I recently brought a bow (c. 1805) by Francois Tourte for Premio Paganini 2021 First Prize winner violinist Giuseppe Gibboni to audition. Three takeaways: 1. The bow "feels heavy" but it's actually just 58 grams and is stunningly "easy to play"; 2. It significantly transforms the sound of the Stradivarius violin Giuseppe was playing and 3. Giuseppe believes there is "a whole world" behind the bow. What an amazing experience!
(Sincerest thanks to Paolo Petrocelli for allowing us the use of a beautiful, quiet room at the Walter Stauffer Academy in Cremona, Italy, and to Ms. Jingwan Guo who provided technical assistance with the editing of the final video.)
