Why is no one talking about Daniel Martinez? He was working on the front for over a KM for Bernal on one of the steepest parts of the climb and still finished the stage ahead of every GC contender except yates (and obviously Bernal), respect to him.
Thank you...the helo shots , and the on screen graphics with the history of the architecture were tremendous. Truly. And the commentary was the best, as usual!
Spectacular! But only fireworks on the very last kms. GC guys have to save a little for monday's queen stage. Nice to see Yates back on top. Going to be a vintage Giro.
Contador video : instagram.com/tv/CPLfd4yqImD/? The hardest part for Contador is knowing he could still win a stage like this.. If he was training obvs
Remco learning how it is to play with the big boys now...Yes I know he just came back from an injury which has a big part to play in it but it might take longer than most Belgians think before he wins a Grand Tour. Beating a Bernal, Roglic or Pogacar won't be easy...
Agree it won't happen this year but it could be next year. It will depend how he improves himself and how of other teams choices of leaders for each Grand Tour
@@fastercyclist4657 your probably right, there is so many moutain stages in the giro this year so he cant lose too much on TT. Especially the coming stages are very exciting.
Remco is in a bad spot also because Almeida didn't help him, no matter if the Portuguese fanboys claim otherwise. Look at how strong and compact is the Ineos team in protecting and helping Egan and how embarrassing as a teammate was Joao. Good riddance to Almeida next season when he leaves Deceunink QuickStep because he doesn't have the qualities of an elite GC rider as we've seen last year!
No talk of the fact that the race was nearly destroyed by some fool of a fan "or so called fan" shoulder charging the winner and nearly taking him out not to mention the fact that they may also infect riders with Covid which could put some riders out for finishing race
Pretty sure that was Ivan Basso, one of the team's main investors, or maybe he's just a perfect look-a-like. Still stupid getting too excited and almost knocking off his own rider.
Thanks, as always, for the highlights GCN. Gotta point out though. You mean "historic" in this situation. Historical is something that has happened earlier in Giro history.
Remco obviously doesn’t have the legs right now, that’s twice Almeida (the better GC rider) waited for him and Remco whined about it. Also there is no such thing as help going up 20% gradient.
Can you point us to something where Remco is whining? I have not seen any verbiage where he has done this. All I read was he had said his team members ought to go for their own stage wins now...
Jean Holt ..throwing his ear pierce down on the gravel stage and visibly showing frustration today, you don’t have to say a word to look like a whiner.
Almeida lost 4 minutes in the very first days. From then Remco has been considered the leader of DQS. Almeida should stay with Remco without even been asked. That's what he's paid for
The fact that Remco is not happy about being left behind is quite normal since he was in a good position before his leg failure. He is above all angry and disappointed with his legs which are failing him, nothing to do with his teammates. He is under pressure and doesn't want his teammates to waste their Giro on him if he can't meet the objectives. Removing his earpieces often comes with frustration and to be able to focus on his effort when the rider is in trouble
That's the beauty of cycling, today defeat, but tomorrow or the day after tomorrow win, this sport give you rematch every day. Greetings from Colombia. I like Vlasov
@@dclark142002 end of the day his were the legs that gave out, if he was on a better day or simply as strong as Bernal its irrelevant, can't really blame the team bcos he couldn't keep up
@@aaronsimpson1167, thats not how team cycling works. Your team is supposed to protect you by riding at the speed that delivers you to the final climb fresh. There was NO REASON for Astana to be driving the peloton today. All it did was weaken them and strengthen Ineos. Perhaps Astana did it out of stupidity...but given the pattern developing where Astana OFTEN acts as an extension of Ineos...I suspect that Astana is being compensated in some way for the effort.
Why is no one talking about Fortunato nearly pushed off by a fan in the last 1-2 km? I’ve haven’t seen it live because I have to sleep (in Australia) but I seen it on the highlights just now and surprisingly no one mentioned about it. Not just Fortunato himself but the same fan with different riders in one group. I’ve seen it in SBS.
Yeah I agree to much hype for someone so young , clearly he is mega talented , fans just get so Carried away You wonder if they have ever done a bike race
Can someone explain to me what Astana was thinking??? Why would you burn everyone before the final ride while INEOS had 5 up front and your leader gwts dropped??? Astana making Movistar looking like tactical geniuses today🤦🏾🤦🏾🤦🏾.. Knucklehead award winner for sure...
I think it's kind of lame that the break away isn't getting caught in 80% of stages so far. Like the battle for GC is just going to be soft pedaling for 90% of every single stage pretty soon and all the GC favorites will finish 20 minutes down everyday in the third week...
Not really 80% but it doesn't matter, whether the break away is caught or not doesn't change the battle for the GC, which will still be AT the end of the stage. Teams who fight for GC can't controle every stages to try to win them. And it's nice to see riders from break away attacking each other and trying to resist against the peloton in the past stages
@@superdark813 seems like ineos is the only team riding that can control anything during this giro. Bora tried and failed. Astana failed. It just seems way less competitive/boring compared to I don't know...
@@linglingjr there used to be less control in Giro than in TDF but I agree this year most of main leaders don't have a strong enough team to control exceptes maybe INEOS
The worst thing at this years Giro is that we are missing Carlton Kirby. The commentary on Eurosport by the other guys might be very knowledged and very detailed, but the have no bloody clue what the viewer wants to listen to. Just being an Ex-pro obviously doesn't qualify you as a commentator. Can we have Carlton back, please?
@@juanorregochannel5678 to be honest, i want Bernal to win to silence the critics of his TdF victory... I was just saying it'd be quite the spectacle if roles of Ineos V Yates are reversed
Great tour so far. I'd like to drop a piece of advice to all those that do not hold a valid racing license. Stop riding on the big ring. It's not hard, it's not cool and will F up your rear mech. Buy a $100 steel road bike to train on, 42 x 17 fixed.
Absolutely nothing like that lol only a team which tried to make things move but who was finally weaker than INEOS and with a leader without goods legs at the end of the stage
@@superdark813, Astana has demonstrated a pattern of working directly for Sky leaders in past Grand Tours. I agree that if this was a one-off, I would just chalk it up to Movistar level stupidity. But it's not...this is at least half a dozen major stages in the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia where Astana has obviously worked for the Sky or Ineos leader in the last few years. I guess this is just more evidence of the 'marginal gains'. If I was Vlasov, I would be pissed.
@@dclark142002 no one was able to win this Giro. Dumoulin was less than one minute behind but he hadn't legs and all others were 5min+ behind. Nothing could have change the winner of this Giro in this stage. And Astana leader finished 3rd so there strategy was quite good
Hope DQT gives Joao Almeida the freedom he deserves for next stages. Strange not hearing no even one comment about the need of having Joao Almeida helping in this stage. Who knows anything about cycling knows that for climes above 15% and it the end of the stage, each rider needs to go in his pace any help from a colleague does not make a big difference. DQT only made Almeida, loosing more time with this "strategy". AGAIN HOPE ALMEIDA GETS HIS FREEDOOM FROM NOW ON. Would be good to see them privilege sport on other kind of interests
I agree that Almeida should get freedom from now, but were in the DQT car ? Are you sure that it was a team decision ? It was a normal decision to protect the rider in the best GC position during past days but now it should be different if DQT wants to win something during this Giro
I called it several days ago. Pathetic field = breakaway wins every day. I love bike racing but let us admit it. Breakaway wins are boring. This Giro is a stinker
@@superdark813 People say that over and over but no one really believes it. We want to see the best riders in the world suffering. That is entertainment. No one cares about these mediocre breakaway riders. We might as well go watch some kindergarten kids race with training wheels. This Giro is a joke
@@alechull4300 lol ”pathetic break away rider" I will stop answer to you I lose my time if you can’t see the achievement of participating at a giro and be able to fight for a stage win
As is the norm these days - racing is nullified until the last few kms of the stage, especially if it's a summit finish. Makes it boring to watch until last few kms. Ditch radios and power meters and let's get back to proper racing on feel and instinct.
