Funny though how in 1970 Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin were literally “playing 45 year old songs from 1925.” The irony here is incredible. The entire genre of rock music emerged from covers of the recorded blues music of the 1920s and 1930s. And many of THOSE songs were variations of much older spirituals and field hollers.
That floor tom needed to be involved, otherwise it was decent. I liked the pattern on the original too much, which each though it's simple flams, the pattern is going down the kit so you get a deeper sound.
He is covering the great Charlie Watts. He did amazingly well....nothing or no one plays this song like the master. CW RIP. you are missed. Great cover tho.
They’re both very good, but I gotta tell ya’ - the pipes on the girl in the red shorts are pretty spectacular. She sounds almost identical to the recording, at least to my ears. But overall, both of them - wow…just wow.
I'm sure the Stones wish every band covering this song "took off" like these two singers. When I'm watching SoR videos, I usually watch multiple versions of the same song back to back, so I've seen a bunch of schools playing Gimme Shelter over a bunch of years, and this one stands out.
This is a great rendition by these young, talented people. Maybe the best song from the greatest rock band of all time. I am truely amazed and happy that the younger generations enjoy doing the Stones music. Thinking about how this song came out probably before their parents were even born!!! Great job!
This Performance of a Classic by a Very Young New generation of Musicians not only brings tears to my eyes by it give s me hope for the future of the passion of Rock and Roll, Lord have Mercy,!!
This is commendable, however, the Los Angeles group IMO delivered a superior rendition with the vocals of Lili Rise McKay & the powerhouse vocals of Darla Beaux. They took it to an even higher level.

This Portland School of Rock group is fantastic in every video performance I’ve seen. I hope they are still performing, recording and are successful in any aspect of music they have chosen to pursue.
this needs to be filmed in a studio so we can really get better accoustics, cuz these ladies absolutely killed it vocally. i think doin this in a studio would push this into top tier of SOR top 10 for me.
Brilliant .... lots of energy ... just felt a little sorry for the guitarist though ... no matter how good you're playing and sounding ... when you have two gorgeous girls singing we are never gonna look at you ... loved it ....
Ive watched multiple covers. These young ladies absolutely killed it. I cant imagine in a few years , definitely pros. With that being said, everyone held their own. BEST OF LUCK! TIM- 6/12/24
Great job everyone. Except the videotography. My guess is the person videoing is a family member or bestie of the vocalists. There was very little shots of the other people especially during the solos.
That was really cool. A great song. The students did a fantastic job. Only recently i see a young girl do the same Rolling stones tune, i think her name is Nandi Bushnell !!
Lead vocalist does have some bluesy quality in her pipes. Hope these young folks are still enjoying performing . I always hear Grand Funk Railroad covering this in my mind.
great energy from the red dancer - and top notes singing as well - yeah wot I was playing this song in a rock band in like 1969 - now 54 years ago - does this qualify as classical music now ?
Excellent rendition and a different dynamic with dual female vocals. Would be interesting to know what the members of the band are doing now musically?
I was their age around 1985/6 and was in what is called the 'sixth form' at school here in the UK/England. (16 to 18yrs.) Of the girls there, and where i lived, i can't remember seeing a 'variety' of different looking/dressing girls.
@@adrianparker-e9f ""what is called the 'sixth form'" I am familiar with this 'sixth form' of which you speak, Earth Man: I visited one in order to study what was known as _A Level Classics_ , whilst on a sabbatical from my home star system. Your Earth is a beautiful planet - as, indeed, are _some_ of your women! 😉
Sorry to be so late to this party. Two very distinctive vocalists at work on this Stones' classic, and backed by a solid group of musicians at every turn. Really well done!
Singing high harmony on Gimme Shelter is really difficult due to huge difference between the low and high harmony. She absolutely nailed the high harmony!
I've done a lot of videos of musical groups, bar bands, classical, orchestra, auditions, teen idol...... but man, I wished I'd had a chance to work with this group! Their energy is just contagious.
Kudos. great job. I've seen lots of the School of Rock performances throughout the country. I've enjoyed your group the best. Vocals were excellent, Band was right on point, and the group as a whole had as very nice stage presence!
Very well done! Excellent! Kudos to the girl in the red shorts for trying to duplicate the original singer's controlled break in the mid-song vocal solo. Very difficult to pull off and it took guts to give it a go!
Mick Jagger would be so bloody pissed off if he heard this. He'd probably say "How the hell can these young blocks play our song better than me and me mates? Get me Lawyer on the telly!!!
Girl,s you can be proud I realiy enjoyed it [The guy on the drum could of had look like was in to the music then again that could be me] Thanks again guys
