Hey! Just found this video searching for Gilson Tillers. I have the exact same one and it works great! "Motor Diverse": I see that you are missing the "spur" on your machine. When I got my machine it was missing too and it was a real pain to till with it. My arms turned to spaghetti after tilling for just a short time because you have to hold the machine back all the time. I was lucky enough to get the measurements for the spur and made one from some flat iron. Now it's breeze to till! When the spur grips the dirt I can almost let go of the handles and when the machine has chugged down to the desired depth I just pull up on the handles and let the machine walk forward just a tiny bit. Then I let the spur grip again and repeat the process. Also, I see people in the comments asking for belt sizes. This is what I have found out: Gilson partnumber 1110 (front belt)= 1/2"x35", 6163 (rear belt)= 3/8" x 37" Cheers from Sweden!
Hey ! Thank you for those tips ! There is allot of important details...when come to mechanics and how the machines is ment to operate. Every component can be very important. I did not know what you mention here and I will investigate. Thank you very much. I have place in Værmland by the way and I use a Husqvarna tiller which is the best I ever tried...so far. It is superior...and even starts on second pull...always ! :-)
I didn’t buy any parts. I made my own gaskets. If you pull the carb off of the tank, just take it apart, clean it all, take out the jet, clean the two stem screens going into the tank. Should be able to blow thru both, they come out small ports. Air hose works good, just watch for flying parts! I found this out the hard way! If you need links to the video I found, I’ll send it.
Date code is on the side of the blower housing next to the air filter. Last set of numbers. First two is the year, second two are the month. third is the day, last number is which plant motor was built in. NEVER run that motor more than 3600rpm! It can throw a rod or shoot the magnets out of the flywheel. Should be set at 3400rpm/no load. That is a very well built tiller. Will last almost forever with proper maintenance.
This video is an old one. How is the old Gilson rototiller running in the present time: June 3, 2024, or should I be asking how are you running? Do you find the tiller difficult to handle?
Time goes.Interesting comment angle he he. Well...it is in garage and probably doing well...the tiller. This year I used my ca. 1975 Ariens and did not use the Gilson for a couple of years I think. I guess it runs great still. As for me...I still do tilling pretty well... thank you. I did till with my Husqvarna tiller in sweden this year and that one is a newer type but suveren good tiller with forward and reverse and effective blades and starts on second pull ! Forgot the number on it at the moment...I have two places...one in Norway and one in Sweden.
@@motordiverse1276 Thank you for replying! Being an older post, I figured you would never check it or respond. Do you collect tillers? How old is the Gilson? What’s the difference between the Ariens and the Gilson? I thought theses models were similar. Your expertise on tillers is wonderful. I have heard of Husqvarna but never heard of suveren. I am happy to know you are still tilling and doing well.
@@sherryb875Hey!O mix a norwegian word.. Suveren...means very good or excellent. Those Gilson and Ariens is very the similar in construction and function. Is from the seventhies. Do not collect...but have some tillers and is not in need to buy more. I have six tillers. Thank you.
@@motordiverse1276 You do not collect tillers but you have six...hum. That sounds like a collector to me. Haha. Thank you for explaining "Suveren". Thanks
@@sherryb875 Hey! I have two properties..and two tillers on one and four in the other. I till both places in spring. Also I have this channel and need variation of models to present...if i want to. It is more like that..and not a collector. Also got one for free and bought other for very little money. I Use them and like to master them and like to share what happens...occationally. I am saw collector though...but plan is to sell almost all...bit by bit. Have insane many saws. Ok. Take care.
I disassembled the carb, gas tank, governor. Cleaned all, spark plug, etc. Fired first pull!! I found some very helpful videos and parts deals too. Haven’t ordered anything yet, I’m hoping to tear it completely down and service the gear box too. Kind Regards, Kevin D. White
Hey ! Sorry ...do not have that. I guess you need to search. There is maybe another on youtube that demonstrate the number in a clip. Other : Use google ! I recommend.
Did you find a belt? I just noticed you posted this a year ago, haha, I hope you found one by now. I just pulled an old Gilson tiller out of the scrap pile. My husband and I are getting back together. Belts were on top of the list.
