Gino is a top notch vocalist and musician. He plays numerous instruments. He is now 71 yrs old and is still touring and still sounds FABULOUS!❣️

Finally! Gino during the years of 1975 - 1981 created an absolute music magic. Many people who know his music well including me thinks he is one of greatest masters of modern times. Please check out many more of him. "Where am I going" live 1991 is a good one and many more

As an old drummer, I have learned so much technique and chops by listening to Gino Vannelli drummers. The drumming is always world class. Thanks for the reaction. Made my day.

Mark Craney was my drum teacher. We used to jam to this song and also some Tull and Jean-luc Ponty. I still use some of the rhythmic concepts he tought me. Very influential album to musicians who "know." Also props to Carlos Rios on guitar and Jimmy Haslip on bass.

Mark was such an amazing drummer. I first heard hiw work on Tull's "A" album. Even the sound of his Toms are unique and the flamms and rimshots.

I got into Gino last year because Rick Beato put this album in his Top 50 Sounding Albums video, and was pulled in by the drums by sample he played. I watched all the live performances and he is real gift to this world. Not that many songs I instaskip from him. Some of the new renditions of his songs are better than the original, such as "Hurts to be in Love".

One of the best sounding concerts I've ever been to was Gino Vannelli in Jacksonville Florida at the old Coliseum which was right by the old Gator Bowl. I want to say 1978, maybe 79? They freaking smoked and sounded so good, so damn good. There's a ton of great Gino tracks out there. His brother Joe Vannelli is the keyboard master, and he just tears it up. I think Daryl Stuermer was on guitar for that show. He's played with Genesis and Phil Collins and others. He was killer that night.

I only really discovered his music this year. Now I have 4 of his albums. What his brother did with synths to create that full sound is almost as impressive Gino himself. His touring band featured Daryl Stuermer in the late 70s.

@snuppssynthchannel
@snuppssynthchannel 8 месяцев назад
Very proggy with an air of west coast fusion, the whole band is top notch and mark Craney's drumming here was in the forefront of innovation. Luxurious is indeed a great way to explain Gino's sound. Yacht prog it is :D. Those distinct keyboard sounds are from the Yamaha CP-80 or CP-70 electric Grand which was very popular instrument in the late 70's in a lot of pop, fusion, R&B and west coast stuff, U.K also used it extensively alongside the CS-80 poly synth.

Though not his most popular album, A Pauper in Paradise got me through a year in college ... along with Supertramp and Dan Fogelberg. My favorite tracks are Surest Things Can Change and One Night With You. He's quite talented.

A Pauper in Paradise is great but downright symphonic in its B side (which differentiates it a bit from his previous and subsequent albums). That doesn't stop it from being one of Gino Vannelli's best albums !

It's been decades since I've heard this, nice call-back people. Listening to Dirty Loops, it always bugged me who they reminded of. Now I know, yacht-prog,? Hmmm, I will buy that, this just sails on! Appropriate song title also, his two brothers are on this album. Very nice, thanks all. Peace and Love.

Great song and album from Gino Vannelli who was at his peak here (although his previous albums were just as delectable as Brother to Brother and the following Nightwalker is far from negligible!). Aside from Imaginary Voyage, you can also find the fabulous and late Mark Craney on Jean-Luc Ponty's album Civilized Evil. Justin, it's time you discovered Jethro Tull's underrated but excellent "A" (since remember that aside from Mark Craney, there's also Eddie Jobson on this one!😉).

Hi Justin. Dave from London, admiring The Browns, Reds And Golds Of Autumn. A fizzing fusion track, with some exhilarating musicianship. I agree, the interplay of bass and drums is a highlight. Back in my 70s college days in Manchester, UK, a local radio DJ used to play Gino's earlier album Storm At Sunup which I really liked. Never bought it though - maybe it was down to Gino displaying a tad too much chest hair on the cover! P.S. my song ref is from The Moody Blues poem The Dream.

I haven't heard this in a very long time. Very cool! Gino has a gorgeous voice and he is from Montreal, Canada 🇨🇦 He went more pop in thr 80's. Black cars look better in the shade was one of his 80's hits. I have a request for something completely different but I thing you will find interesting Another Canadian band called The Tea Party. I don't know if you have heard of them before. They are heavy with a middle eastern vibe to some of their songs and they use some very different instruments. I am suggesting Sister Awake live at Much More Music Toronto. I hope I sold it well enough 😀😉 Cheers

Back as a 70s Prog teen I was a reluctant huge fan because this album was like Tom Jones showbiz meets Progressive Rock/Jazz/Soul but with better vocals. The album itself has some great instrumental arrangements and dramatic moments. I do love the entire uplifting themes and moods. VERY 70S in that way before everything went dark. LOVE MY YOUTH MUSIC 😅

Hey JP, want to try something different, but really good…..try anything off of the album, Buckingham Nicks. It was an album Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks made before they joined Fleetwood Mac. You can really hear how they influenced FM. Cheers for the Frozen North (Canada). 🎉🇨🇦😎🥶

I just wanna stop, calling this yacht prog… My artist friend had several earlier Gino V. albums which got me to grab a Gino Brother To Brother 8track. Soulful hybrid of rock and fusion and yes, prog. Only been on a yacht once, a crazy body painting adventure almost gone wrong… another time.
@DavidImiri
@DavidImiri 8 месяцев назад
Yacht yes, but prog? A bit maybe, as it gets spacey, but I hear a lot more fusion really, and disco for that matter. Mahavishnu and Spyro Gyra in a blender playing the Bee Gees, with a sprinkling of Sly & the Family Stone. Upbeat groove, and technically proficient. Nothing to complain about, but not something I would reach for - it's a bit cluttered, and I'm not huge on jazz. I can see why you really liked this though.

If you like this kind of music I would suggest you try "Frank Nimsgern". It's a guitarist from my region (Saarland in Germany) who toured with Gino Vanelli in the '90s. His best album is his first called "Frank Nimsgern Featuring Chaka Khan & Billy Cobham" really excellent music (hey it's already worth it just for the feat. Chaka Khan & Billy Cobham).

I always knew of Geno Vannelli but oddly the only song I thought I knew of his turned out to be a Cory Hart song (I wear my sunglasses at night). I really enjoyed this. It sounds like Stevie Wonder and Steely Dan had a fusion love child. Turns out it was Edward Bear I was thinking of which means I had confused two different groups with Geno and neither is anything like him.

I'm not a fan of this. The musicianship's there, but as a piece it's all rather disjointed. Worst though, that opening, the first 2-3 mins. Just sounded like cheesy, kitsch, cabaret music. I struggled getting past this, and taking it seriously thereafter. It screamed, 'bring on the spangly clad dancing girls'..... Nope, not for me this 'un.
