UBC Thunderbird Offensive Lineman Giovanni Manu joined the guys to react to being selected in the 4th round by the Detroit Lions and the influence Blake Nill and Dan Dorazio have had on him.
Hank Fraley is the line coach for the lions .. manu is about to be trained by the best in the nfl hes blessed to be going to the lions AS the lions have the best o line in the whole nfl
Welcome to The Pride Gio. Once a Lion, ALWAYS a Lion brotha... 🦁 Study hard, practice even harder, when you get your opportunity on the field rely on your preparation, give max effort and the fanbase will embrace ya 4 life... Good Luck big fella 🫡
He wants to be the "most dominant and aggressive OL when he steps on the field"...then he is definitely going to the right team since he will be practicing and potentially playing next to, the most dominant and aggressive OL in the game, Penei Sewell (a guy he obviously has a few thing in common with!).
Detroit is counting on big boy to turn into our LT of the future. I like the attitude he has so far because he has a lot of work to put in before he’s ready.
No. Hell nah. He'll play LT or LG. Why would mahogany play LG or even tackle. Mahogany is the clear starter after zietler at RG. And when decker retires sewell will go left tackle
@tralfaz1308 no dude think about it for a second. Why would they want him to play rg we just drafted mahogany. He plays exclusively rg. So why would Manu play there instead of mahogany
As a Detroit lion, i welcome both him and betts to our pride. Im a big hockey fan as well and living 10 minutes away from the boarder, us in detroit love canada. Nothin bad to say and i look forward to him next to Penei. One pride
I was cool with this man coming to Detroit but man after getting to see and hear this guy has got me feeling all in glad to have you in Honolulu blue bit guy!!! 🎉
RG??? Thats interesting 🤔 Even if he starts there in his career I can still see him moving to RT once Decker is done and if Penei moves to LT. Keep in mind Mahogany is predominately a RG, and may have a physical limitation to only playing there.
@LionsOnTheHunt313 never know the future and how he develops in all honesty. He could very well replace Decker down the road. He just said tonight Lions were pretty concise that he was going to right guard, even after he said he prefers the left side. Diffently a 2 year project moving him to a side he's never played on. Can you imagine if he becomes a solid starter. He and Sewell down hill on a lb/db. Road graders!!! Heard an interesting note, tonight, don't know the truth to it, but the 6th round guard we drafted fell in the draft due to 1 leg being shorter than the other.
@@tralfaz1308 right, for starters. I think the long term plan is for him to be a right tackle. You don't spend a third round pick on a guy who needs to be developed just to be a guard...
As a Lions fan I’m very happy we drafted you. You’re going to love Detroit and the Lions. We have the best fans in the world. You’re going to love Dan Cambell and Brad Holmes and the rest of the coaching staff. Who better to learn from than Penei Sewell and Taylor Decker. CONGRATS!
My gut reaction after the draft was that I LOVED the Mahogany pick and I was pretty skeptical of the Manu pick. It was simply because I had done deep dives into about 220 prospects this year and Mahogany was my 76th ranked prospect while Manu wasn't even on my radar, so trading so much to get him in the 4th was pretty wild to me. But now that I've looked into him and become more familiar, I think the Lions did fantastic with both picks, even if I think they could have maybe waited a little on Manu and got him a little cheaper. He's a high variance prospect who needs time, but the upside is legitimately All-Pro caliber. While I think Mahogany is the safer, lower upside prospect who I think could step in right away and has a really good chance to be a solid starter for years, but probably doesn't have the potential to be one of the best guards in the league. Given how good the O-line already is, I love the process of taking two O-linemen with profiles like that... one to help our immediate depth and raise our floor, and one to help our future and raise our ceiling.
Yeah, that first game last year vs KC, Sewell and Vatai looked great next to each other. Hal’s back couldn’t last anymore and he was back on IR then out of the league. I think Detroit envisions that same duo on the right. He’s gonna have to learn to move his feet better and pick up loose change better being a guard. Will take a lot of reps.
Sure bet Penei will take Manu under his wing, given the their both Polynesian. Manu has the potential to be Jordan Mailata n if that happens, good look to the rest of NFC North.
I love this pick, but its a pretty wild idea to have a 6'8" dude who can move like that to guard. I hope they at least cross train him a bit at tackle, because he could legit be a Decker replacement in the future if he develops. However, if he can make it work at guard then that right side of the line might be the scariest the NFL has ever seen lol. We need to start thinking up potential nicknames for it... the Polynesian Pile Drivers, the South Pacific Smashers, or something like that haha.
The Arnold pick and this pick. Arnold reminds me of Deion Sanders. This kid on the highlights looks to have raw talent. He's huge. Brad Holmes could be a genius.
RG??? Thats interesting 🤔 Even if he starts there in his career I can still see him moving to RT once Decker is done and if Penei moves to LT. Keep in mind Mahogany is predominately a RG, and may have a physical limitation to only playing there.
