GIVE UP Sneakers to Achieve Goals? All or Nothing?!

To achieve the #goals you have for #money and life, do you have to give up #sneakers altogether and not buy pairs you love?! I don't think so, there's an opportunity cost associated with every choice you make but I don't think it has to be all or nothing unless you're in a really bad place financially.

globally we're in rocky financial times. so JB releasing a bunch of heat in 2025, rather than over the next few years, is a sign to me that they're trying to cash out on us ASAP. they know economic hardship will only get worse and more people will start to cut out unnecessary spending. so take that sign and stay one step ahead 🤷‍♂

I partly think this as well, so we will see how different markets fair, as there is already a downtown on car purchases, and a rise in delinquencies in car payments and credit card payments.

Tj big support on your videos like your content just wanna ask this question it’s all love why are you so stuck on the helping with budget but you won’t tell your workout plan ? Understand that it differs from person to person but so does finances right ? Just saying u look like people will follow your workout I don’t need it I just was listening to u and that kinda stuck out but maybe u just don’t want to right lol have a blessed day great vid keep em coming
@TalksWithTJ
@TalksWithTJ Месяц назад
Because my content isn't centered on fitness and you are correct, it differs for everyone. My choice for my channel is to speak about sound decisions in personal finance in the lane of sneakers because that's what we all mutually enjoy on my channel. Everything doesn't have to be shared of our lives with the internet. I know that's a taboo thing now but people aren't entitled to know everything about my life or what I do, such as my workouts, nor my diet. For what? To hear everyone say "that doesn't work for me or I could never stick to that". It's not meant to work for everyone, it's meant to work for me, as everyone needs to seek out what works for them bc they will never look like anyone else either. I work out and do what works for me, I have no desire to focus on fitness as content.
@jimy0803

i truly feel that what u are doing is needed. it's something that needs to be said, altho some may not want to hear it bcuz it is harsh reality. some people have gotten into sneakers moreso bcuz it was trendy, and now they're hooked. some are so obsessed that they actually forego bills in order to grab new releases, putting themselves even more in debt. myself, altho i'm old enough and secure enough to get any shoe i want, cutting down has made it so much more pleasurable to look at my bank account, rather than smh at the amount of money i was spending frivolously on shoes.
@TalksWithTJ
@TalksWithTJ Месяц назад
I appreciate the kind feedback, and no it won't be liked by everyone. Some think these discussions have no place in sneakers and would rather focus on buying everything in sight, regardless if it puts a strain on their finances or not. Nike is not coming to save anyone, they will do what is in their best interest and everyone should do the same for their pockets long term. I too enjoy knowing there is money for whatever is needed or things I want to do in buying less pairs.

Tj ur right. I've been buying more books than shoes since 2020-2021. I buy less shoes each year. I typically get them less than retail...my only problem would be space eventually. I have most of what I want. I rarely buy the new versions of Jordans with Nike Air on the back because my retro jumpman versions are still ok. At this point we're better off dollar cost averaging investing in the stock market. It's probably not a bad idea to buy Nike now since 2025 going to look good.
@TalksWithTJ
@TalksWithTJ Месяц назад
Jordan alone does not dictate the stock price of Nike so I wouldn't use that is the sole reason to invest in them. Dollar cost averaging in index funds, sure, something I do consistently. Space will be a problem for everyone at some point, so good that you are being real about it.
@GoodfellaNell
@GoodfellaNell Месяц назад
@@TalksWithTJ absolutely! QQQ index fund is what i'm talking about investing in. Maybe Jordan Brand won't make the Nike stock price jump a lot. Maybe it'll make a decent gain from its current $70-ish slot it's currently in. Obviously, that'll depend if someone puts in a lot to make a lot lol.

@TalksWithTJ
@TalksWithTJ Месяц назад
Eating out is one of the ways people can shift their spending to other areas they really care about, I agree. And again, I am not opposed to people eating out at all, the convenience is real and it can still be healthy if you make smart choices. But sometimes those totals can take away from being able to do other things.

Funny Ive only collected for 2 years and last year I suggested to a well known Twitter account to invest in crypto instead big collections. Only a couple months later I noticed him posting on Twitter about investing with sneaker money and since I’ve seen it echoed across Twitter all 2024. Good to see especially those of us from the mud with it. I made a goal to buy a house from 3k worth of shoes I sold last year as a experiment. So far got up to 18k. So anybody talking down on this idea just needs to grow up.
@TalksWithTJ
@TalksWithTJ Месяц назад
Congrats on the growing house fund. It's nice to see people also invest while still enjoying sneakers or any other passion. Many won't dive in on crypto with it still be foreign to them, and I prefer my money in traditional stocks (while still being aware of crypto), but it is great to see a shift into assets.

College should be cheaper, our education system should be set up to truly assist students, not bury them in debt and much more. No one is attacking anyone's shoes though, if you have payments, you have to pay them. Pulling back on some pairs can put you in a position to get rid of them sooner rather than later.

@@TalksWithTJ it just sucks seeing the younger generation feel like they are forced to sacrifice some of the shoes they want to be responsible when Nike is about to be on a tear in 2025 with the releases. I hate that for yall honestly.
@TalksWithTJ
@TalksWithTJ Месяц назад
No matter the generation, there is a give and take in life as our money is not infinite. We can't have everything single thing we want in life without giving up something else at some point. That is life. If you think you should always just eat everything you want, never taking into account how it could affect other areas of life or your health, that has consequences. Young people passing on shoes they simply want to make sure they free themselves from debt isn't the worst thing in the world. It also teaches them delayed gratification.

Thank you for commitment to this messaging. It is very helpful and encouraging. My partner decided stay home with the kids and that was a more difficult transition than expected. Especially after having some unexpected hits with kids medical bills, etc. This kind of content is encouraging because it can be easy to fall into the trap of consuming when most other if not all other sneaker content creators directly or indirectly encourage continuous consumption. Not that they are to blame for my or any of our spending habits but, when almost every piece of content is about how dope a sneaker is, which if you aren't mindful and disciplined you will find yourself going after said pairs just because they are dope even though the purchase itself doesn't align with short or long term goals. Consuming sneaker content that says "hey, be mindful, step back, what are your goals" etc while still celebrating sneakers is refreshing and energizing.
@TalksWithTJ
@TalksWithTJ Месяц назад
Thank you for sharing, I truly appreciate it. Life throws a lot at all of us, unexpectedly, so you're not alone. I think you're spot on, it's easy to chase every pair you like or love because it's shown all over, but that may not be advantageous to other goals you have as well. I know it's a weird perspective in footwear to admire pairs without buying every new pair, but it's far more realistic and healthier for most of us, money wise.

@@TalksWithTJ Thats how it used to be! This behavior of going for every sneaker you like is a pretty new phenomena. I did a great job of not giving into it until just before the pandemic in 2019 when, not unsurprisingly, I started consuming more sneaker media than I had ever before, discovered StockX and finally started an IG account. Before then it was retail or bust, and virtually no online shopping. All purchases were at the Foot stores or local boutiques or ones I visited while traveling. You've always preached this message from the beginning. I think I subbed when you were at or around 3k (as Deon Knott for my username). But thank God you've been going heavier into this kind of content. Right when I needed it. ✊🏿

Oh wow, yeah you've been around for a while, I definitely remember the name. Thank you for noticing I have been consistent with my messaging, but I think it is very important I lean into it even more with how I feel towards buying sneakers at this stage in life, in my collecting and how much people only see the "buy everything" side of sneakers.

I stopped collecting random sneakers and now only by invicible runs when they go on their massive sales because I can walk all day I'm them, sb dunks because I think they are cool, and occasionally a pegasus trail because they are comfortable at the office. Gone are the jordan 3s 1s and 4s unless they are an SB. Fico at 845 and about to max out my Roth IRA for the second year in a row. I make an average income. Nothing special. It's just priorities. @TalksWithTJ

Well sorry to hear that, but from the video, it's clearly stated that I am in FAVOR of reaching your money goals AND buying sneakers. I am not sure how that was missed but I definitely said I want people to enjoy the little things we find joy in like sneakers while also making sure we aren't being irresponsible. And others are also in favor of these conversations that you likely won't find on other channels because their focus is only buying and nothing else. Your financial stability is your responsibility as mine is mine, same for every other adult. I haven't knocked people for choosing to buy a brand new car, just because I wouldn't do it, doesn't mean I tell others to not. I advocate for people to be smart and run the numbers so they aren't payment poor at the end of the day.
