i agree. We need to invest into researching of how to recycle lithium and such. At least for now, lithium battery waste only affects locally while CO2 and methane affect the world. Hopefully, future science can address battery.

Exactly, the batteries are an ADDITIONAL environmental issue but hey, like humans, we always wait till it’s too late so once the batteries start adding to the problem THATS when we will decide to do something about it and ONLY if the solution still makes us money 😉

Totally agree. I’ve had a Prius for 13 years this month & took a lot of razzing, some harassment for it. While, yes, I’m rewarded with terrific mileage (48 mpg) I bought it to tell then Detroit I was peeved they hadn’t done their job as elsewhere car companies had while I had done mine rearing my wonderful son (another grateful reward). Our children & grandchildren deserve the best we can do. Our planet *Earth* deserves it.

Bill's got a point, though. The biggest culprit of climate change is the burning of fossil fuels. If you follow a vegan diet and don't do anything about decreasing your gas/oil/coal use, you won't be doing much for the environment. Oftentimes, grazing land is unsuitable for cultivating crops, so veganism, in the long run, is unsustainable (if you don't want anyone to starve, that is). However, I do agree that we should cut back on our consumption of meat (as well as 'vegan' foodstuffs like tomatoes, sugar and chocolate, which consume a lot of water). We should also opt for chicken over beef, for example. That alone will massively reduce our water footprint.

However Your comment sounded like you were saying those ingredients are garbage. It seemed odd. I get all that you’re saying, but a vegan diet can be healthy under certain circumstances for some people. I like cheese and eggs too much plus crispy chicken thighs. Just goes to show we should all be careful with our assumptions about others because of a comment online. As far as fertilizer, you can compost all your food scraps including the veg and fruit parts you don’t eat. It doesn’t just have to be animal waste.

You do know that greenhouse gases trap the sun's heat that is being reflected from the earth's surface in the form of infrared waves. So, more greenhouse emissions (most of its contribution comes from burning of fossil fuel), the more the heat is trapped, and greater the increase in average global temperatures.

There should be a program to buy back gas guzzlers and credit breaks for electric cars. Production of new electric and building charging stations can boost economy.

Green new deals cannot be done fully. Costs about 95 trillion. We can still take up important elements of it. Only if manchin would be willing to pass a solid climate bill. I'm ok with giving some benefits to fossil fuels at first and then cutting it off gradually for good. Whatever to make the bill passed.

Very well put! Overpopulation will be the end of humanity. Nature keeps trying to cull us with viruses, diseases and catastrophic weather events, but we always find a way of surviving (which I am extremely glad and thankful for, don't get me wrong). It does seem like our survival instinct is, ironically, driving us closer to extinction.

@@lucasribeiro7534 JFYI… I’m not a college graduate with degrees in anything, but I’m well versed in a number of topics because I read…a LOT! I had 3 different volumes of encyclopedias to read in my household while I was in elementary school and my parents/grandparents were very intelligent. The logic and reason I possess allows me to envision the future. World War, famine, disease and weather catastrophes are far more likely to cull the population before global warming does. The question is, how long will the planet be inhabitable? Water pollution is a factor many people overlook. Disease borne issues are lurking everywhere. Air quality is subjective considering the possibility of nuclear bombs being used to fight wars. All the testing done by the USA/USSR 60-70 years ago has probably done more damage than they’re telling us. The collapse of fruits and vegetables is only a few billion dead bees 🐝 away. Cattle, hogs & chickens don’t exactly live in pristinely clean environments, can be easily sickened and could unwittingly poison the population if they don’t die before they get to slaughter. Sorry to have to ramble on about it…but seems no one ever speaks about these issues. We need to be more cognizant of our own actions and consequences there of. I never had children. I have tried to tell people of the future I could see approaching our planet decades ago. No one listened.

@@guitarcomet5 From my experience, wisdom isn't taught at university, so you have an advantage over many people with degrees. As you read a lot, you probably know just as much as a college graduate anyway (speaking as one). I also see a bleak future ahead of us and, subconsciously, I'm very reluctant to have children but I had never made that connection.

Unfortunately, It was all over the news a few years ago that the Amazon is being decimated to grow soy to feed livestock. Not to feed vegans. The insatiable hunger for meat/beef provided that greedy, ruthless Brazilian president the impetus to clear the world’s largest tropical rainforest; attacking/uprooting its indigenous peoples in the process.

Republican leadership has tended to vote against any climate change initiatives or any regulations to make industry cleaner. Not all republicans but those who hold power.
