There is a story on IMDb that the actress who played the mother of the boy killed by the shark several decades later went into a seafood restaurant and saw a sandwich on the menu called the "Alex Kintner sandwich." She had told someone that she was the actress who played the mother, the owner of the restaurant came out to meet with her and it was the boy who played Alex.

23:00 Oh no! You edited out one of the greatest monologues in cinema history. Quint speaking about the true story of the USS Indianapolis is chilling and Robert Shaw, the actor, did such a great job delivering it. You should have given your fellow countryman the stage to convey that brilliantly delivered speech to your viewers.

The explosion heard around the world! The shark in the novel died from a harpoon to the belly. Steven Spielberg wanted a rousing ending. The shark was filled with squid, red paint, and dynamite. They only had one chance to get it right. The explosion went off perfectly and the whole theater cheered wildly. Jaws became the first summer blockbuster in history.

I live on the West Coast of Florida. Experts have said if you have gone swimming at any beach more than 5 times, in water up to 5 ft. deep, you have been close to a shark and probably didn't know it. Now with remote controlled drones, many videos are available showing people frolicking in the water with sharks swimming between them and shore. On our Honeymoon in 1997, my wife and I were walking on the beach early in the morning. A couple of women were looking for seashells and found a baby shark (approx. 8 inches in length ) in a tidal pool. One of the ladies picked it up and as they were examining it, the shark turned it's head and bit a perfect 1 inch semi-circle out of the woman"s hand in an instant. It's tiny teeth were razor sharp...

I grew up in Bradenton and spent a large chunk of the 70s-80s in the water around Anna Maria Island. 1 of my coolest memories was catching baby hammerheads (6 of them, all about 12-16 inches long) right off the beach and throwing them in the tidal pools. We fileted, fried, and ate 5 of them and we turned 1 loose back into the Gulf. My dad always told me there weren't any Great Whites in the Gulf, it wasn't until years later that I found out that was a nice lie he told just to reassure me.

My favorite parts of the movie were not involving the shark, but the scenes between Mrs. Kintner slapping poor Chief Brody, to the next scene where a now depressed Martin Brody is at the dinner table, while his young son is mimicking his every move. NGL this movie is actually part of the reason I'm glad I have a semi-allergy to water. I can't swim, go out in the rain, even bathing, showering and crying are painful tasks that lead to swelling and itchiness. I have to make sure to take an antihistamine and have a steroid ointment for my body i have to rub on after every shower. But its not a true allergy because I can ingest water just fine. Its just when it makes contact with my skin and it doesnt matter the type of water. As I said, even my own tears and sweat cause a reaction.

14:00 Liala's explanation of the two positions on whether to close the beaches on the biggest tourist day of the year is what policymakers deal with in any emerging disaster situation. As we saw in 2020, the urge is usually to think doing anything is better than doing nothing, but it's not always true. The reality is that there's always sharks in the water, but some sharks are more dangerous than others.

This was the first giant shark movie. Up until this movie sharks in tv shows and movies were dolphin sized so lot of people were surprised that great whites could get 17 to 20 feet long and had been reported to be bigger. My dad had a fishing boat out of Oceanside Ca. and following this movie scared but curious people payed me to take them out to try and see one. Fortunatly I'd found a 17 foot female that hung around San Clemente island who obliged me by showing up several times.

2:35 "Past a certain hour, I wouldn't be going into the ocean." Good idea. Sharks are more active and usually feed at night. That said, swimming in the ocean at night raises your odds of a shark attack from something like 1 in Ten Million to 1 in Five Million, so there still isn't much to worry about. (I made up those statistics but whatever the real ones are, mine aren't too far off - getting attacked by a shark is about as rare as being struck by lightning.)

This film was HUGE when it was released just in time for the summer in 1975. It is considered to be the first "blockbuster" film. People actually didn't want to go into the ocean - it had such an impact on beachgoers. The man who was the reporter on the beach is Peter Benchley - the author of the book this film was based on. The story Quint tells about the S.S. Indianapolis when they are all together drinking is a true story. The film holds up pretty well - I love seeing how people react to this because I find that they react the same way people reacted back in 1975. All the thrills and scares are still working - that is the mark of really good storytelling and a really great film. I wish you could have seen this on a big screen. It was amazing at the theater - filled with screaming people. So much fun!

16:19 Here, we have one of the dangers that Sheriff Brody didn't foresee. He figured he could rely on shark spotters. He figured _they_ could watch the water, and if they spotted a shark, they could spread the word and the people would just get out of the _water._ Now if human beings were predisposed to reason, this might've _worked,_ but we're not. When we become aware that we are in mortal danger that we're not trained to handle, we panic. We scramble. People get hurt. Sometimes, they end up dead.

The male reporter on the beach is the author of the book and screenwriter Peter Benchley. Stephen Spielberg named the main animatronic shark Bruce after his lawyer. The Jaws sequels are not very good and not worth pursuing, Liala. The "Jaws 3-D" film is laughable. There are like four or five films. As a matter of fact, the bicycle shop we all rented from was briefly shown in the scene where the tourists arrive for the Fourth of July holiday. It really is a beautiful place (at least it was when I was there in the 70s).

In the novel, Matt Hooper has an affair with Brody's wife and he dies in a similar manner as Quint. And although I'm not sure if they determine Quint's branch or service in the movie, in the novel he was a Marine, of whom there would have been some assigned on the USS Indianapolis during that historic night.

There are a total of 4 Jaws movies and Jaws knockoffs or similar shark movies like “Deep Blue Sea” and “The Meg 1 and 2”. Most viewers/audiences generally like the original Jaws and its second sequel best. After the Jaws 2 sequel most people feel that 3rd and 4th jaws movies fail to be as good as the first 2 Jaws movies for various reasons for various reasons.

14:00 You're almost there. This is a summer town. These shops and hotels and restaurants, and, well, everybody here, make all their money in the summer. If they close beaches and put up signs about sharks, every tourists go to other beaches. Even when they reopen them, it's too late, everybody went somewhere else. it's also the 4th of July weekend (Independence Day, sorry about that mate!) which is the biggest summer holiday of the year. Losing that income will literally bankrupt some of the small businesses in town. People their business, employees lose their jobs, everybody is losing income, can't pay their bills so they lose their homes, etc. it would be a guaranteed financial disaster. On the other hand, since sharks don't behave like this, he really has no reason to close the beaches. It's been a couple days since the last attack. all those sharks are miles away by now and there are no more sharks out there, so why make the town go bankrupt?

There are 4 films in the franchise, but in all honesty, only the second film is worth seeing cos it continues with Brody's family ; his kids are older and the older one has water trauma cos of the events of the previous film, and of course, he gets stranded with his friends in open water. Hardly a spoiler alert, cos what the hell else could happen in a shark movie, lol. The 3rd film was shot in 3D so all the attention went on that "trendy" technology (at the time) rather than decent story. The final film is even worse for horrible story ; the damn shark makes a conscious effort to follow the protagonist to gets it "revenge" (hence the title, Jaws : The Revenge).

There are ripoffs of this movie that came out with sharks like The Meg and The Meg 2: The Trench. A non shark based Jaws ripoff movie I know of is 1980’s Alligator which was really entertaining though the 91 minute runtime is the main flaw while watching it.

Hey Liala! Shout Out from the US Marine Corps! I don't want to be rude or anything but how could you edit out the best part of the movie when Robert Shaw talks about the USS Indianapolis?! That's based on a true story where 1300 men went into the water and only about 350 men came out and the Sharks took the rest June 30th 1945! In the movie he says June 29th. So I dunno if it happened on June 29th but history says the 30th. Do you know that Robert Shaw actually tried to act out that scene drunk a few times?! But he was so drunk he couldn't get it right so one day he tried it sober and nailed it! Anyways great reaction to the head scene at night with the boat w/ the hole in the bottom! It gets everyone! Love your reactions! Keep them up! All the other JAWS movies suck. 2 is decent for 1 watch but the rest are Terrabad!

It is best to think of Jaws as a complete and total stand alone movie.... while there are movies with Jaws in the title followed by ascending numbers, they are not worth finding... similar to Highlander.

Jaws 2 is worth a watch. Second best shark movie ever. Scheider is as good as he is in Jaws, as are Lorraine Gary and Murray Hamilton. Some well directed scenes and another excellent score by John Williams. Its a decent film in its own right, was very successful and a big deal when it came out. 3 and 4 are best forgotten.
