Whenever I feel low, I tend to go back to what the little girl in me would do. Before the term ‘connecting with your inner child' was a well-known phenomenon - I always found peace in painting, crafting, reading, but also being outside. I remember in Suriname I enjoyed helping my grandpa building things from scratch. He was a really talented gifted man. He would build picnic tables, fishing rod you name it. One time we needed a bat for a game we call ‘slagbal’. It’s a mix between baseball and tennis. You throw the ball up like tennis and hit the ball with a bat. It’s played on a “selfmade baseball field” and pretty much the same baseball rules applied. Only thing is that you can also throw the ball at one of the batting team's runner. And that’s why you play this game with a tennis ball 🎾 lol. The bat is almost like a cricket bat 🏏 My grandpa made us a slagbal bat. He was a great gardener as well. From peppers to bitter leaves to long beans. There I was helping placing teepees (crisscross sticks) for the long beans to scramble on.
I always find comfort watching animation movies. Always has and always will. I’m a big fan of the old- the ‘Lion King’ and also a big fan of the new ‘Soul’. But what I grow to love is Anime- the ‘kimi ni todoke (from me to you)’, the ‘From up poppy hill’.. I do watch all the anime in their native language with subtitles of course. For some reason I feel more connected to the characters. These are just a few things I do to give importance to my innerchild.
