Not ar all ! This song refers to the story of Orpheus abd Eurydice . In ancient Greece legends ,Orpheus was a great poet and musician ,one of the best on earth .His music moved an6 creature who heard it . He was deeply in love with Eurydice but one day ,Eurydice died and Orpheus was so deeply shoked that he defied the gods ,entering the kingdom of Hades after he seduced Cerberus the dog with his music. I don 't remember the end of the story though

@@virginielafrench3921 Then, when Orpheus came to Hades, he asked to bring Eurydice back to life. Hades, seeing that Orpheus was able to enter, which is normally impossible, accepted, but at one condition, that Orpheus must not look at Eurydice on his way back to Earth. Orpheus accepted, and started walking with Eurydice. As he walked, he did not look at her, except for the very last part. Right before the end, he could not resist looking to see if Eurydice was still following him. As he looked at her, he saw her vanish right before his eyes. Eurydice was now gone, for good.

I cannot believe how underrated stringed instruments are compared to piano. I love my classical guitar, and imo any stringed classical piece can be just as amazing as a piano piece.

Theorbos are on another level, IMHO. They don't sound like a traditional lute, they're so deep and rich, yet so organic.

Theorbo. Archlute is smaller and tuned higher. It's very easy to confuse them.

Very impressive performance gentlemen. I love how the low notes of the theorbo are dance-club deep, but still possess a 'buzzy" quality that makes them clear and incisive, at the same time. Mr. Phan's diction, with the soft consonants and buttery transients, serve the mood of the song exceptionally well. He's a Late Renaissance Mel Torme'!

Is it "Give me ly lute" written for therobo?

A theorbo is a type of lute. But the piece is written for singer and continuo. It's rather like a Jazz lead sheet in that it doesn't say which instrument should accompany. You could use lute, harp, harpsichord, organ, guitars, or any combination of those.
