Remarkable recording of Giovanni Martinelli (1885-1969) in his glorious prime, singing "Celeste Aïda" from Verdi's Aïda. This rare recording was made in 1929 for the Edison Company.
this is a rare recording--most his recordings were made for Victor. He was also a participant in the early Vitaphone Shorts made in the late 20 s and early 30s where he also does this selection and several others on film. He certainly belts the hell out of this!!
