FYI for anyone who’s interested, Amazon has Donginbi on sale right now! Most of the products have a 30-35% discount coupon! I ordered the single essence and the moisture firming cream and OMG... the CREAM... i used it for the first time last night and not only did it feel like heaven when you rub it into your skin, when I woke up this morning I swear I saw a difference over night and I don’t say that lightly! I’m a huge critic when it comes to night creams! Lol my face was smooth, hydrated and plump, the redness had gone down and my overall skin tone looked so even and bright! 😳 going to keep trying it but so far I’m impressed. I have the emulsion too that I love but it’s not quite moisturizing enough on its own for my dry skin. The texture is gorgeous though. Haven’t tried the essence yet. I’m obsessed with ginseng now! 😍
@@AliceintheRabbitHole they have really good week-long sales around Black Friday and Christmas when their products are 40 -50% off. They recently had 40-50% off during Amazon prime week.
Here's my grandmother story again. Some info I heard from watching some OG RU-vidrs in the past, Sulwhasoo is actually the brand that was given to political visitors to the country. Popular actress (my favourite Korean actress) Song Hye Kyo is the spokesperson, she used to be the spokesperson for Laneige for many years but a couple of years back went on to sign as Sulwhasoo first or first permanent spokesperson. Both brands are under Amore Pacific. It's rival, LG Household & Healthcare created The History of Whoo to compete against Sulwhasoo. Missha Geum Sul First Essence Booster is created as a dupe for Sulwhasoo's most famous First Care Activating Serum EX. Even though both are supposed to be the first step after cleansing, they feel more like a serum. Tried and love both, prefer Missha a little more as Sulwhasoo FEELS like it contains more alcohol (without reference to ingredient composition). Just bought Beauty of Joseon Ginseng water and Propolis serum but yet to try them. You are talking me into buying Donginbi, the only problem is they are a little expensive here in Singapore because they aren't so popular here so it is rarer. Anyhow, I have too much skincare.
I'm really hoping Donginbi grows in popularity so it's easier for us all to get their products haha! But yeah, I do feel their products are gorgeous and the price fair for the contents. That's interesting - I've heard a lot of good things about the History of Whoo, but still yet to try (and...the prices ouch!)
Brought me back to the days I used to buy boxes of red panache ginseng vials with the itty bitty straws. Broke of the top of the vial, stuck that straw in and it was gone! Kind of liked the taste. So glad ginseng products stuck around long enough for you to air your video. Highly informative. ❤️❤️
It's definitely a different taste! Tbh contemplating it. The supplement study I linked used 750mg which is...relatively, a lot. But whew, looks promising.
OoOoOoOoOhHhHhH my girls got receipts! Aka citations lol do you watch SNL? It made me think of Cecily Strong when she was imitating Marjorie Taylor Green last weekend. I kept saying to myself "shes all about the sience!" which would only be funny if you saw that sketch!
I bought the Sulwhasoo serum, balancing water, emulsion, and firming cream and it’s the only face cream that doesn’t irritate me or burn my skin. My face is also brighter and more plump in a good way. I’m 42 years old and have rosacea. It’s also helped my husband not break out and cleared his face of breakouts. Same with my daughter. It’s hella expensive though! But it literally last me a whole year as long as I’m not sharing it with anyone in my family 😂
Well documented and explained. I started with Sulwhasoo, the old formula. The new one is no longer as potent as before. I am sticking with Doginbi and CLIV( less of it, lately).
@@AliceintheRabbitHole The Concentrated Gingseng Renewal Cream has no longer the same concentration of the main ingredient as the previous ones- the ones before 2019- I purchased them twice, thinking that, maybe ,my skin got too tired of the cream but I was wrong. I read about the reformulation and understood why my $240 went to a mediocre cream. The serum is still OK.
Such a great synopsis on the benefits of ginseng in skincare. I've had the Donginbi I'm my Amazon cart for a while now. I remember in the 90s every corner store sold the little ginseng shots for an energy boost, I would see the empty vials littering the streets. They were the OG 5 hour energy and Red Bull I guess. 😊
Why is there no way to prevent this. I can't figure it out. No matter how much we are happy with a video when it goes live, eventually? Oh we will HATE it 🤣🤣
whats your take on galactomyces ferment in skincare? it looks promising but I don’t really know how legit it really is. Ok ill give you some context. After starting tret i wanted to add niacinamide in my routine. Beauty of Joseon’s Glow serum was too heavy and im scared of 10% niacinamide serums so i came up with Purito's Galacto Niacin 97 Power Essence with 5% niacinamide but I can’t fully understand wth with galactomyces! specially if i were to apply before my tret :/ helppppp im really conflicted lol
I use it! Galactomyces is derived from sake (in a similar idea to SK-II). It's hydrating and rich in antioxidants. Only precaution is for those who can't use fermented ingredients, but it seems to work out for the vast majority of people 😊
I cannot believe you didn't mention the I'm From ginseng line!! They are the king of capturing a single underutilized eastern ingredient and formulating it beautifully in multiple forms
And they use the aged form of ginseng too! Looks like a great alternative to Donginbi tbh. It's funny, I didn't look into the ginseng line because it wasn't highly recommended. But NOW I'm thinking i might have loved the ginseng products? (Especially interested in the serum)
I tried the beauty of serum snail mucin and ginseng serum. It has been 6 weeks and my skin is bringther, firmer and has a natural glow. It has decreased the redness is my chin significantly. This product is a must in my beauty routine.
I'm tempted to buy that Sulwhasoo serum but I don't know where I'd get it in Williamsburg. 200 bucks ain't bad for a product if it works. You could spend more and get a lot less for your dosh (looking at BSturm haha). Thanks for the heads up! I think Yukeido makes a cheap Ginseng cream.
I'm collecting samples of Barbara Sturm this month! Can't wait to see if my review of the brand is a fresh, spicy roast or...if I eat my words. We'll see haha But yeah, Sulwhasoo is very, very high quality skincare.
On Amazon they have the dongibi red gensing for 60% off the smaller size u have is like 25$ with tax right now it does have a expiration date of 6/22 but I still think it's a good deal and u could use the smaller size up pretty fast. I just wanted to let u know the deal if you were running low on that or out.
Great video! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 I haven’t tried ginseng at all in skincare, but after this I am very interested. The Sulwhasoo serum would be nice to try, but I think I’m gonna start with the Beauty of Joseon essence. I like your perspective on the financial part, because instead of buying something really expensive and then only using a few times a week or using till you run out and then not being able to repurchase, I’d much rather buy something I can afford to use consistently.
Honestly either, but different products. The emulsion from Donginbi would likely be perfect for you, and I think the BoJ essence is lightweight enough also (the Donginbi essence is a bit more viscous in comparison)
Hey Alice, I was wondering if you have tried the Sooryehan line of Ginseng? They're also kind of expensive, but I think they're more affordable than Sulwhasoo.
Oh interesting! I actually hadn't heard of this brand, but yeah - looks like another option indeed. I wonder if this is another brand that is popular in Korea, but not discussed as much outside of the country? 🤔
I used to take ginseng supplements every day to help with vertigo (ginseng, ginger, and ginkgo to be specific) but I'm not sure it helped my skin at all because I was a teenager with terrible acne 😅
@7:15 yep, Im thinking this is the case with the brand Kahi. Sometimes theyre afordable, other times the products are crazy expensive. Maybe theyre still trying to figure out their market group
Thank you so much for your review and being so clear and transparent with your information. I appreciate your knowledge in research and that you share this information with us in matters that we can understand. I was debating on purchasing the sulwhasoo concentrated ginseng renewing serum but the fact that the fragrance ingredient is before the ginseng has me scratching my head. Now the donginbi on the other hand looks a little more appealing (and the fragrance ingredient is at the bottom of the list and the first ingredient is ginseng). I always enjoy watching your video. Thank you so much ❤
U are overread about beauty of joseon.... U said they didn't list the ginseng source... Read the ingredients carefully Lady..they use. PAnax ginseng water which good..l affordable doesn't mean they use cheap stuff...u should also find a brand called papa recipe...
I'm pretty tempted! Since you sent me a sale, I'll have to pass this one to you haha: the iHerb site has an extra 20% off today. Very, very tempted to grab the ginseng serum (not sure they have the mask actually)
Thank you 😊 I’m using Donginbi emulsion which I bought during Christmas time on sale and oh my.... I just love it. My skin looks amazing when I use it.
I remembered u said to write separately as u do not get alerts for replying. Actually gotten 2 box sets of The History of Whoo whilst in HK, they were quite cheap in comparison since HK doesn't impose an import tax on skincare and cosmetics but have to be careful as the proximity to u know where could mean a lot of fakes there. Well, I didn't get to use them, as I watched them expiring away, I had to resell both sets quickly in our 2nd hand market because again, too much skincare. Don't know when I will get the chance to try to get hold of the brand ever again.
Yes, thank you! It's still a problem unfortunately, but I try to go back and check for replies. Really need to get it fixed lol Yeah, I have heard that there are incredible deals to be found if you travel. Import fees alone can really up the price (we see it here when brands are added to Sephora - great for convenience, always the highest price 😅)
@@sylph99 You should reconsider the rubbish you just spewed because "you know where" don't just have extremely rich people, it's built on a vast number of extremely poor people and those extremely rich may not necessarily make their money with a clear conscience! "you know where" indeed faked products and posted them close to the regular prices elsewhere. If you are not happy, then it's not anyone else fault because "you know where" are full of greedy people who wouldn't mind the death of a few babies when they "faked" milk powder for example. Btw, "you know where" claims to be a developing, not developed country just recently only because "you know where" only wants to benefits but not responsibilities and "you know where" are full of extremely poor women too such as "the chained women"!
It's painful to know how good the products are, but not be able to afford them lol. However! Consistency really is key, and I'm consistent with my more affordable options. And honestly, happy with my skin 🤷♀️
I tried BOS (first product I’ve ever used from start to finish without skipping a day) and was blown away. I can’t wait to step it up to the next level and try the other ginseng products.
Alice. You've done it again. You got me hooked on new things. First always using HUM and now... I ended up trying out ordering Beauty of Joseon's bubble toner and ginseng water on Althea. So now my process is literally actually simpler than ever but my skin is looking incredible. I use whatever cleanser I have available at the time, the Bubble Toner, then if needed, Cosrx's Blemish Cream (which is ridiculously effective for me. Insanely so) and then Cosrx's snail mucin. On some days I try to add my Differin in to get some retinol, but I've been shocked at the Bubble toner. It's so easy to use and so effective!!! I haven't figured out where to try the ginseng water yet in the process as I get a bit confused on order and if I've just nullified what I just did, but I intend to incorporate it to try. I'm in LOVE.
I LOVE IT SO MUCH!! I suspect it's that it's at a perfect AHA level for slightly more reactive skin? I can't do high AHAs often, but I can get away with that toner. Sorry going off because I'm right there with you on loving it LOL!
Unrelated to this video but guess who gave in and bought the Glow Recipe body cream and Fresh waterless cleanser... I had a 15% off coupon so it was a valid purchase okay!
Let me know how the body cream is!! Well, and your thoughts on Fresh. Whew I love that cleanser lol. I actually have yet another micellar water to talk about (Neogen), but it's so hard to put others up against Fresh haha!
You look and sound a bit like a more excitable Lily, Serenas mom in gossip girl in this video lol. Thank you for posting this! I recently got into Ginseng and am overwhelmed by the mostly expensive products.
@@AliceintheRabbitHole LOL so compare to these - volume vs cost lol I enjoy K beauty. Using a green tea “toner”, COSRX, Galactimides, just picked up a vitamin C serum Seoul Ceuticals to try-contains Ferulic Acid, Hyalauromic, D-alpha Tocapheryl. I’d like to try the Ginseng 🤔🤔🤔 but not sure which. You mentioned a supplement... do you have a lead on a capsule?
I just got some beauty of joseon products from your recs! I'm the one with dry acne skin too hehe. They were out of stock for the glow serum which sucked but I'll get that soon. But I did get the gingeng water and plum bubble toner 💜💜 I'm LOVING the toner, it's so fun and easy to apply. Just put on the ginseng water tonight for the first time, we will see how I like! Thanks for all your wonderful info. I always appreciate your insight and your videos.
Aw yay!! Yeah I absolutely love those products - what a wonderful brand. I still can't get over that they made a fun/effective toner with that bubble toner. Those words very rarely go together, but they did it!
Oh my God! i just need to try out something with Ginseng but I can’t find these brands where I live... it seems such an amazing ingredient to add to my routine🥰🥰
Thank you for making this video! I was looking into the very expensive ginseng face oil because I am into luxurious skin care and thank you for filling me in on a lot of these products! Your skin looks absolutely amazing
Can you make more videos a week please? Your channel is my most recent subscribe but I love to watch you more than other beauty channels even if sometimes there are same products
Do you know what compounds cause phytochemicals in ginseng to degrade or destabilize? I'm trying to see how to integrate ginseng into my skincare routine.
I do not, but I did stumble upon a study that looked at the stability compared to L-AA, and ginseng did win out (arguably of course though lol). I'd say it seems to be fairly stable overall.
That's a really good question. I was also struggling to find answers on their cruelty-free status also, BUT - that may reflect that they are less popular in the US, and thus we just have less information overall. Still possible that they are CF/vegan (hopefully someone else knows more than I do here!)
@@AliceintheRabbitHole I hope I can find out while it’s on sale. Can’t find it on any cruelty free or vegan websites, which is usually not a good sign. But maybe, like you said, the brand has not been popular enough to have been investigated.
