Directions for their belt loops are so much easier than turning!

Ha! Absolutely. Sometimes I don’t always do it the best way but at least you can see that there’s an option or that it’s not the best way to go 😉 I’ve sewn Jeans MANY times since these too.

I have three pairs. They’re great. I always have a bad order of operations on their front pockets though-skip ahead and then maybe rewind to make sure I don’t get you in to a spot of other ;) that tummy panel they added is awesome but I always forget it! And I’ve hand sewn it or tacked it to the edge of the zip fly on more than one occasion. lol

If you are thinking of sewing jeans then this is the one to watch. OMG top stitching the inside leg side seams. 3 1/2 hrs for a professional sewer to sew. Just watched episode 3 of Great British Sewing Bee Season 5 and the 1st challenge was a pair of 70's flare jeans. They had 3 hrs! 3 hrs! And that included choosing and cutting the fabric. EEek.

Louise T I thought those took me too long! I chat too much sometimes haha. I’m getting faster now that I’ve sewn a few but we don’t sew for ourselves because it’s faster do we? 😊 and I should have done the top stitching differently but I can’t resist it sometimes.

Yooooo could we get a break down of some of the pattern no-no's you've seen?! I'm super new to sewing and am interested in pattern drafting for myself, and I'd love to know what kinds of things you'd recommend to look out for.

Yooo! I talk about things I like or dislike about patterns frequently but more in context of what’s in front of me. I’ll be doing more drafting videos this summer too. If you’re able to make it to the live stream you can ask whatever you like and then I can answer for you ☺️ I haven’t posted info about my camera setup mostly since no one has asked. It’s not fancy equipment. But I did take time for the setup. Are you interested in something in particular?

Great video! Curious why you wouldn't just serge the seams instead of serge each layer by itself and then machine stitch together.

Oh yes you can absolutely do that and I probably would have except at the time this video was taken, I most likely didn’t have a camera on my serger. (Sorry I can’t remember what the exact situation was or even a lot about this project 🙃). And I really like to show all the sewing on camera. I was also probably still trying to figure out how long people would watch, how many parts a garment could be in terms of part 1 sewing part 2 sewing etc, and how to add as many cameras as possible since there is a limit so I have to prioritize. I think serging both layers together is less bulky so go for it!

Your sewing machine sounds like it's a dream to sew with! Which one is it? Do you have a knee presser foot lifter?

The Serial Hobbyist Girl It’s a Juki 8700. And it is a dream to sew with indeed! My old industrial had a knee lift. But this one is a heel lift (I push with my heels on the foot pedal to raise the presser foot and also to clip the threads). 🙂

Can you do the inseam first before the outer sides of the jeans so you could easily do two rows of topstitching? My commercial jeans all have top stitching on the inseam only.

I just saw your question! So sorry! I did topstitch both inner and outer in one of my Ginger Jeans videos. It’s still quite tricky. The inseam is important to topstitch because of how they wear. Hope yours turned out great!!

Haha! Fair enough. I don’t even notice it if they are-I think these were the first pair? I’ve made a few others since. Maybe I did a better job on those. I’m always trying to do better!
