You’re such an inspiration man, I just started skating again this last September after 10 years because my 13 year old wanted to learn to ride a skateboard. I thought I was getting too old (I’m 31) until I stumbled across your channel and decided to give it a go. My wife passed away in October wich left me with 3 kids and an inability to work (I do construction all over several states) at this point Im going out skating almost every day and to be honest with how hectic life has been; if I didn’t have skateboarding I’m not sure I would have it in me to deal with everything going on. It probably sounds ridiculous but to some random guy watchin your videos; you have made an impact and given me inspiration to just keep goin. Thank you and I hope you have a great Father’s Day man
RU-vid tries to bury ol Ben in my notifications on both his carpentry channel and skate channel so yea here's a "stickin it to the man" comment for support. Thanks for the vids Ben
You're so good and hard working it's inspiring. And I don't mean just at skateboarding. Literally helping a lot of people out of sheer goodness. You deserve every good thing going for you. Thanks for the knowledge.
i bought a 8.25 sean malto pop secret and it was my best board yet. lasted me about 3 months and no break, just got worn down and bad razor tail. but as a board breaker, this one was awesome and will probably buy another in the future when they restock them. rn i'm on my first FA board and so far so good
So heartening to see such a seasoned skater as yourself go through a similar process as me (a beginner) when learning new stuff! Not skating right now due to a rolled ankle (ollied my first stair set, a 3 stair, and my foot slipped off the board), so skate videos are the next best thing. Thank you for the content Ben!
Out of all your videos this content is the one I've enjoyed the most. A quality session, bails included and some other locals for variety. Pure skating, great seeing you having so much fun.
It’s so cool how intelligent you are and how you can pick up on the smallest details and their advantages and disadvantages. I am also glad I DONT have that talent cause if I did, I would be very picky about what I skate hahaha
Man, that second switch frontside flip on the quarter was so nice! And your pop out of the bank looked really explosive. I feel like you progress noticeably from video to video. Really inspiring.
Same, this is actually the first time it’s supposed to be heavy and I’m on my third board now. I only ride carbon reinforced boards tho, so could be that just all of them are heavier.
Ahhh, nothing like chilling with a fresh Ben Degros video after the Skatepark 🔥😎🔥 Think I'll probably stay away from these decks, I'm under 200lbs. so no need, but nice to know what they are... Don't know what kind of board I'll get next, probably whatever the skate shop has that's 8.25" and looks wicked good, but after that I've got a Hook-Ups I'm gonna rock 😍 Cheers Ben 🔥👍🔥
Got the same pop secret shape I thought it was kind of heavy too especially on my venture lows But it’s really fun when you get used to it Switch flip ankle flick needs a little more effort definitely…God bless!
switch fs flip the qp looked super tight! bruh just think youre coming back in switch after a switch frontside flip on that quarter pipe and in my opinion that is harder than going the full 360 and coming back in reg. You were popping a few high enough ones that u for sure had enough hangtime to go thefull 360! if its too trippy staying in the air with the full 360 do it with a pivot and try the switch fs 360 flip! U deffffffinitely can if u committed for sure they were high
Great Vid Ben!! And that switch f flip was super styled, amazing !! Liam skate so good but he forgot to watch your vids saying what wheels to chose if you dont want flatspots. Thanks Ben:💪🍪🍪
I know. He gave the weight, but I'm so unfamiliar with how much decks weigh I don't understand what that difference in weight really means. Like at what point do you start noticing a difference? I've been skating old school shapes, so I wouldn't even notice.
Will you break your ankle jumping down stairs if you land incorrectly on the tail where a normal deck would snap on the nose middle or tail you know what I mean?!?
@@Bpepper74 Why thank you!!! I used to watch your part in that old transworld video all the time. The one at Napa park. I was always trying to figure out your frontside flips and nollie heels out of the bowl at the end. I also remember seeing you at slam city jam in 95 or 96. I also had the transworld with your interview in it too. I'm stoked you like the videos:)
@@bendegros Thank you sir, You and your little brother RIP! I mean seriously GAWT DAM SON your little bro's videos on youtube wheewwww His strange brew part is really exceptional!
Seems as if u got maybe the misses behind the camera an if so she isn't bad filming at all. But u can totally tell its the misses by the way u smile an look at the camera or actually who's behind it rather it seems like ur happier when she's there filming haha its good to see
I found the standard girl decks to be heavy as it is. I came from DLX decks that are fairly light and skate them all on thunder standards. I really like the girl shape and concave, but find that they are not quite as snappy as DLX wood. I still get height off my tricks, but it takes more effort. I have also lost varial flips and varial heels as well as flip trick 180 variations. I’m hoping that switching to Thunder hollow lights will correct the issue. I’ve been doing a lot of experimenting in finding the ideal skate setup where I never have to switch. Wonder if this pairing will work.
Still can’t get over the weight of mine, set it up over 6months ago and skated for a whole month and couldn’t get it to feel normal, I do a lot of flat flip tricks and rails/ledge skating
Honestly really liked the board but every skateboard that I skate any board the nose always gets smashed and am trying to find a board that has a reinforced nose and tail any suggestions?
IYO I occupy primitive boards of 8.125, but I don't like that they have a tail smaller than the nose. What decks do you recommend that are the most even tail/nose. Great video btw. Thanks in advance
@@jaded777777 what didn’t you like and what do you like? I’m currently on a g26 and like it but may want a but more concave and bigger tail, but not sure.
@@rmhfpv9225 the tail on the G016 is insanely small. the board itself is 31.75 and the wheelbase is still 14.25. that extra 1/4 inch is taken OUT of the tail. so there's no "fingers of flat" whatsoever. combine that with how pointy the tail is and i found the pop to be horribly inconsistent. i had to do all of my tricks off the very tip of the tail and it felt wrong and uncomfortable the whole time. i ended up skating switch more than anything on this shape because i second guessed every single trick riding regular with that horrible tail.
@@rmhfpv9225 it did both of those horribly. maybe it's "my fault" for riding thunders on it but no other shaped board has made my flip tricks and especially 360 flips so bad.
My last board was an 8.25 pop secret and I liked the board but the concave was so gnarly I messed up my ankle bad landing a shuv down a set just because the pitch of the nose and tail
