Giving Birth to My 5th Child (Unedited Raw Footage)

When I was pregnant with my first baby I had no idea what to expect when giving birth. I wish I had someone to walk me through how long labor could potentially be, the interventions that are used, and what my options were. So l decided to document and share my entire birthing experience from start to finish. I begin recording as my first serious contractions took place.
Since I have been induced for most of my births I didn’t know what contractions would feel like when occuring naturally. I was worried I wouldnt be able to tell the difference between Braxton Hicks and real labor contractions.
I had been experiencing Braxton Hicks for several weeks at this point, but on this day the contractions were different. They were stronger and I could feel my whole uterus contracting, rather than just a localized area. They became stronger and I began breathing heavier. That's when I knew the contractions needed to be timed.
They say you know it's time to leave for the hospital when your contractions are happening at least every 5 minutes, last for one minute each, and have been happening consistently for 1 hour. It's called the 5-1-1 rule.
I birth big babies, I am talking over 10 lbs, and never once was a c-section mentioned to me just because of their size. I have had an epidural for all my births so for baby number 5 I really wanted to try to have an unmediated birth.
Unfortunately I didn't make it. I was close, but I knew I would lack the strength to push if I continued to suffer and fight the pain.
I have actually enjoyed my epidural births! They allowed me to relax and be more present for the experience. Being able to relax is key too. Each time I tried to birth unmedicated labor wouldn't progress.
Please note, this is just my personal experience. Everyone is going to have a different birth story 🤗❤️

In regards to me doing laundry, It’s called nesting 🥰 Its a very common phenomenon for some women in active labor. It’s a welcomed distraction and makes us feel more in control during a time that is uncontrollable. Also, my husband was with our crying 1yr old & didn’t even know I was doing laundry. With 7 people in the house, it doesn’t matter how on top of the laundry we are, there will always be a pile. 😉 In regards to why my husband didn’t drop me off at the front. My husband tried several times to drop me off close but I refused. I didn’t want to be separated from him even for a second ❤ This is our 5th go around so he knows, my labor, my rules. 😘

I'm also a mother of (soon to be) 5. Every pregnancy is different, thankfully all of mine have been pretty easy, but delivery is always the scary part. That said, your body will know what to do. I remember having this feeling in my first pregnancy like "what if my body doesn't know how to go into labor" so I opted for an induction... Which was not a good experience.

@lettus143
@lettus143 Год назад
@@MrsMuffin11 there's a phase during labor called 'transitioning' that will throw everything you've tried to drill into your head out the window. in this video you see that moment when she's begging to not have to push. it's adrenaline and fear from that pain.. my biggest suggestion to you is to understand what your body is doing. the key is seeing the pain not as pain, but as pressure. understanding what the pressure is, why it's happening, and that it will only continue on as long as you keep fighting against it is what's going to help you the most in labor. it's hard not to fight it, but relaxing as much as you can and riding through the waves until the baby hits that transitioning phase, then finding something to focus on, to keep your grounded, and literally pushing past your fear to get the baby out. you'll feel like you're going to split in half so the fear is going to make you not want to push, but you'll get to that point where you just want it to be over with and you'll let out your primal scream, or maybe you'll internalize a deep groan you've never heard yourself make, and it'll only take a few minutes or less to be holding your little one. i truly mean it when i say to find something to focus on, with my 3rd it was my first unmedicated birth, and i remember my eyes rolling back into my head and my vision going in and out as i would glance all around the ceiling. with my fourth i was at home so there was a lot of comfort and familiarity to focus on. even if you're just hyper focused on the hand you're holding or a little spot on the floor, just focus on that area and have your support person keep reminding you to breath and to ride the waves.

I kept saying “I can’t do this I can’t do this” over and over again but after 30 minutes of pushing I finally got to meet my baby girl. Seriously the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my entire life. I remember vividly thinking “I’ve come this far (20 hours of labor) and now that I have to actually push I won’t be able to do it” I was passing out in between contractions and pushes. I had had no sleep for 36 hours at that point. If it weren’t for my amazing nurses and midwives I don’t know how I would have done it. I only had a tiny tear and recovery has been really quick. Best thing I did this time was having a doula (my pastor’s wife and good friend) so I would highly recommend that. Trust your body! You'll understand when you get there. (once you start having contractions, and while you're in labor) on my first baby I had such intense contractions and I called labor and delivery but they said I wasn't ready and to stay home until contractions get closer but then just 5 mins after I got off the phone I just couldn't deal with the contractions so I went in and yep just 1- 2 hours later I had a baby. So always trust your body. Bring a blanket and pillow! The two best things I brought to everyone of my pregnancies. Also, try to eat before you go cause I was stuck on just liquids for hours and didn't eat because I went to the hospital around 1 or 3AM. And the kitchen was closed so I had to just get Italian ice, jello and water. Just had my 3rd 4 months ago so it's all still fresh information! 😆

@@elizabethy2912 your experience isn’t everyone’s.
@kathyryder828
@kathyryder828 Год назад
@elizabethy2912 everyone is different. My first baby was also born via forceps due to her shoulders getting stuck and fetal distress. Fortunately I had an epidural. I feel for you. I chose not to have an epidural with my second baby though and I'm glad I made that decision. They were a bit bigger (9Lb 6) but longer (22.5 inches) and they didn't get stuck. The pushing stage was only 20 mins. My midwife was the opposite of yours and kept trying to convince me to have an epidural which annoyed me as I wanted her to be quiet so I could focus on my breathing. Ultimately it would be good if all all midwives, nurses and doctors listened to their patients and let us make our own informed choices. Please don't project your own experiences onto others. Let people make up their own minds.

I've not had kids yet, and it may be a little while before I do, but thank you for sharing this. I have seen so many horror stories about labour and anecdotes about how difficult it is, that the whole thing had become a terrifying prospect. But your video normalised it, and I feel again like it is something I could do. Also, 10lb baby and no tearing?! If I understand correctly, that is a huge achievement! (Congrats on the baby too btw 😊)

I had many women telling me horror stories when I was pregnant with my first baby. It was so unhelpful. I had 2 vaginal deliveries. The first was a forceps delivery with an epidural. The second was an unmedicated vaginal delivery with no interventions. Neither of them were terrible experiences. I had an episiotomy with the first and a small tear with the second and healed pretty quickly. Some women do have very traumatic birth experiences. The majority of us don't though.

@@kathyryder828You're right Kathy. I gave birth to 3 babies vaginally. I had all natural with my 1st and epidural with my second. But my son came out so fast I didn't have time to really prepare for anything. My doctor said it was the fastest and easiest delivery he ever performed. 😊

I try to be really positive about both my births to newly pregnant or want to be pregnant people so they realize it can be as wonderful experience as it can be terrifying. I had an episiotomy with no pain meds with my first and I still found it an extremely empowering and amazing experience. Enough I willingly had a second kid! Thankfully no episiotomy that time, but I did go into labour and have her in 2.5 hours lol

Girl! I just relived my own sons birth, watching this.. 😱 He was over 9 pounds and had a 36.5cm head circumference. I had only happy gas and a natural birth. Like you, I had so much pressure on my lower back and butt, trying to get his head out, that I ended up in a birthing pool to alleviate the pain. That kid was born under water, which blows my mind. I remember hearing my midwife say that my butt was never gonna be the same again… lol. 😅 My sisters said they could hear me screaming the place down from out in the waiting room. I caved for my third pregnancy, and asked for an epidural. As soon as the nurse left the room to get it set up, my son came out. I started screaming because I was alone, my husband was at home getting things ready and the other two kids ready. It was scary, but I did it naturally and never thought I would. I had a precipitous labor, meaning my contractions were constant, no break in between them and I went from my water breaking at home to delivering him an hour later. I showed up at the hospital at 2 centimeters, and dilated all the way from severe contractions so rapidly he needed extra help getting fluid out of his lungs. Scary, but ended up being my easiest delivery, I didn't tear like I did with the other two even though he was much bigger than my second. I think epidurals make you push harder and you don't limit yourself so you are more likely to tear. I could be wrong, but another perk was that I could walk and go to my postpartum room right away. I hated waiting for my legs to start working again and the shakes. I was lucky to experience natural and epidural births, perks of using epidural is you can enjoy the experience more and you don't feel traumatized and forget as much as you do with a natural. I was definitely scared from being alone and him coming out without assistance and not knowing if he was okay. Luckily my screams brought in all the nurses pretty fast, lol. One had to rush to get to him and didn't even have gloves on, she just put the gloves between her hands and him to get him situated as he was on the bed between my legs and I was just in shock.

Oh well done. My first child from first contraction to delivery was 27 minutes. It was a good thing the hospital was just down the road from our condo. He was born in the entrance of the Emergency Department. My second child, the minute I felt a slight contraction,I headed out the door. (I was going to be admitted the next day to prevent a reoccurrence of my first labour). I was too late. My daughter was born in the vestibule of my condo building. There’s a medical term for deliveries like mine but I can’t remember it. A quick delivery like mine sounds great but it actually isn’t that great for the baby and I don’t recommend it. They’re also extremely painful. However all’s well that ends well. They are both great kids.
