I have used the coconut oil and essential oils to handle gingivitis in our newest young cat. I alternate with a mix of baking soda and coconut oil with lavender and a hint of frankincense too. She had BAD GINGIVITIS. This has worked amazingly over a week. I’m so relieved to see you using these remedies. Naturally I have felt hesitant at first, but now I totally trust this. Helps a lot coming from you. I take any of our animals to the vet with things I am confused or unsure about. Have their bloodwork done for a baseline, but handle most things with a lot of these remedies when anything comes up. Really brave and cool for you to share. We need our doctors and we also can take more responsibility at home once we learn a few things. Thank you again.
I grow aloe plants and occasionally I cut off a leaf and freeze it in a ziplock bag. After it’s frozen, you can cut the edge’s off the frozen leaf, slice it open lengthwise to expose the inside of the leaf and the aloe and rub the frozen aloe on the gums, then after rubbing the aloe on them, throw away the left over skin from the leaf. By the time you cut the leaf open, the aloe is still mostly frozen but not cold enough to cause damage.

My little Tonk is 5 & her gingivitis became severe resulting in a “floating” canine which dislocated her jaw when she bit down.She had to see a dental specialist to have her jaw put back & had 9 teeth removed. I wish I’d dealt with the gingivitis a lot earlier saving my Bebe trauma/pain (& a stack of $ too). Thanks so much 😻
My senior dog had such bad gingivitis that you could hardly see his canines. I started brushing his teeth, gently at first, with a regular toothbrush once a week and he improved immediately. My younger dog is 5 and I've been brushing her teeth since she got all of her adult teeth. She has the teeth of a 1 to 2 year old. I highly recommend brushing dogs' teeth every 7 to 10 days. I go over every area quickly twice...it only takes a minute or so. Also helps with doggy breath.
With the lemon EO added to the green tea, you said to use it as a rinse and not to have it ingested. How exactly would a cat not possible swallow this? Thanks

I start with just my finger wrapped in a piece of gauze and gently rubbing their gums to get them used to me being in there. Then I graduate up to applying a mixture of coconut oil with baking soda to gently clean the teeth and gumline. It may take a while to get to this point, depending on how tolerant your dog or cat is to having his teeth cleaned.

You must have read my mind, I was researching this today for our 7 yr old Pug/Boston X. I did come across research on how Kelp (Ascophyllum Nodosum) will actually break down and dissolve tartar & plaque as well as help with gingivitis. The Kelp powder can be added to their food.

I brush my dogs teeth with a good dog toothpaste every night before bed. I started it when I got him (rescue) and after $500 vet dental cleaning and extractions. So far so good. I love your videos Doctor 😊
I found your video interesting but I have a couple of questions. One, I thought citrus essential oils as well as peppermint essential oil are toxic to cats. If you are using them in a rinse, how do you prevent them from swallowing the green tea mixed with lemon essential oil? My cat is currently dealing with chronic stomatitis. I don't want to have to remove all his teeth as from what I understand it doesn't always solve the problem. I have used Greenies in their dry food daily for well over a year and I am using some kind of liquid in their water that was given to me by the Vet to reduce tartar build-up with obviously no benefit because one of my other cats has gingivitis as well. Idon't have the over $800 the Vet wants to clean my cats teeth. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

I just lost my little dachshund of 12 Years due to stomatitis. She had her teeth cleaned every year but her last teeth cleaning started an infection called stomatitis. She was on Metacam for pain relief for her back and because of this she didn't stop eating until the very end. Please insist your cat or dog gets antibiotic shot after every cleaning and ask for antibiotics to be on the safe side. Stomatitis can make your dog very sick. She did not have severe plaque buildup but still got stomatitis. I hope this helps a lot of pet owners to pay attention to their dog's mouth, if you smell an odor within a month after a teeth cleaning get your dog to a vet immediately for antibiotics.

Kibble gets stuck in their teeth and the sugars, which it’s filled with, ferment and cause problems. Vary their diet up as much as possible and include supplements and their health will be great, and they’ll love eating a variable diet.
My cat was diagnosed with FORLS and Stomatitis. He had a full mouth extraction on 7/15/19. I hope this ride him of Stomatitis, but too early to tell. If not, do you have any suggestions, I really don't want to keep giving him prednisolone transdermally.
@@sheilacvetic4986 Hi, Sheila. I Am Not a Vet, but my cat also has this health problem. It's only been about a month and a half since I made big changes in my cat's diet but he is doing better now. Now, I make him home-made cat food and I rinse his teeth with antiseptic after meals. He is alive; he is a healthy weight; and he has a good appetite. He has stopped screaming, dropping his food, and running around in pain. I have started giving him hemp oil drops to help to keep him calm (because I think he was traumatized by having the advanced symptoms of this painful oral disease). I am still trying to learn more about what else I can do to help him. From my experience, homeopathic changes for my cat helped him to not have to be strictly dependent on strong drugs and invasive medical procedures. I wish you and your cat well.
Dr Jones. I missed your videos on the bad dog food recall. I had signed up for it and we had really bad winds here. I have a new internet carrier and it really isn't getting stable yet. Coconut oil and baking soda might work, and feels safer than green tea flush. Tea contains Theobromine which is toxic to cats. However as per a quick Google search more than one teaspoon of baking soda will be toxic. So maybe I will start with a pinch of baking soda with coconut oil. Rest of the products I would recommend to read content label and not use any product hastily if there is no content label

Another commenter from another video used Bentonite clay powder to their cat food. Just dusted on the food before putting in the bowl. Solved the gingivitis on an elderly cat better than antibiotics, etc..

I am so glad about this video I hope you see this message soon . My cat was diagnosed with gengivitis Friday today is now Sunday and he’s not eating or drinking he’s in a lot of pain I could tell . The blood work came out fine for surgery but I don’t want to wait a while other day just to see about when he can get surgery . Is there anything that can be done outside taking him to an emergency clinic to spend a lot of money .
I used garlic oil that humans can drink and mix it with apple cider brags , pepper, sea salt and some clove with mixed with water helped when I had a tooth ache and used it on my dog and cat
My cat needs his teeth cleaned the Vet said but he doesn't have bad gingivitis. I ordered some natural oral care called Espree and it seems to be working, his breath doesn't smell anymore but he will not let me check his teeth. I put 4 drops on his paw and he licks it off.

Are they safe as I've been learning sodium benzoate isn't the best, especially when mixed with citric acid? Im pretty sure all the Mexican markets have a large aloe vera plant leaf for about $1.50 it is huge their are many videos on RU-vid that will show you exactly what to do eventually you will find a great video

What is a good over the counter pill one can give the dog before taking to vet for "more peaceful and less biteful" examination. Infact this can come handy even at home for things like tooth cleaning or putting medicines on cuts and bruises etc. Feisty and alarmed dogs make bad patients and sometimes even to their own masters. I have heard of sleepiness as one of the side effects of Benadryl which can be used to calm down the dog, but would it have other issues as cannot give Benadryl all the time just to get dog half sleepy for examination.
GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). I give 250 mg to my 50 lb dog. Hope Dr Jones will cover this. See his other videos. He suggests Melatonin in one. He has MANY videos at your dispose to study and evaluate the one which might best work for your pet. ru-vid.com
One of my cats started drooling with his tongue out and it has foul smell, there's no vets in ny town and we can't go out because of this pandemic. I don't know what's happening but he's been like that for almost a day, he can't even eat nor drink. What should I do? What's happening to him? 😢
Did you get help? Sounds like gum infection, toothache, absess. Teeth are rotting from bacteria. Pain...which they usually can hide well... The bacteria toxins (pus) may make your cat sick. They will drool, shake the head, not eat, hide, etc. My cat is facing this too. Vet said it will take pulling several infected teeth as antibiotics are only a band aid. The cost is 600 to 1400 dollars Canadian. They charge $85 for 15 minutes...that's $340/hr. That sucks. Until then, I made tea out of Plantain and softened my cats food with the tea so he can avoid chewing hard. He got a bit of the boiled green bits to eat with it. Plantain is called "natures band aid". It is antibacterial, used to treat infections, swelling, cuts, etc. I hope Plantain will clean his mouth of bacteria for a start...I hope. Plantain is used as a poultice, in oils, or tea...it draws toxins out of the body. It probably grows in front of your house. He didn't mind the taste. I also put ice water along his jaw, his fur and skin wet to cool his gums from the outside. I'd just dip my fingers in the ice water, lightly rub it into his chin, jaw, cheek. He liked the rub and didn't notice the water. So far so good. It will be a week before I can get the teeth out. Good luck.

I actually wasn't able to take him to the vet, all I did is softened his food and give him luke warm water at first he couldn't eat it at all nor drink but the other he's actually trying to eat it even if it looks painful. I don't know really know what happened but he miraculously recovered. 😄
I am stuck with making a decision of taking my 13-year-old Maltese to get her teeth cleaned. The vet did all lab work in October and she’s very healthy. She’s had little to no health issues. She suffers from mild arthritis, but she hasn’t had a flair up for a year. She’s very active and happy; not in pain. Anyhow, her vet insists her teeth really need to be cleaned. I brush her teeth from time to time, when she lets me. Her gum bled a bit. She’s got two teeth that look brown near the gum. I know she needs to get them cleaned. But I can’t help but feel scared that she may not wake up. Please advise and what should I ask my vet to make sure she will be okay. I’m very anxious and just want her to stay as healthy as possible. Please help...
Took my cat to the vet today. I did not know anything about gingivitis till today - they are telling me that we have to extract all of teeth. Heartbroken and trying to find a solution to this. I want to fight to save his teeth and he does too. He's a fighter and always has been. Does anyone know a good vet in Toronto for a second opinion?

it's really hard to give my cat meds since his gums are swollen, I'm guessing it hurt like hell, what should I do? also cleaning his gums are quite painful too me,
I had this problem also and had I not listened to my mother, I would never have taken charge of the matter. She said, "You have to do what's good for him". She meant that just because my cat didn't like me going near his mouth, doesn't mean it's ok to do nothing for him. So I began with a very soft gauze-like fabric and I dip it in warm water and antiseptic and gently massage the rinse through out his teeth and gums repeatedly until all the particles, leftover from his meal, rinse out. This has really helped. I recommend, start with a warm water rinse with antiseptic for cat (or the remedies recommended here which sound good; I will try them). I think you have to start somewhere, and then it should get easier from there. Best of luck.
@@VeterinarySecrets I already did doc, We already got him to his vet and they told us that it was gingivitis, we are currently treating him in our house and the first day of cleaning his gums /mouth area with his meds are successful thankfully, hopefully, it should heal after seven days and we'll go back to his vet. The technique that I use is I'm wetting the cotton swabs with the meds for cleaning his gums and carefully rotating it inside his mouth especially teeth and gum area, and we are giving him syrup painkiller and to reduce the swelling little by little, doc, any tips that you can give for faster treatment would be appreciated, Thank you so much,

One of my community cats may have mild stomatitis. Instead of applying topically to gum line, can I mix the licorice tincture into coconut oil and put in his wet food to ingest orally? Will that be effective? Pls respond.
“Topically” is a specific instruction. Ingesting it will not have the same effect. That goes for any medication. You wouldn’t ingest neosporen.. but since the problem area is the mouth i understand why you ask. Unfortunately your cat will get weak from not eating, you’ll be able to treat them. My vet gave my cat an inflammatory and anti-biotic shot. It helped but it is temporary

Kindly keep dog's teeth in near top shape as an decay can cause bacteria and toxins which cane travel to major organs like heart, kidney etc. and cause big issues. If any tooth is decayed, just get it pulled out, dog's eat for hunger not for tasting like humans. Dogs can also gorge food without chewing.
I see a small reddish coloured ulcer behind of his mouth, kindly could you suggest what to do. He's not showing much interest in eating. Only if its given he eats but not enthusiastic. It's there for 3days now.
How about just a green tea tea bag? He barely lets me see in his mouth much less finger his gums lol 😆. So just squirting it in will have to do. So green tea bags will work??
