Maria Callas absolutely owned every of her roles. No other soprano could ever do justice to the roles she sang after her. Her beautiful voice, geniality, musicality, phrasing, perfect breath control. She was a miracle.
Saluti a tutti i melomani!
Again, we have another recording which demonstrates the fallacy of weight loss equals voice loss. Callas is almost a decade past the major weight loss here and still has the ability to create a gorgeous, huge tone and all of the artistic growth supporting it.
I cannot agree with you more. Her personal tragedy maybe had a slight effect on her voice for a while but the weight loss nothing. There are many recordings later than this that demonstrates this.
Her interpretation is incredible, and the cumulative effect of her choices is riveting. But there is quite a bit of deterioration in her technique and the voice itself since the earlier recording. She is exploiting some of the technical flaws which emerged in the intervening years to enhance her interpretation.
She run to make this recording in La Scala..in begin of September 1959,after that famous fatal cruising holiday at Onassis boat at Mediterrian island´s... This was very fatal...in all sensis...as she would sing in the future ! Any case this a best recording for ever...!! Thank you, Maria !
For some reasson I've always preferred Callas' later "Gioconda" to er earlier one, even though her voice was in much better shape in 1952 than in 1959. I think she really shines here :)
Not just you. This recording is widely recognized as the better of the two. It's interesting to note that Callas herself regarded this recording as the top achievement of her career, artistically speaking, despite her preference for bel canto.
Cappuccilli plat (piatto?!). Forse. Oltre e Simone suggerirei Macbeth.
