw4647
@briw4647 5 лет назад
I prefer a push pull pot instead of the micro toggle. I didnt need to drill a hole in the scratchplate and you cant tell you've done the mod either, but u get the same effect.

It's funny the differences in people. Ya see,I actually dig the way the mini tog looks and feels,I like for it to look modded...I dont know why though,that's just me I guess,lol!

@@TheGospelGuitarist could use a push push pot too. They are quite good , 1 push to disengage push again to lock it back

@TheGospelGuitarist
@TheGospelGuitarist Год назад
You should! But remember you can do it in other ways like using a push pull pot or a push push switch. That way you don't have to make a hole in the pickguard. 50 years ago everything was switches and I'm kinda old school.

I want to do this, but connect the mini toggle to the middle pickup. Swap the 5 way switch for a 3 way so I never accidentally find myself in position 2 or 4, or accidental move too far when I try to find position 2 and 4 because a 3 way locks into its positions better than a 5 way. You can still get the outside 2 by default with the middle pickup switched off and then toggle the middle one on and get all 3
@TheGospelGuitarist
@TheGospelGuitarist Год назад
I'm not a huge fan of the 5 way either. Position fussing all the time. Sounds like a good way to deal with it. Thanks for sharing!

That's interesting.....I've been making a similar mod to my Strats since the 80's but my switch turns on the Bridge in the 3,4 and 5 positions. I wonder if it makes a difference to the sound? I didn't do this because of Gilmour, only because I realized that the bridge was unused after the 2nd position and I wanted to use it in all positions.
@TheGospelGuitarist
@TheGospelGuitarist 7 месяцев назад
I have mine reworked for 7 positions now and it utilizes the bridge pick too. Turns on in p4-5.

In the third position with the Switch on I hear a difference in the sound as if they were the pickups in push-pull is this normal?
@TheGospelGuitarist
@TheGospelGuitarist Год назад
Why would you turn it on when the 4th position does that same combination of neck and middle? No push-pull on my guitar so I can't address that issue, I don't know what the push-pull is doing. The mod is to address having the neck and bridge on together. Other combinations are already covered with stock wiring.

Alexy Tpax, when you drilled the hole, there was some risk you could have gone through and damaged your guitar body

Yes but use the left or right side only unless you have a single pole switch which can work as well.

Couldn't you wire it to the bridge and turn it on in the first position? This would just be the reverse of what you've done right?
@TheGospelGuitarist

Yes you could. So when the neck and are on you could flip on the bridge, sure. I thought about that when I done too.

@@Ottophil True, but this is my dream guitar that I have lovingly built from a pickup and an idea over a year ago so I am nearing the 98% completion section and it is just dragging on. You are right, though; I made it rocket science by taking it to a local shop to ask for some advice (which I paid for) and that kind of set me back quite a bit. Today is the day, I have tried and tested and the soldering iron is warming up. THANKS

Buy the proper bracket to go with it. That sticks up to far. You can also buy the scratch plate with the elongated hole. From six string supplies.

Is this an on-on or a on-off switch ?
@TheGospelGuitarist
@TheGospelGuitarist 3 года назад
ON-ON but only half wired to act On-Off. I've replaced these pickups with 4conductor humbucking singles, thinking of wiring this up as an all humbuckers or or all coil tapped (single coil mode) switch.
@neilrobinson7615
@neilrobinson7615 3 года назад
@@TheGospelGuitarist If you use a on-on-on switch for each humbucker, you can wire it to be split / single coil, series and parallel. Cover all three bases with the one switch. Just done the mod on my H-H Strat, sounds fantastic, you can get some really cool and useful tones.
