Christina not wanting to reveal the location at this point is incredibly suspicious. She doesn't want her to be found. Perhaps injuries that wouldn't result from drowning, say, a head injury from being struck with a paddle.

I completely agree. I feel that if my worst enemy drowned like she says Nancy did, I would still tell authorities and cooperate, especially to give closure to the family. Her behavior doesn’t make sense even for a lawyer.

Surely they legally have to be investigated and help the police? This is crazy that you would witness a death or disappearance then run away and refuse to help the police. Surely they have to give statements as they are witness to a crime?
@SmegInThePants
@SmegInThePants 8 месяцев назад
@@aurora6920 that's precisely why its so suspicious they left so quickly, because one possible motive that immediately occurs to a listener of this story when hearing that they quickly left the country, is that they did so precisely to avoid being under the jurisdiction and laws of the local police which might have the right to force them to cooperate in various ways, or hold them accountable for deliberate or negligent behavior. But if they leave the country before the police can act to keep them in their jurisdiction, a race against the local police, they can avoid such things. Now that they are out of country, they are unreachable by the local police, out from under their jurisdiction, and it would take diplomatic levels of cooperation to get them back in the local interrogation room of the police in guatemala, which depending on treaties and such might be impossible/unlikely, but in the very least - much less likely than if they had stayed. It reeks of panic and fear and an attempt to avoid being in a situation where they can be forced to cooperate in just the manner you describe. In the very least its behavior consistent w/that idea. And even if it fails and they eventually have to make statements or participate in some way in the investigation, they have certainly in the very least bought themselves a lot of time to consider a careful response, to talk to a lawyer, to protect themselves from whatever it is they fear might happen.

Don't worry, if it seems fishy to you, it DEFINATELY seems fishy to the investigators of local law authorities.
@HeyLeFay

@@aurora6920 An accidental drowning isn't a crime, so they're not legally compelled to speak with police. Also, this happening in Guatemala but the witnesses being American citizens who are now back in America just makes it more complicated. US police don't have jurisdiction over there and Guatemala doesn't have jurisdiction over here. I'm pretty sure Guatemala would need some sort of direct evidence that a crime occurred and then convince the US to extradite the suspects.

It's extremely distressing to me that she still hasn't been found... it's been months and I don't know if its reasonable to assume she is alive even if she just.. got lost or injured. And these people weren't strictly close friends or anything but that doesn't make their continued silence less suspicious. If I knew a woman went missing on a trip with me I would tell them every single detail i knew about that trip. Even details that might not seem relevant. It seems like an area people might be able to get lost taking a scenic walk or get injured hiking etc The silence makes this seem MUCH more sinister. The fact that this group didn't have a protocol to keep track of every member and LEFT THE COUNTRY WITHOUT HER EARLY is alarming and I don't trust anyone who went with her. Without their input it seems like the case feels... hopeless and I have so much compassion for Nancy and her family. I hope so desperately that she's okay and returns home. This is such a suspicious case. It's frightening to know that she likely felt much safer taking a vacation like this because she was in a fairly large group of people she knew. Traveling alone as a woman - particularly as an asian woman - can be really dangerous and it just feels so sinister that they just...all clammed up and abandoned a member. If theyd returned as usual on schedule and had lokked forbher the entire time it wouldn't be so mortifying I i think. I think they should all be considered suspects in her disappearance. Or at least held accountable for their refusal to engage with authorities to help find her. I just....hate this. #whereisNancyNg

 @somethingclever8916 Flights do get canceled or changed all the time, whether its the airline or the purchaser of the ticket (plans change). I don't think anyone is saying that because 1 or more members left early is suspicious on it's own, but the rest of the evidence does. Regardless of whether the earlier flight/s was suspicious or not; - Why did the group leave without paying, flights being rebooked to earlier flights isn't suspicious on its own, but when they leave without paying any outstanding bills (in that country) like accomadation, or notifing their host that they're leaving early. That does sound suspicious to me. Who would book a trip they can't afford! - Why were the retreaters unwilling to communicate with authorities and help - Why did the "witness" leave the country and keep quiet all this time, ignoring the families cries. A small group of stangers/acquaintances go on a yoga retreat, where at some point they go kayaking on a lake as a group, 2 people seperate from the group and disappear from view, only one returns and the retreat goes on like normal. The retreater that returned on her own, now claims that Nancy drowned, that she tried to find her but couldn't and claims that she alerted the local authorities, which kind seems like they brushed her off, based on the statement. If that was the case I find it hard to believe that the instructor or the other retreaters would have not known or found out that she drowned, notice she was missing. Surely if 2 people seperated from a small group, that the group would notice their abscense and notice the return of 1 without the other. Someone paying to go on a yoga retreat, surely that someone not present in the late evening / night time would raise suspicion or atleast curiosity. On a 7 day retreat with a small group, even if they were complete strangers, you would think they would get to know each other on some level, on a first name basis. The group gets together but one's missing, surely you would atleast wonder where the missing person is. I can't remember the exact number, but I'm pretty sure the video stated that she wasn't reported missing until hours later. I know that if I saw someone fall off their kayak and couldn't see them after that, I would atleast look and wait until they got back on their kayak, I wouldn't just turn my back and forget about it (not knowing whether they got back on their kayak), if I then searched and couldn't find them, I'd report it right away. I would be asking questions, make sure people in the area know of the missing person, so they can keep an eye out for that person. I think it was the instructor that claimed he left on the day that he had pre-planned so he posted his plane ticket to prove that he did leave as planned, but then a tiktoker was able to find his receipt (based off the info the instractor released), which proved that he canceled and rebooked an early flight. In the extremely unlikely case that any retreater left, without knowing of Nancy's disappearance, surely they would find out quickly when they got home, whether its news, socialmedia or the authorities trying to contact them for any information. I can't remember all the details so if I've got a fact wrong, then feel free to correct me. But it baffles me how anyone could not see this as suspicious.

So she told them to lawyer up even though she was the one that would be looked at. It allowed them all to look suspicious instead. I had thought it was them too until they shared the information that she was an attorney. What they did was awful but it is exactly how our 'justice system' should be approached with extreme caution and assume they are assuming guilt. :( it shouldn't be like this but innocent people have gone away for many years some entire life times. I can’t help but say that she was running with the wrong kind of people. Friends don’t leave friends without saying a word. She should have never went on that trip. A ransom was not what this was about. It’s highly likely envy/jealousy was the culprit. The one who kayaked back out of sight with her should be the one questioned. They apparently saw her last. If she had drowned WHY had no one said anything or immediately went to shore? They just went about their excursion?! No. That isn’t “normal”.

They’re not her friends, they’re just random people who also went on the trip. If it was planned, they’d have stayed and spoken with police. But they ran instead. That’s a panic response

I love that you brought this case up to our attention (hasn't been seen much out of the States or even Guatemala I suppose, since I haven't heard and I'm not from either country) or had much of a huge impact outside of tiktok, not sure. But I still appreciate it since not many channels here that comment on these issues or focus their content on them tend to talk about recent cases. I hope you can make a follow up video with the new info that comes up!

The lake is both very large and a common place for kayaking, if her kayak washed up on shore it could've been taken by someone who didn't know a person had gone missing and just thought a tourist was being lazy. It also could've sunk in the rough waters or just been undiscovered on the shore somewhere(and that's not factoring in the foul play option).

I don't think you should be interested in when people fly in and out, they are in a foreign country that they know nothing about, one of the biggest fears of travelers is being captured by the international police and being thrown in a horrible place for a crime you didn't commit.

The whole "friends" refusing to say anything situation reminds me of a case from my country, were a guy vanished and none of his friends want to talk about the disapearance with the guys family members etc, literally one person took pics of that guys sister so that he can avoid her if he sees her again. It also doesn't help that the police in that area too doesn't seem to take whole thing seriously like "no crime involved" etc. Nancy's travel groups behaviour screams red flag for sure. So sad and mad about the whole story, hopefully someone will find Nancy eventually, her family deserves her to get back home.

I was unaware that you can just refuse to talk to authorities. I always assumed you had to in a situation like this.
@rachelosiria7865
@rachelosiria7865 8 месяцев назад
You can refuse to talk without a lawyer, but, that's only a law in America. If they didn't report this to the authorities in Guatemala they might face separate charges in that country. Also refusing to talk without a lawyer does not mean you're allowed to wait over a month to get a lawyer and release a statement. You still have to find a lawyer quickly. If you can't afford a lawyer you go to the police station and say you have something to tell them, but you need a court appointed lawyer first. 💯
@AnaPie896

Unless you are being charged or are subpoenaed you never have to talk to the authorities. It’s highly recommended NOT to without an attorney present even if you’re totally innocent
@pedrothevenard
@pedrothevenard 8 месяцев назад
@@rachelosiria7865That's absolutely not true, in America, you never have to talk to authorities, even in a trial, you always have the right to remain silent, even without a lawyer, you might be forced to go to the station to stay silent there for a while, IF, and that's really important, IF the police requests your presence during a CRIMINAL investigation, and that's only with evidence of a crime, but you never have to talk, at all, about anything, and nobody can force you, and if they do force you, anything you say under pressure it's not admissible.
@rachelosiria7865
@rachelosiria7865 8 месяцев назад
@@pedrothevenard I meant in a situation like this with a missing person/someone who died. You can't just go months withholding information. Ie. What happened with Gabby petito. You absolutely have the right to speak with an attorney but you can't just wait a month before you do that.
@pedrothevenard
@pedrothevenard 8 месяцев назад
@@rachelosiria7865 You absolutely can, it's just immoral, but absolutely not illegal, the police can ask you, but in no way shape or form can they force you, if you are withhelding information and it's found out on a court case, you might be prosecuted depending on the reason and on the influence of your silence on the case, but if you just don't want to talk, there's absolutely nothing that can be done to you, at all. Also it's never on you, the police needs to be the driving force behind it, if it took a month for her to lawyer up, it means that it took a month for the police to start the pressure. The right to remain silent exist even for crimes, let alone for something that you can't even start a case on yet.

Yet millions swim , dive , work , boat every day in lakes ,rivers and oceans without fear . Just because the fear of this confuses you it does not others . She is in the water for sure and the question is assisted or misadventure . Only the witness knows the answer to this and she has given a statement . Unless somebody from the group says otherwise then people are guessing by feelings not evidence .
