Comedian and hit CBS comedy series writer, Gina Yashere, joins Rob this week to tell the story of her big move to break America. Grafting on the LA comedy club scene, Gina tells of when she was picked up by the bookers for Def Comedy Jam who, unbeknown to Gina, were in the audience of one of her earliest gigs. They also go on to chat about Gina achieving a life goal of playing the ‘funny best friend’ on her hit series, Bob Hearts Abishola, and how she first came to meet the King of sit-coms, Chuck Lorre (Big Bang Theory, Mike and Molly, Two and a Half Men).
Ginas biography 'Cack-Handed: A Memoir', is available now from Amazon - www.amazon.co....

Rob, I've said this before, but you are a great person and extremely entertaining. I'm an American who has fallen in love with British Comedy Panel shows as well as sitcoms and you are a big reason why! This channel is great and I can't wait to see you in new episodes of WILTY. Also, having Gina on is brilliant. My wife and I love Bob

I loved her comment about all the British Black Comedians were waiting for Lenny Henry to die before it was their go. Never thought about that, but having thought I can see the truth of it....🙂

clearly not watching British tv because rarely see a white face on any comedy here

i remember Stephen K.Amos making the same point.I don't see why they couldn't build a fan base by touring , or writing their own sitcom as other comedians have done.

I wonder why the racists running TV allowed Henry to emerge in the 70s in the first place, then allowed his long career while discluding vast ranks of brilliant black comics. Y'know, I'll never understand racists. ...

Great story! Though, thanks to Jim Gaffigan, I can’t hear someone with an English accent say “went to hospital” without laughing. We Americans stick “the” between “to” and “hospital”. Though your way makes more sense. Saying “the hospital “ almost implies there is only one.

You don’t see many people who are that bold and driven to succeed. I’m surprised that Gina didn’t demand that Chuck Lorre flew to see her! “You want to meet me, yeah? You’d better get on a plane, Chuck.”

of COURSE they wanted to meet her "so badly." they called her agent, invited Gina to fly from NYC to LA and when she refused to fly coach they UPGRADED her seat to FIRST CLASS! why did that interviewer think she should expect any less?? gee, I wonder.🙄 as Gina said, *"know your worth."* and know it, even if clueless others don't agree that you're worthy.

Seems she has selective amnesia about black comedians not being allowed to flourish. Desmonds? Successful as you like with some great talemt. Nathan Caton? What a funny guy. There are comedians of all origins who don't make it, to smear society as racist is both shallow and disingenuous. The ones who didn't make it share one thing in common with Gina, they're not funny enough. Here you go Gina, have some salt and vinegar to go with those chips.
@dielaughing73

I didn't hear her accuse anyone of racism. You need to stop taking everything comedians say so literally.
@chrisb8075
@chrisb8075 3 года назад
@@dielaughing73 1. I "need"? 2. at 1:56 she makes a clear reference to racism in comedy. 3. "comedians"? I'm only reacting to one comedian (though l use the term loosely) her. She redefines BLM, Black Lesbians Moan. Bitterness and blaming is destructive and doesn't move society forwards, if you want some positive and realistic perspective on any of this listen to Morgan Freeman or Denzel Washington, both successful beyond measure BECAUSE THEY HAVE TALENT. I wouldn't presume to tell you what you "need", just stick to the actual words l've said and don't attribute meaning that isn't there just to suit your narrative.
@Lones555

I don't agree with her that Britain does not allow black comedians to flourish, she was a very mediocre stand up comedian. If you wanted to make it as a comedian you need to be funny.
