Best archetype aesthetically imo. We need more gimmick puppet cards

Another deck for which I have some cool techs to suggest! -A few Orcust cards can't do bad when almost all your archetype is Dark Machine. For example you can use Foolish Burial Goods to send Orcust Crescendo and use it as a searcher for (almost) your whole archetype! Or for Desperado. Great when your opponent activates an effect to destroy your card. Also Chimera Doll locks you into Machine Xyz, not into Gimmick Puppet, so Dingirsu is an excellent option to protect your cards, eliminate what you can't destroy, or get back your banished Puppets. Other Xyz include Aegaion and Springans Ship Exblowrer. -Similarly, you can play some dangers like Bigfoot and Thunderbird. It's either free removal or free level 8s on the board. -... Similarly, you can use the Sky Striker engine (Hornet Drones into Kagari) to get 2 Machine links and help into summoning Chimera Doll. It's incredible how many ex-meta cards can enter in the GP deck. -Getting rank-ups is too hard? Add to your deck Numeron Wall and Numeron Network! Because YES, Numeron Force is a Numeron normal Spell, so you can activate it from your deck using the Network! Although beware because Numeron Force will negate your Network afterwise so it only works once. Gimmick Puppet is probably one of these old archetypes with really too many restrictions for their own good... but I still love them.

God, if any archetype desperately needs a legacy support batch in a core set, it's this one. Their situation is tragic, in the sense that they excel at making Rank 8s, but are super xenophobic. And this wouldn't be a problem if their Rank 8s were actually worth summoning by today's standards. They just need one decent Rank 8, preferably with some interaction and/or RUM searching, and then they'll have no strings to hold them down.

My personal headcanon is that Gimmick puppets are based on King Moonracer and the Island of Misfit Toys. With how Leo is so different from the other gimmick puppets. And showing how Quattro took in these toys that no one wants.

They might not be very good, but goodness do I love these puppets! Their bizarre and macabre appearance is just something unique and fascinating. I cannot get enough of these, and I wish more of these lovely puppets were added to the game. The art would be AWESOME! (Also, I am a huge Quattro fangirl, so that might play a role in this)

After trying this archetype they never were my style in terms of play but will always be the coolest looking in my opinion, in my days where all I knew was the anime I always saw the monsters or knight or cool dragon but these were actually frightening and the anime did a good job. Especially with my favorite, number 15

In the ANIME they say "Chaos Number". I don't know why they wrote it "Number C" on the English cards, but that's what they say in the sub, dub, and on Japanese prints of the cards.

Fun thing as well: Assuming you might include some Infinitrack stuff or Therions, it's worth considering Mythic Water Dragon over Gearspring Changer. MWD is far more reliable, works alongside Gear Changer, and can be Inferno Reckless Summoned as well. IRS can also be far superior to Machine Duplication, especially when you use Girsu, the Orcust Mekk-Knight as your play starter, as Girsu summons a counter not only to your field, but your opponent's field as well. This makes Magnet Doll live on your first turn as well as making IRS live to boot, while also giving you a free search if you mill Orcust Crescendo off of Girsu.

While the main deck monsters aren't too shabby i feel like the archetype magic/trap cards are lacking, they force you to run generic machine/dark/level 8 cards and those end up being a brick most of the time, you're also extremely dependent on argent chaos force to summon your best monster (yes, singular, every extra deck gimmick puppet besides giant hunter and chimera doll suck), and if it wasn't for it coming off the banlist (essentially giving you 4 of them, and yes i know there's quick chaos and numeron force, but the first one being quick play doesn't benefit your bread-and-butter XYZ monsters in any way while the second will completely lock you from using chimera's effect, even if you rank up that monster into something else, at least until you detach it) you'd also be forced to run zexal import to search for them. But that's not the deck's biggest problem, let's talk about the extra deck. WHAT THE HELL WENT WRONG WHEN DESIGNING THESE? Why does strings need to wait almost two whole turns for his destruction effect to trigger, when it has such little payoff? Why does he even need to detach a material to put a string counter on every face up monster, why is it not on summon, and why does it target your own cards as well? And i get that the point of this is so you can rank it up immediately into dark strings to destroy monsters (chimera can get protection from this with condolence puppet's effect) while drawing a card and inflicting burn damage, but what's with that second effect? Why does it let you detach a material to put string counters AGAIN (only on the opponent's face up monsters this time, thankfully) if it can't also trigger his first effect again? What's the point of it, summoning giant doll next turn, using his effect twice, ranking it up into dark strings, setting off his effect to draw a card and burn, attacking and ending on a zeus ready to nuke? You might as well run three each of the infinitely better giant doll and giant hunter. Strings and dark strings might as well not exist with how useless they are, they definitely need an errata/retrain: strings needs to completely get rid of his destruction effect, put string counters on summon and have a completely different detach effect (something like sending a gimmick puppet from the deck to the GY or summoning a gimmick puppet from the GY, either effect HOPT and banishing the monster when removed from the field), and dark strings needs to let you trigger his destruction effect again if you sacrifice dark strings himself, but preventing you from drawing another card and only inflicting burn damage if dark strings had a material attached when sacrificed. It's due to things like these that i just use strings/dark strings as a beatstick and to prevent the opponent from attacking directly, then XYZ climbing into zeus for up to two board wipes. Gigantes doll is decent legacy support, but it's not useful if you run only four level 4 cards like me and/or you win the roll and go first. Then there's leo, first of all you need three level 8 monsters to summon it, and when you do he's just a crappy beatstick, one that can easily get run over due to his pathetic (for a three material monster at least) 3200 ATK and no protection, with an horrible effect: you need to survive three whole turns without attacking and no backrow (it can get protection with bisque doll, terror baby and condolence puppet, plus dingirsu can remove a monster on summon, but it's still hard to pull off) to win. And his "upgraded" chaos form is just as bad, it now has innate protection, but his ATK increases only to 3500 while his effect completely changes from protecting leo to inflicting as much damage as you can (detach a material to inflict 1000 burn damage, you can only do it once per turn, and you win if your opponent has 2000 or less lifepoints). It'd be great if you could cheat out disaster leo by ranking up strings/giant doll into it, but the card can only be summoned by ranking up leo. And even with all these disadvantages HE'S STILL BETTER than strings and dark strings, because all things considered his chaos form isn't too bad and there's a super gimmicky combo you can pull off with it (if the stars ever align that is): summon leo, use xyz energy (twice) to blow up 2 monsters, use oni-gami combo to detach the last material and give it two attacks, attack twice, use quick chaos to rank up into disaster leo, attack with disaster leo, detach leo to inflict 1000 burn damage and hope your opponent died or was left with less than 2000 lifepoints when you end the turn. It's thank to these clowns that people prefer running staples or other jank/gimmick cards instead of the whole puppet package: i've seen people run 2/3 dingirsu and 2/3 zeus, draglubion with titanic galaxy and numeron dragon, the numeron engine, apollousa and underworld goddess, and my personal favorite: chaos dyson sphere (aka the true boss monster of the archetype), because argent chaos force can cheat it out (rank up dark strings/giant hunter), it has a bigger body than any extra deck gimmick puppet monster (3600 ATK, important because not a lot of monsters can run it over AND you can protect it from effects with condolence puppet), it has one of the best removal effects in the game (when it battles a monsters it just "absorbs" it, it doesn't destroy, banish nor target) and his effect inflicts up to 3000 burn damage, every single turn, without having to detach anything. It works even without having summoned dyson sphere first and overlaying chaos dyson sphere onto it (not that gimmick puppets have a way to summon a rank 9 XYZ, but this way it could theoretically absorb a monster, inflict 1200 burn damage, then activate it's second effect to detach everything and inflict an additional 3200). Chaos dyson sphere is every bit as hard to summon as disaster leo, yet it's completely worth the effort and it's sad because it's not related to the archetype in the slightest. I love the archetype (especially bisque doll, her cuteness made me want to build the deck IRL), but my god do they live up to their name.

Can we just stop for 2 seconds and just mention that Scissor Arms is in literal bondage gear, like the legs are restrained and the arms are pushed into an awkward position. The body of the monster looks like leather fetish gear. Children’s card game btw!

I play this deck in Duel Links. Mostly in Platnium and Legendary. Its solid but it always has a difficult time against the most competitive decks. Bisque Doll in particular gives you protection from a lot of favorite backrow, like Trecherous Trap Hole and Book of Moon. Of the cards you didn't mention in the video, Pulse Mines is pretty essential in DL. I switch up the other cards, but right now I'm running Xyz Block. I also keep Zombiestein and Sanafrond Sky Prison in the extra deck. I think Gimmick Puppets could actually come to glory if they ever get their Chaos Numbers. As it is its difficult to get the OTKO that this deck relies heavily on for victory since you're almost completely helpless during your opponent's turn.

When it comes to old archetypes like this and idk battlin boxers they might as well make truly broken support. A special summoning stratos that level modulates or negates, they really know how to make a deck terrible or good when they want to.

Honestly, I’m a little disappointed in the Gimmick Puppets. They ironically lack any unique gimmicks that makes them unique aside from the usual XYZ setups and effect burn/destruction.

I honestly didn't think I could not like an archetype, but I really dislike then and it wasn't until you used body horror to describe that I realized why. I hate the Body horror genre
