I know this poem by heart because I am Eichendorff-Leser......since a long time and not only the poems ....not all on the same high level, but with a few very famous and a lot of less known pieces ....among the best-known is Mondnacht , of course. But Eichendorff offers more than a handful magical poems and a collection of stories ......his letters, his other writings about literature and not to forget f ex a piece for the theatre called Der letzte Held der Marienburg The last hero of Marienburg Castle......by the way, Mr Hotter and Mr Moore real excellent, it is a challenge for this team of the singer and the player to evoke this special moonnight of words & notes, but these two create it....the recording I prefer for this Lied was and is Richard Tauber

@@meisterwue I was hoping for you to add such a valuable contribution! It‘s a lovely channel that deserves attention and listeners who support it! Do you remember when we were kids? Everyone studied „Mondnacht“ at school. Today they are hardly able to name more than two German poets after thirteen years of school, let alone only nine years… Just a few weeks ago there was a lady on a quizz show on TV who didn‘t recognize a famous line from Goethe‘s Zauberlehrling. No problem, nobody knows or remembers everything. I don‘t. What shocked me was her explanation: „We didn‘t tend to Goethe at school. We did Schiller.“ - - - That was it?!?! Good gracious, how embarrassing! For our school system, that is. As for Hotter‘s and Moore‘s performance: It‘s hard to surpass!!! But you already recommended Tauber once and I listened with awe; Tauber was such a terrific Lied singer and his performance was, of course, magnificent! Different from Hotter‘s, of course, a tenor versus a bass-baritone, both hold their own, and I‘m glad I don‘t have to decide who to pick; the approaches differ as does the atmosphere conjured up by the two artists… but what I‘m sure of is that out of all the singers I heard perform „Mondnacht“, these two are on the top of my list. They even outshine my beloved Heinrich Schlusnus - but only by a tiny bit! Or do they…? I guess I have to listen to all three of them in a row to make up my mind!

Übrigens ist das Gedicht von Eichendorff ein Kleinod als lyrisches Ereignis .....metrisch betrachtet und rhythmisch und sonst noch , z b der Himmel & Blütenschimmer , das ist ein Reim (!) und diese quasi Märchenstimmung( es war....), dann die Syntax ( alle 3 Strophen jeweils in einem Satz( irreale Vergleichssätze belehrt der Duden, d h Str 1 & 3 als hätte , als flöge und das ist ja noch nicht alles, die Bildebene als solche und der Mond , das romantische Ursujet, verbunden mit dem Wanderer, der Pilgerschaft, der Ewigkeit und das Leuchten dahin). Konjunktivisch verhaltene caspar-david-friedrichsche Atmosphäre, denn was Eichendorff in Versen geschaffen hat, hat Schumann in Töne gesetzt und Caspar David Friedrich hat es gemalt......sieh Dir das Gemälde "Mondaufgang am Meer" an, zur Zeit in Hamburg ausgestellt

Übrigens schätze ich den korrekten Gebrauch des Konjunktivs sehr; leider stirbt er aus, ebenso wie der Genitiv, dessen Tod ja der Dativ ist; der Akkusativ wiederum meuchelt bereits den Dativ, und häufig wird nur noch der Nominativ benutzt - der Verfall der deutschen Sprache setzt sich fort und immer weiter fort… Schlusnus mit „Mondnacht“ findest Du auf RU-vid (hast Du mittlerweile wahrscheinlich schon) - aber Du wirst lachen, ich habe mitten im Kommentar etwas anderes erledigen müssen und dachte, als ich weiterschrieb, wir wären bei den beiden Grenadieren (auch auf diesem Kanal mit Hotter), dann kam noch eine Unterbrechung, und ich befand mich wieder in der Mondnacht… Den obigen Kommentar habe ich jetzt ein bisschen angepasst, aber es lohnt das nochmalige Lesen nicht; es galt nur, einen kleinen Gedankenwirrwarr aufzudröseln! 🥹😅😇
