Another change from the books that I really felt undermined a character's entire intrigue(?). What made Barty Crouch Jr interesting as a villain (aside from being Barty Crouch's son) is that the entire book you're really uncertain of whether or not he was actually guilty. Even after it's revealed that he's the imposter, he's portrayed as being so brilliant that he could pass himself off as Mad-Eye Moody even to freaking DUMBLEDORE. Making him an obvious madman in the movies threw all of that out the window.

@@CloudOnIOS Somebody didn't read the books. I know it's been more than a year, but this is completely incorrect. "In his younger days, Karkaroff was a Death Eater and acquaintance of Severus Snape. It was reported that Karkaroff helped Antonin Dolohov torture Muggles and non-supporters of Lord Voldemort during the First Wizarding War. He was eventually captured by Auror Alastor Moody and spent a short period of time in Azkaban. Shortly after Voldemort's first downfall, Karkaroff appeared before the Council of Magical Law, offering information in exchange for leniency. He claimed to have felt great remorse for his crimes as a Death Eater, however Moody was sceptical. Among the names he gave were Dolohov, Evan Rosier, Travers, Mulciber, and Snape. He became increasingly desperate as it was revealed that these names were worthless; the Death Eaters he mentioned had already been captured, killed, or, in Snape's case, had switched sides. However, Karkaroff was able to satisfy the Council when he submitted the name Augustus Rookwood, an Unspeakable who was spying on the Ministry of Magic for Voldemort. This information was new to the Ministry, and he was sent back to Azkaban for a review of his case. From Sirius Black's comment that Karkaroff 'put a load of other people into Azkaban in his place', it can be assumed that he named other Death Eaters in addition to Rookwood after his initial hearing or that the discovery of Rookwood helped the Ministry weed out other Death Eaters and other Voldemort supporters" Barty Crouch Jr. bit in the movie was added to Karkaroff's confession in order to save time, but this is completely irrelevant, moving on. I understand that the movies might have made some bits confusing, but I must point out that Karkaroff really wasn't a Death Eater anymore. Even in the movie, you can see the scene where he showed his increasingly visible Death Mark to Snape as he was panicking, afraid of Voldemort's return. As soon as the Death Eaters were called to Voldemort (that night in the graveyard)-Karkaroff fled for his life. He was terrified of what they are going to do to him, he knew he couldn't show his face. But he couldn't run forever. Death Eaters eventually found him and killed him.
