Honestly Jess, your hair playlist is the most realistic and transparent hair diary in the RU-vidverse. Thank you for always delivering bomb relatable content and I believe your next big chop will be your last big chop, in Jesus name! 😇😉
I remember in 1997 my hairstylist would do flat twists in her clients. I had a big chop that summer before I started high school. I thought by the time my hair grew back flat twist would be out of style. Look at us in 2023 and flat twists are still popular. I would wear my flat twists for a week then take them out. Then I would wear my hair out for a week. I
After turning 30 and wanting to dye my hair blue for years and being natural for 13 years, I’m at a point where I want to have fun with my hair so I dyed it blue and am buying a relaxer to give myself a pixie cut. So have fun and we will be here for the ride. You make great content either way. Do what you want and have fun.
I had blue, green, red and blonde tips on my natural hair. After each color, I’d big chop cuz dye does a number on hair. I just turned 31 & went back to the creamy crack after 5 years 😂 have fun and keep up with your appointments at your stylist 😁
This video gave me some hope 🥹 STILL getting braids tomorrow because I absolutely CAN NOT with my natural hair anymore… but you keeping hope alive over here sis 😂
I relate to you so much! After realizing that i was spending more time doing my bra strap length hair than researching things for my career or hobbies that I want to explore, I decided to completely shave it off! I'm 2 weeks into the shaved head look and I'm working on getting waves. I absolutely adore it, its so freeing. I feel like I'm finally doing the "forbidden" things that girls with natural hair weren't supposed to do. I say do whatever works for you and allows you to experiment the way you want. You could try more protective styles or locs (or wigs if you can tolerate it with the heat). Whatever you decide, I'm here for it!
I feel like this should be the norm like so whatever works best for you and whatever makes you happy. I feel like nothing should be off limits when it comes to our hair, wanna shave it? Cool, relaxer? Cool, wigs? Cool. Gotta live our life out here lol
I agree, you don’t have to choose. When you’re straightening, make sure you use heat protectant and try not to use excessive heat. That way you can protect your new growth. As your hair grows, trim the damaged ends and maintain the bob til the damaged ends are gone. When you want a curly look, if this twist out lasted beyond the camera, then wear twist outs. 🙂
Jess!!!! I feel you! My hair has so many textures in it too! I have 3C in my nape. And the rest is a mix of 4a/4b and some parts maybe a slight 4c. So wash and go’s have always been a challenge for me! The 3C nape would grow soooo fast. And I feel you on the twist out… after a day in this Houston humidity- it’s like I didn’t even twist it! What I learned - just let it be. I legit hate that I can’t enjoy styles for more than a day or two. Like seriously. So now…. All I do is Afro or curly fros. Or puffs in its natural state if it’s not in a protective style. Because I don’t have the time. Like you said - some styles don’t work for everyone. So embrace what works. ❤❤❤❤❤
Ikr I just do quick and easy updo or halfway style and I'm not ever doing hard complicated styles again because my hair is too thick and long for that!
I love this…I truly believe this is the first video where I have heard someone say my hair is frizzy or yeah my hair looks good now but when I go outside it’s frizz city. Or that silk presses aren’t for people in humidity. Or wash n gos aren’t for everybody. The hair community has done right by me and has helped introduce me to my natural hair and how to properly take care of it. I love the honesty…it’s refreshing and honestly made me take a deep breath and drop my shoulders. I have always had this idea that I wasn’t ever (in this 13 yr journey) doing this correctly or that there was something wrong with my hair. Oh the time spent slicking twisting my hair into oblivion to make it behave and look like nothing like it is natural. It’s honestly more work than when I use to straighten it. So when it doesn’t turn out correctly or how I had it in my head despite all the hard work, it makes it extra disappointing. I do get compliments on my hair a lot but it takes a lot of work. I just turned 45 and now my hair is thinning due to menopause. Which is a whole other chapter. I wish there were more people like this that were like let’s just accept it. I mean..treat your hair correctly but if there is a quirk then so be it. I especially wish I had this thought process when my was thicker instead of being upset bc I couldn’t tame it. Or trying to make it look like someone who didn’t even have my curl pattern. I’ve gone off on a tangent but Thank you for the honesty. I feel better hearing someone else express dealing with the same things that I deal with..and more than someone just about talking about shrinkage.
Hello Jessica, I have a version of alopecia and praise God my hair starting to come back in. I found your channel at the height my hair loss. You gave me the courage to big chop, which as a woman can be really hard to do. Anyway, I have this kid and play thing going on now, but just like you said in your video, I am not trying to mess up the new growth as it comes in. I am more a follower, not so much a poster, but I had to pause to make sure you knew your hair came out beautiful and to thank you for being such positive influencers. Wishing you all the best! P.s You and Johnathon are adorable❤
I had natural hair for a while and got fed up with it tbh, so I ended up texturizing to loosen the curl pattern so it would be more manageable. Wasn’t really feeling it. Stopped giving my hair the love and attention it needed and came to the conclusion that I either will relax and get a pixie cut or get locs. I decided to start my locs because I have had every single style you could think of before, but never tried locs. So far it’s been great. I don’t have to spend so much time on my hair and that’s the main thing for me. So all that to say, it all depends on you and how you feel.
I'm at a point where idk what to do with my hair either. I think I'm going to big chop in the summer, grow it back out,& probably loc it in the near future 🤷🏾♀ Also your results were amazing!
Oh Jess I feel the same about my hair especially the frizzy pieces. But I've noticed different products hold the hair much differently. My Shorter hair also curls so much better /different than when it's long. Multi textured hair is something else 😑 . Just do whatever makes you happy love!
Jess, I feel you, sis! My best ideas are either getting semi-permanemt locs (bc we all know you'll eventually be done with locs too lol) or going to a hair specialist for those front pieces and figuring out if there is anything you can do to decrease frizz. That's all I have for now, but your hair is so beautiful regardless of which way you wear it
I felt everything thing you said about the front of your hair. I have the exact same issue. I believe we have the same hair texture if not very similar. I even had that weird color change in the center of my hair too. My hair constantly disrespects me lol and I’m so close to just becoming a straight natural or getting semi permanent locs for a long while
@@OnlyOneJess sis!! I went through exactly what you're going through....loc'd my hair then combed them out after 18 months....lost soooo much hair BUT I don't regret my loc journey because now I know....the loose natural saga continues lol
Omg, this is really bomb. Thanks for all your contents, and yeah i have missed your hair video so bad, very inspiring. Would like to have your intro music too. Kiss from France 👋🏾👋🏾🇲🇫
I love you jess , I'm so happy to see u again and I hope u will be making frequent hair videos from now on . I can wait to see your hair growth back again
What are your thoughts on the 30-day hair detox? I never thought I could wear wash n go’s, since doing the detox I’ve been wearing them consistently and do my hair about once a week without refreshing throughout the week. The Doux Mousse Def is also a great product to combat frizz for twist outs!! Just make sure to sit under the dryer to set it for at least 15 minutes!!
I feel that multi texture struggle. And the humidity! I tried to blow my hair out a few months ago and the humidity said nope immediately. I say it’s your head so have fun.
Jess your hair came out really cute. I know the feeling when you say you do your hair and then the next day it’s over lol. I’m new to doing my own natural hair and I’m finding my way.
Your hair is gorgeous. I llove flat twist but just can't seem to figure out how to do it. And yes thank you so much for doing all you do for us. We truly luv ya 🥰
You just have to embrace the frizz at this point cause it's just who you are. When I was growing out heat damage at the front of my hair, I would just rebraid or retwist the front every night and pineapple the back. Tedious but the style would last a week. Your hair looks cute and remember we always notice our imperfections, other people don't really be paying attention. Even though I thought the front of my hair looked scraggly, I would still get compliments and it would make my day. Live your best curly life!
I think it’s time to try the blown out natural life! I just started that journey about two months ago now that my hair is longer and it’s been life changing ever since 🥰
Gurrrl ❤I feel you!!!! I have big chop so many times, and my hair comes out looking the exactly the same. I have the same problem that you have in the front of your hair, but mine is in the back from the crown half way down. I have three textures 4a, b and c😫 how I wish it was all one texture. And I have different densities as well. My hair is thicker in the front and thinner in the back. My twist outs are never defined in the middle of my head toward the back so I’m looking cute in the front, but don’t want to turn around because the back of my head will be frizzy in an hour.😅🤦🏾♀️
I’ve gotten to a point where I’ve obsessed over my hair for years and I’m just over it lol I put my hair in started locs. It was either that or shaving it low. I may still shave it some time in the future. I just can’t obsess over my hair anymore lol I’m 1 month and 2 weeks in. I’ve had a mental release with not having to worry about my hair ❤
You’ll be beautiful whatever you choose but if you still aren’t sure or you’re planning to go the stretched natural route I say grow out the damage and when you get tired of it get it professionally cut. Also for the frizzy part of your hair (I have a part like that too) try doing smaller twists so you don’t have to separate as much or do a flat twist and don’t separate cuz that separation (at least for me) is the beginning of frizz lol
I have the same exact issue with the top of my hair being frizzy. And on top of that I have a lot of gray hair...IT IS SO STUBORN!!! I will be trying this style and using some perm rods. BTW I love your channel, keep doing you girl!
Girl, I feel the same way about my natural hair sometimes. She’s soo disrespectful. 😂 Not Al Sharpton and the Wendy Williams clip had me lol’d. Your hair came out soo pretty, love it! ❤🥰 Flat twists out used to be my favorite style when I went natural. 🔥🙌🏾
I'm hereeee!!! 💜💜 Chileeee this video title explains my hair so well. I have a bob but also and EXACTLY in the same phase. Will definitely have to try this style because honeyyyyyy, I could cry. 😭😂 Just made a reel the other day about how I was missing my hair after the 3rd cut. 😂😂 You're making it work honey!! Everything you said in this video has been my sentiment lately I swear. Every time I wash my hair, I be like GET THE REST OF THESE ENDS OFF NOW!! 😂😂 P.s. I can't get the freaking flat twists for nothing! I'm going to try again forreal though because yours looks so good!!
I am in the same boat, I cut my hair into a bob. And I love it straight but I don’t want heat damage and idk what to do with it + it makes me want to big chop. 😂 girl the struggle. 😅
I have a similar issue of frizziness with the front 2" border of my hair and I heard one hairstylist share that more product may be needed for areas that usually stay frizzy to help encourage better definition and retention of definition for the week. So I make sure to apply more of my topper gel in those stubborn sections and show a little more intentional focus while raking and smoothing those sections and it has worked for me.
girl, I LOVE YOUR videos - i have very similar hair texture and generally similar hair situation as you low porisity super curly and define and in the back - 4b ish super loose and wavy almost in the front with tons of frizz and some parts that will not get defined or will be defined for 1 day and that's it AND i think it's friction damage from brushing and combing my hair a lot in these areas ( especially for slick backs, buns ect..) i try to now only use a very gentle boar brush and reduce friction in those areas - i am seeing *some* result buts tbh hard to tell sharing in case it helps you!
Gurl I totally feel you on the next day hair frizziness. My 4c hair is only short to medium length but it's so darn thick. I can have a really good twist or braidout but once humidity hits its O-V-E-R! And the 2nd day never looks as good as the first 😢
I have the same annoying problem with the front left of my hair...I'm mostly 4a/4b, but that section is given 2a!!!!!! It's like the slightest wave! I remember when I first went natural it was super straight, wouldn't wave or curl at all...almost made me go back to relaxer...lol
Sis I feel u my hair behaves the same. I gave up on wash and go. I gave up on twistouts and braid outs. But puffs has always been loyal. And protective styling is my best friend. I may have to try the flat twist tho.
My hair is like 3 textures, the back is tight, middle loose and front is not holding any curls so I use flexi rods in the front every other night sometimes and always do a quick and easy updo or halfway style! I may have heat damage too but my front has always been really loose! Soon I'm getting crochet , then I may get it straightened out and cut a lot off in the front layered bangs! May add a rinse color chestnut or copper!
My hair has areas of frizz too. I thought it had broken off but a hair stylist looked at it and said it was fine. I’m a wash n go girl so I just get heavy handed with gel on the frizzy parts and shingle the frizzy areas. Turns out nice
My hair does that shit and it’s infuriating…my hair is loc’d and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I can still enjoy my natural hair w/o the irritation. I know my Retwist will always look bomb.
Trader Joe's has this peppermint shampoo & conditioner that will tingle you all the way right 🤣🤣🤣 I love it so much which I use once a month to really clarify my scalp. The twist out turnt out so good Jess maybe you should keep rocking it to avoid more damage. It's so pretty 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Lol you are so funny “side eyeeee” sorry babe I’m here for hair & bae videos. You can also do like grwm or cleaning/ organizing videos , I’d def watch those, with good voiceovers
Yasss curls! 😍😍 Maybe you can see a dermatologist to see if it’s anything else that is affecting your body/scalp/hair. I had some changes and just had to learn to accept it.
Hey Jess 👋💜 How about you explore a keratin treatment with me🥰 I feel like with the frizz and climate it would be a good option instead of another big chop🤷🏾♀️ let me know what you think
I would say loc journey but you're not ready. The frizz alone would have you stressed. But loc's will give you patience and appreciation of life outside of your hair.
OMG we are one in the same. I cut my hair into a bob in November, my hair is heat damaged in the front. Prior to pressing on a regular basis I struggled with frizz. I am now considering a big chop but just doing twist outs, braid outs (with blue perm rods), and bantu knot outs until I build the courage to BC... but idk if I am going to do it myself or go to a natural salon.
It’s funny I’m going through the same thing !!! The front of my hair does the same thing. Wash n gos NEVER was for me. I always do more braid outs but I stopped for a while and started straightening. I just chopped off damaged hair and did mini twists I’m chilling lol. Omg I was going to ask you how you deal with Miami weather with natural hair that’s why I started watching you !
Wigs/Braids to take a break. That’s why I’m doing I’m in the same boat but my hair thinned because of postpartum shedding and looks just like yours now. Cut into a bob to get rid of thin ends and the roots are growing in thick. Haven’t straightened in a couple months but want to. Like the straight but miss the curls. It’s tough spot to be in I get it😅😅 my top part in the middle has always been an issue too!!!! It’s crazyyyyy
When I was a loose natural, the front of my hair was a looser texture than the rest. So when I used to do wash n go’s I would have to coil those sections so to get them to curl curl. Also for flat twists, I had to make them smaller in the front too to get more definition. Maybe try that? 😅 As soon as I moved to FL tho, locs had to go in cause the frizz is ridiculous!!
I’m going through a hair crisis too😢 the front of my hairline is balding and it’s only terrible on one side of my head. It’s just gradually getting worse. I don’t wear wigs and don’t pull on my hair but it’s thinning. I have no idea why or what to do
I feel the same way with my hair…it’s natural but has a little color/heat damage but before then she was still disrespectful only clocking in for 2 days out the week after hours of styling and refreshing. A silk press last a little longer but that’s when I’m paying top dollar. And plus I love the look of natural styles. I’m really flirting with the idea of micro/sisterlocs….I just need it to look like my loc crushes or it’s a no for me.
