How do you go about practicing excerpts like this? The flats and sharps can be confusing at times.

Honestly this is not written in a way that is helpful to the player. Marking accidentals as much as needed to play the right notes is totally ok. Isolate small sections and make sure all the flats and sharps are accurate.

I generally try to keep half steps next to each other when I can. In an etude like this, it makes it a lot smoother and consistent at least for me.
