31:15 that is exactly the reason why we don't actually say Indians in Brasil, we say Indigenas, because indian is a term created by the colonizers, but indigena means: native of the country of origin, so it is more politically right to say Indigena

It's always interesting hearing the greeting customs from different countries. I'm Puerto Rican and my family is very mixed in Latin cultures but very Hispanic dominant. And it's pretty much across the board you meet a woman it's a kiss on the cheek (or you touch cheeks). You greet a man it's just a hand shake or you dap them. As long as you're close in relation. But they're also not too forward. When they met my wife for the first time they just did hand shakes, the second time they gave her a kiss lol

In Brazil we have two very similar words for native people, thats why was strange to rafi. The more "old school" way is "Indio" (and an "indiano" is the term for people from India). This term is not that much used anymore for the same reason as in US. Its common to user "indigenous" (indígena) that has the same meaning as native American. But here people don't have much problem in using both terms. Its not that of a problem if you are not being racist or something.

In German we say 'Schneidersitz' for criss-cross applesauce. Translated it means 'sitting like a tailor'. Discriminating a profession is probably less worse XD

I’m from the same city where Rafi was born… I’ve been stabbed during a robbery (in the end I beat him up and mugged the guy) , been through a robbery at gun point twice… Brasil isn’t for amateurs 🤣 Now I live in Canada and I quite often feel like scamming people or mugging them just so they know the dangers there are in the real world 🤣 Scams here are ridiculous 🤣 Really enjoyed this talk, Rafi is awesome and you guys made me laugh a lot 🥰

I rember hearing not much of the amazon has explored by modern studies so i googled and yeah so much in there we don't know yet😀 """"The exploration of the Amazon is a multifaceted topic; strictly speaking, we can say most and possibly even all of it has been explored by humans, since populations have lived there thousands of years and constantly move about in search of new food and resources. In terms of modern academic and scientific exploration, only a small percent of the forest has been conclusively mapped and charted simply because it is so large and many areas are very remote. Almost all of the rainforest has been explored by air and satellite since planes and satellites make it easier to explore regions rather than on-foot. Even with these technologies, occasionally new tribes of indigenous humans are found. Studying and cataloging the flora and fauna in the Amazon is ongoing and extent of completion is difficult to estimate. We do know that approximately 20% of the rainforest has already been deforested and more is lost each and every year.""""""

Among Native folks, there's a wide range of opinions on use of the terms "Indian" and "American Indian" as they apply to themselves. Some people actually prefer it and you also have to remember that in the US, it's a formal legal designation. "American Indians" have a special legal relationship with the federal government. Another thing is that the term has never applied to Alaska Natives or Native Hawaiians, so it doesn't work as a catch-all term anyway. Not saying it should be any non-Native person's go-to term, but it's not a strict no-no the way it is in most of Canada. Other options, such as Native American, are also controversial for various reasons. Remember, the US, America, and the Americas are all colonial concepts. Historically, Native people weren't American by any definition. They had and, for the most part, still have their own nationalities, like Menominee, Eastern Cherokee, Hopi, etc. Historical figures like Pocahontas and Sacagawea were not really Native American. They were Powhatan and Shoshone, respectively. Today, some Native people in the US are proud to call themselves Americans and others reject that designation entirely. So like everything else in this world, it's not black and white.
@jfm14
@jfm14 Год назад
Oh, also... I think sitting "Indian-style" refers to the way yogis sit? Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think that has anything to do with Native people here.

The thing is that he has his experience of 40+ years in Brazil and then a couple in the US. If you get the statistics, a lot is different but a lot is comparable. Chicago has a higher murder rate than São Paulo. Is it shitty? Yes, but idk just HOW MUCH I'd feel safer in the US, by the numbers.

back in the day a kid with nightmare would get taken to a priest and the priest would drown him in holy water and the kid won't scream again for fear of being drowned again. that would be called purification.

I had night terrors when I was little and I actually remembered what they were like for the longest time but eventually came puberty and I forgot, until later as an adult I experienced the same feeling in a panic attack. I still have them if I don't check my anxiety but my point is I'm pretty sure night terrors in kids are panic attacks. Might be wrong and probably am wrong but that's what I experienced.

I once made a canadian boy super uncomfortable by kissing him on the cheek. He was an exchange student in Peru staying with a friend of mine and when we got introduced he extended his hand to get a handshake.. and that was just so weird to me, so I grabbed his hand, pulled him closer and kissed him on the cheek. Poor guy flushed bright red, and was speechless. We were 15-16

Rafinha isna good comedian, but he needs to stop bullshiting about his past. In the standards of Brazil he is a rich guy, he really started the stand-up sence but its not the bright and innovative that he describes. In Brazil we can say swear in general, just not in tv He went to the US becouse his comedy became tired here, and he became kinda of our Ellen

Vocabulário riquissimo e estrutura gramatical sempre correta...

12:50 when rafinha mentions that outside the US “colleges” and schools don’t have sports teams connected to them, it’s not entirely correct. In Brazil that is the case, however in Europe it isn’t, I live in the UK and went to a British Uni where there were a lot of different sports teams, I myself played American football for my university, albeit is not as big as the sports in the US, in Europe (some countries of Europe) universities do have sports teams, for American football some of the universities that are on the highest level sometimes even get enough funding to bring foreign players (most of the times Americans) to represent their university through scholarships. (A good case to look up is the UWE bullets)
