'Give me a kiss and better dementia care' Barbara Windsor tells PM

Dame Barbara Windsor has delivered a letter to the Prime Minister on the behalf of the Alzheimer's Society, asking him to address the 'devastating state' of dementia care in the UK.
The Prime Minister said that reforming the dementia care system is a "big old job" but he will do his best.
The 82-year-old EastEnders and Carry On actress, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2014, held the prime minister's hand in the Downing Street garden after delivering the letter signed by 100,000 people.
Sky News spoke to her husband, Scott Mitchell.

I nursed my wife at home because she didn't want to die in hospital.She died in my arms. This man is a good man that loves his wife. 👍 👍 👍 👍

I think Scot is doing a real good job with Barbra he seems to be a really good husband putting Barbra first as this illness progresses he do what he feels is right for her

Scott doesn’t have to do this, he’s a Godsend, him and babs have plenty of money to cope with this horrible dementia yet he is fighting for us who don’t have the money, God continue to bless this man, and his wife, xxx

He looks after his wife too ,seeing her deteriorate before his eyes ,yet he continues.If she needed to go into a home though it is nothing to be ashamed of ,the man cannot be driven to madness ,he is indeed amazing.

Her character what cheeky one she was ,screen would light up with her presence and that laugh...... Grew up watching all the carry ons gosh heartbreaking.... great memories of a time long lost where there was love and respect for everyone ... We were taught to respect our elders not to swear use manners ... nowadays parents are not doing what our parents did... Education starts at home ...

I work in a dementia unit and I constantly repeat and answer questions all the time and I wouldn’t have it any other way, they can’t help it so don’t get mad at them🥺

What an amazing person As I work in a hospital, there is no bigger privilege in working with people living with a dementia; their families and carers also need care and support along their journeys. I was in the process of joining Alzheimer's Society as a volunteer, to raise awareness, but then we went into lockdown. As soon as I can I shall get back into it all again. I believe in what this lovely husband is saying and hope I can make a difference, take care x

Love Babs, I was lucky enough to have been her personal security a few years back, she was lovely and I got all the stories about the carry on's and a whole lot more !! lol a genuine nice person, a people person everyone Babs was meeting had her full attention. Sad to see her like this, Time waits for no one.

My mum had alzims my dad cared for her as long as he could then it came to a head that dad was a virtual prisoner in his own home my self and my sister in law used to go and sit with her why dad went to do some shopping on a sunday my brother used to sit with her why dad went for a pint it got to the point were dad could not look after her he took.the hard decision to put her in a home after he spoke to use all for my dads health as well mum went in a care home and was well looked after dad went to see her three days a week until six years ago gone 12 june he was with her the night she died my dad visits her grave every week and takes flowers and well I know he misses her every day

The only care my 85yr old mother who has Alzheimers has is me and im in my sixties and disabled with heart probs im an unpaid carer because who would take money off your own mother for care.Shes terrified of care homes and i really do hope that she will never have to go in one but will happen if i go before her the stress and struggles for food during lockdown was terrible dont know how i managed to get through it !!

I’ve been diagnosed with Lewy body dementia I was told my life span we would be 8-5 years this was 4.5 years. Ago I’m glad that someone in the public eye has taken up on this campaign for me it’s too late but for others it’s a start 👍👍🤝🤝👍

Such a lovely fella Scott Mitchell can't fault the man , worked in nursing for over ten years and have seen the affect it has not only on the sufferer but the family. In one case the person I was looking after lost her speech and her husband wouldn't leave her side he felt guilty going out with friends and moving on heart breaking. NEVER GIVE UP YNWA.

This actually really helps me because three years ago my grandmother was diagnosed with alzheimer's and it was horrible to find out that she had it. I was completely shocked, I didn't know what to do. Luckily I still have her in my life right now but when the time comes that she has to go, I will most definitely be in pain because she is the person I love the most on this planet.

I've looked after my downs sister all her life she as now got dementia. I got paid £70 a week . My health as got bad because of it ( worrying over her) as put me into depression . Family members are saving government hundreds of pounds a week, there needs more help. Now I'm costing the government money because I'm disabled too.

I also gave up My Job to care for Dad as Mom could not cope. This should not be happening in England in 2020. Its time for a UK Government to look after Our own as much as it does other Countries with Aid. And lets be totally honest most dont need it.Our own do wake up Boris be remembered in History for all the right reasons not like MRS May who was a disgrace to the People She vowed to serve.
