Th rule is: There are four terminations of key, namely two that ascend and two that descend. When the partimento ascends by a semitone, then the interval turns into 7 and 1. When it ascends a whole tone it turns into 4 and 5. When it descends a semitone it turns into 6 and 5. When it descends
a whole tone it turns into 2 and 1. But take care to see that the new key in which you proceed corresponds to the old key. One recognizes whether the new key should begin in the minor or major mode from the prior occurence of the new scale’s 3rd or even its 6th. An example follows.
