'Girls State' Directors Talk About the Surprising Differences Between Girls State and Boys State 

Four years after Jesse Moss and Amanda McBaine brought “Boys State” to Sundance, they’re back at the festival with “Girls State,” filmed at Missouri’s edition of the annual gathering - which, for the first time ever, took place on the same campus as that year’s Boys State. Moss and McBaine explain at the IndieWire Studio presented by Dropbox how holding the two events side by side resulted in the gendered inequities of the two events to be laid bare, resulting in some protest from the Girls State participants.
