It amazing how these hen Nightjar's. will stand and defend eggs/chicks from intruder's to the point of losing there lives. The males when guarding first brood chicks will nearly always prefer the distraction technique to lure intuders away from chicks.

Definitely. You can see it in its eyes. If the rabbit wanted to do harm, I think we would’ve seen a more aggressive response

Was listening to these in the New Forest a few nights ago, lovely sound and such a difficult bird to see, amazing footage considering how rare it is to catch sight of one.

But the look of it, the friendly feathered friend is protecting her Eggs or her Chicks otherwise, it would either fight the Bunny or Flee unless, of course it's injured.

@@bourbon_sketcher One who is proficient in skinning and threading leather could certainly turn the cute little thumper into one. 🤔 If you make one small enough for the bird though, you'd have to call it a nightlid, because night🫙. Sorry, I just finished the taxidermist missions in rdr2. This gunslinger chipmunk they gave me got me all messed up lmao 🤣

In Spanish the nightjar is called chotacabras, not cupacabras, be cause they spoke livestock in that way.

Why do nightjars nest on the ground? Can find an answer on google... Edit: Nightjars have ALOT of weird behaviors actually definitely worth a trip down the rabbit hole for those interested.
