I found another two special cases, but this is much more related to Google one is, with JavaScript we can do advanced raster(specially) and vector(optional) analysis two is, with python with geopandas, TenserFlow and etc we can do machine learning aided analysis on geo data with visualization and all (included support with google earth engine as well)

GIS professionals (or students) don't accept low pay jobs in GIS. I see companies offering less than $20 bucks an hour for GIS position - come on, one can make more than $20 waiting on tables.

How about your own navigation system? what kind of programming language will allow you to build it ?

is it reasonable that job posts lists all or many of these technologies as requirements? sometimes they asks for a whole team not just one position.

Is this something for a seasoned programmer or is it something a rookie can dive into?
@GeoMindzcom

I think it absolutely something you can get involved with if you have no previous programming experience. When I taught GIS programming at the university it was usually to students that had no previous programming experience. The videos on the Wolfram Language I posted to this channel assume no experience. The playlist for the seminar starts here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vM-9dQdhFdU.html I have some introductory videos on Python that I am going to bring out on the channel soon too.

what about django in back end web?
@GeoMindzcom
@GeoMindzcom 5 лет назад
That is a great question. I know nothing about django. I hope that I am going to be able to get back to doing some GeoMindz video soon, so I might have to look into it. BUT, I will say that when I was in the GIS area intensely, I never heard anyone talk about it or ask for it as a job requirement. That is why I never really looked at it. But, that also does not mean that things are not changing today. Maybe it is something people are looking for more now. I don't know.

thanks Can you tell me the steps to be a gis web developer? What do I learn and what skills I need and so on?
@GeoMindzcom
@GeoMindzcom 5 лет назад
@@hassanelfeky6572 That is a complicated question to answer in a RU-vid comment. This video was a pretty good start though. Maybe I will get to talk more about it in future videos. But, my general advice is to first find out what can be done "off the shelf". If Google Maps can easily do what you need, for instance, there is no need to set up a complicated custom solution. First, know what is "out there" and is easy, before you start working on something hard.

what about "JAVA SE"

I know very very little about JAVA SE and that wasn't one that came up when I was working or when I was a professor.

Quite a bit of Open Source GIS middleware is written in Java like JTS, GeoTools, GeoServer, and GeoWebCache so knowing Java can allow for using or altering them in deeper ways. I'd also recommend against PHP it really is just a horrible language, especially for anything where reliability or security is important. You'd already recommended Python for automating desktop GISes and it is also a far better language for web back end than PHP. I favour Java and Ruby myself but Python is probably a better recommendation for your target audience. Of course take my advice with a grain of salt as I'm a developer on GeoTools/Server/WebCache so I'm a bit biased.

I wouldn't bother getting into GIS if you don't want to be a programmer. You will need to be able to program for most low level jobs nowadays.
@GeoMindzcom
@GeoMindzcom 5 лет назад
I think that is very true, especially if you are interested in anything that has to do with the web. But even for basic analysis, begin able to automate analytical tasks with scripting is big.

@@GeoMindzcom yeah that's all I do now. Plus nobody wants to sit for hours doing repetitive tasks.
