Purchased this in 2021 as the only other actions cameras of similar quality are now £150+. The market is flooded with cheap 4K actions cameras where the footage looks like its from a 90's digital camera. Would love to see some more reviews of action cameras on this channel.
With all those features it looks like they have been viewing you channel and have been guided by your suggestions from other camera reviews. Entertaining and informative - as always :)
Just bought one and it works great, I tried it out as a dash cam and the wide angle, sound and picture quality is great, I also attached it to an RC off road truck and the video quality is great and very stable, I will try out on a mountain bike next and then a drone and under water, the case looks very well made. It is great quality for a bargain price
Bought this camera based on your review of the Git1. Sounds like I got a winner. Excited to get it now. Like your bit with the puppets at the end. I hope this trend continues with you videos.
Fabulous review of a great all round camera. You're channel is so special. Thank you. Get that bike out! We we're out on the K1600 last Saturday even though we managed to find the only rain.....In Grasmere! Lol. It's such a shame what the folk have gone through with the floods so was happy to support them even though we got wet.
I watched all of your videos many times and think that this is THE BEST ''no name'' brand action cam. I just bought one. Needed camera to use for motorcycle as well as dash cam, with external mic, extra battery and Gyro, this has it all.
Thanks Techmoan, I just bought one for $70 used and it came with two extra batteries and a charger and I gotta say, this is a really nice camera. Thanks for your commitment to making these videos
I purchased one of these brand new with the enteral mic and wrist controller after watching your review. I'm extremely impressed with the quality of the camera itself as well as the accessories and fittings that come with it! Personally, I now use it is a helmet camera for when I'm out riding because of too many run-ins and close calls on the road and I have to say, it does it brilliantly. I'm not sure if it's quite the same quality as say a go-pro hero 4, but at £102 all in, it's miles better value! Thanks for the informative review, it was a massive aid in helping me decide on choosing in the sea of action cameras that now exist!
I hate how many other "brands" advertise their shitty cameras for almost exact price. So when someone asks me which camera shou he buy, I always tell them that GitUp and nothing else. Oh, BTW - image rotation is now added to firmware v1.6.
+TheSwithy mounts brilliantly with the provided 3M sticky pads and mounts included yes! Just be sure to clean your lid thoroughly with something like rubbing alcohol first just to be sure there is a perfectly clean mounting surface - this obviously applies to any brand at all, not just the git 2 haha
Just bought one - cos I TRUST your reviews. It seems to be a regular forget: sandpaper the touching faces of knuckle joints, cos they come out of the box too shiny and don't tighten too well.........................??
4k is one of the biggest marketing ploys in a while. The truth is, most people are still watching on either 720p or 1080p, and that is the way it will be for a few years still. I am one of the few people I know, that have a Quad HD(1440p) screen, and that is my phone's screen. Most people will be fine with something like this, that seems to do 1080p and 1440p just fine. Great video. I am really considering purchasing this camera, because of your video. I've been looking for something to replace my very outdated GoPro HD Hero 2, that doesn't cost too much. I'm not just cheap, I go on mission trips a lot, and therefore don't have much money to spare.
After looking at all the non GoPro action cams, I have to agree this is up near the top of the pile. Especially for the price. But, I've gone for the GIT2 with Panasonic sensor/90 degree lens. No fish eye distortion is a big plus, and together with the external mic this should be a handy adjunct to my Nikon L820 for YT production. The lens is physically longer, so it will not fit in the hard case housing (unless you remove the lens cover), but that's a minor issue for non water related activities. Should be very interesting to see how it performs. Existing video reviews suggest it's pretty damn good. Cheers Rob
How has the Git2 with the 90 degree lens been working for you? I've been wondering if it's worth pulling the trigger for a portable vlog rig, and as a B cam for my GoPro vlog setup.
Informative and funny, as always. Love the little extra clip too. Keep up the good work. I've bought stuff as a result of your videos - never been disappointed. Big thumbs up
Hello Techmoan. Based on your review, I bought this cam, it cam pre-installed with v1.6 which has the additionals you asked for. I recently mounted the cam on my motorcycle right behind the wind shield, using a Ram Mount system. This reduces most vibrations and wind noise, while the gyro produces an even more rock solid recording. Before my ride I changed a few settings: 1080p 30fps, mic level normal, white balance daylight, EV +1/3, color vivid, gyro on, WDR on, FOV narrow angle. My ride under cloudy sky, the image was a bit dark due to the set white balance, but as soon as the sun came through, it was spot on. Afterwards I did put color back to normal as the recordings were just a bit too saturated. Viewing the original recordings, it's all perfect. After editing into one mpg-video, the quality still is perfect, but the mp4-video needed for upload (by RU-vid laws) has some image faults (blocks, soft sharpness and discoloration) probably caused by the much lower bitrate (12Mbps vs 30Mbps). Concluding: great cam despite the user unfriendly menu. See my video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ilf_1ihboXE.html
I joined the forums at GitUps website and they took on board my suggestion to drop the screen timeout down to 15 seconds, i'd like 2seconds or 5 seconds but at least that will be a massive improvement.
When you posted the review on the first one I went and found their web site and found they offered the Git2. I ordered mine with remote, mic and then on ebay I grabbed a charger that charges 2 batteries at once and 2 extra batteries. I love it, I can buy almost 3 of these compared to a GoPro.
Great review and the final is so funny! In January firmware they will add another function for remote control which will not turn off the camera when pressing the Power button from remote, but will stop the the actual recording. When pressing the Shutter button it will only start the recording if is not already started and this is good if you are not sure the camera is recording because is mounted in some position you cannot see, so from time to time just press the shutter button and based on number of the beeps you are hearing you will know what is doing the camera in that moment. Will be available also 1440p as 4:3 format, requested by some people which want to create 360 degrees videos.
+HD2You They don't hang around. It's great if you like your camera to gain new features over time....but it also means that this review will be out of date soon.
Techmoan I think they can not add any important features from now. But is nice to see that the new features are based on some users requests so they care about their customers and this is a big plus for me. Of course, after the Gyro feature. ;-)
+Techmoan You said it was the same dimensions as a gopro, can you elaborate on this, will it fit gopro cases then? I doubt it I think you mean just the gymbals and stuff
+CyclingSalmon14 I can't elaborate as that's all I know. Apparently it's the same size as one of the GoPro generations and therefore it fits into some of the accessories designed for that model - perhaps an owner of both devices could elaborate.
Great vid and very helpful! Much thanks for covering everything. I really appreciated the fact that you tested most of the features extensively and even showed us the individual settings.
I have actually watched this video several times over the past week or so. Been thinking about picking up an action cam, but GoPro is outside what I am willing to spend at this time. From the presentation here, I have decided to take the plunge and order one of these, along with a couple of extra batteries + charger and of course an external mic. If not for this video, I doubt I would have found this little kit. Will update once it arrives and I have a chance to try it out. Thanks Techmoan! You have earned a new subscriber.
Ooh! I like the fact that you can quickly turn the stabilisation on and off! I do have a gimbal, but find that it vibrates a lot still when motorcycle mounted. I'm keen to see how this stabilisation works when bike mounted. Ah. I didn't guess the city but as a Beatles fan, I have been to Liverpool, including the famous Matthew Street of course! It certainly comes packed with features for that price! Wow! Did they end up adding the camera rotate function? That's something I use quite a lot with my GoPro cameras on my motorbike and mountain bike. Awesome review mate!
As usual another great vid from you, i bought an sj4000 camera last year after you recommended it in one of your reviews, its still working great and has made some great action vids on my peddle bike, motorbike and car. keep up the great work Techmoan and thanks for the effort you put into all your vids. :-)
I just found your channel, and searched for a Gitup review from you since you clearly know your tech, Mr. Techmoan. I happen to have one, and for the price, I can say it's a very decent action camera if you can't afford (or just don't want to) a GoPro. Best chinese piece of tech I've bought besides a Huawei smartphone, I recommend it. The downsides are: The official app hasn't come out yet, and it has been a long time now. And it doesn't perform so well in low-light conditions (but I guess that's normal for most action cameras).
Thank you for such an in depth review. It has confirmed my opinion that this is a tremendous budget action camera. Especially for the mic in feature that is not often found on others it seems. Sound is the one feature that GoPro still leads in. And of course the video quality at this price point is making me want to buy it.
+Mirko Mueller I don't mention the price because it depends on where you live, what bundle you get and what year you watch this video. I made the mistake of mentioning prices in the early days of uploading videos, and I now receive messages daily from people telling me the price I quoted on a camera I reviewed in 2010 is wrong as apparently it's much cheaper now. Quelle surprise.
I see that the FoV can be varied, and presumably the crop in removes some of the pronounced barrel distortion. But if you shoot with the reduced FoV and film with stabilisation turned on, does it crop into the image even further?
I bought the Git 1 based on your review, great camera and the low light is really good, ill be buying the git2 asap based on your review of it, thanks for the great reviews.
To be honest... This camera is awesome. You can't want more for a price like that. It is built very well, has almost too many functions (IP camera too!!), has quality chips unlike cameras with similiar prices. And also GitUp got nice technical support. So if you're into buying one of these, buy Git2. Or wait for next model, which I hope will be even more awesome.
Thanks for this video. The wifi option is good not so much for remote control, but for getting the camera angel right when mounted on the side of a helmet.
I love you reviews, I love your voice and the time you spend in your video, and off course I love this camera that I ordered 1 week ago from Gearbest, I hope it will arrive soon
There s no option for dashcam upside - down video because of the Sony sensor limitation. It s not that developers forgot, the Sony sensor in it doesn t " allow " it. For dashacm use, from what I ve learned, use skeleton mount and screw included ( I think) in the pro package. Compaired to the Sjcam M10 Plus u get more shrpness and details ( due to larger sensor) but also worse video in low light. The f ugly water case is compatible with a gopro 3 or 4, thus u can use microphone in through the mini usb port.
Hi Mat, couldn't find how to contact with a generic question. I ride my bike for 9 hours or so and currently use 2x Roadhawk Ride+ Cycle edition cameras front and back with 2 x 10,000 battery packs in a bar bag. When using waterproof leads supplied they effectively make the mikes useless. Can just hear loud cartoon but no voices. On helmet have a switched off Gopro Hero Session which is waterproof and records sounds but battery lasts 90 mins tops so have to have it on standby in case needed for an incident, but.... you know the rest. Is there a waterproof voice recorder with external mike that would fill the gap? Or even a gopro clone with extended battery facility that remains waterproof yet still records sound? I saw your review of the Git2, you are now my goto reviewer because you are so down to earth! Best Wishes, Claire
I had purchased the git 2 awhile ago. My git 2 camera suffered tremendously from hot/stuck pixels on every video I recorded with it. Many of the 10+ white hot pixels were flashing and in anything lower than optimal light condition they were very distracting. Seen reports of others having similar issues but I luckily got refund. Also, git 1 does generally have better low light ability due to it's sensor, making it a slight better option as a dash-cam. I'd of loved it without hot pixel issues, but as things stand I'll wait till the next generation of action cams and try again then.
+Visual Powers Hot pixels are being addressed, a newer firmware with a possibility to calibrate / remap the CMOS sensor will solve this problem for Git2's that are having this issue.
Cheers from a mystery mountain in the MO Ozarks. Great review thanks so much, helped me pull the trigger and buy. Looking forward to trying it out this weekend in on my quad-copter. “Quotes found on the internet are not always accurate.” - Abraham Lincoln
30fps or 24fps usage depends on what region you're going to use for playback, but more importantly it allows you to match the speed of other video from devices such as DSLRs. If you want a movie with more of an American cinema look you'd use 24fps...
Excellent review... I found the instructions that came with the camera rather limiting. If they wanted to add a feature to future camera development... a flip screen would be nice, so you can view what you are doing while doing selfie-type footage... although you can use the phone app to achieve something similar.
Great video man, very thorough..!!! I think this is the best alternative to GoPro.. Those SjCams cant keep up, especially when it comes to exposure, where, Git2 nails it.. Just recently found out about this cam, and I am thinking getting one for motovlogs, because of external mic option.. Also, I think this is the Best Buy action cam..
You do very good in-depth reviews, any chance you might do a review on the BulletHD biker pro cam in the future, no real good reviews on this camera yet.
I just subscribed to your channel because after looking at some reviews on action cam you have, I think you do a thorough and exhaustive work. My sincere congratulations. I have a cam Yi, but did doubt whether wait out the Yi 2 to buy this GIT2. What's your advice?
Very much enjoy the videos and reviews. My favorite site for the subjects covered !Wood it be interesting to review Trail Cams as they are now becoming quite popular here in my home town. Thanks...
Few questions/requests: 1.When you put the camera away for few days, does the battery die or not ? I got one of the SJ cams and they dies after few hours of lying down. 2. Can you make test of external microphone in this cam in helmet while riding bike, you know moto vlogging ? :) 3. Last one - does the remote indicates by flashing lights on it when battery dies ? Thanks!
This was a great review, I am looking at buying this to replace my GoPro, now I know it's not a GoPro but for the money it's still not bad and affordable.
Time to get this little git up and running. I was waiting for it and you didn't disappoint. Mwah ha :) I wonder what an extreme procrastinating fail video looks like?
