Now that I have given birth to my 5th child, the biggest question I am asked is, “So, are you done having kids now?” “How do you know when you’re done having kids?”
In this video I am answering our reasoning for having a big family in this day and age and why we don’t use conventional forms of birth control and instead use Natural Family Planning (NFP) ❤️

Appreciate you sharing Chrissy! For those of us with fertility issues, God's journey for us is different. After our first son was born we longed for a second pregnancy. Six years of waiting, trying, praying, and crying, I'm proud to be a mom of two amazing boys six years apart! Two complicated pregnancies, both of which ended in emergency c-sections, and I'm done but ever so, so thankful.

Catholic mom here pregnant with number 4 in 4.5 years! Thank you for normalizing this! Children are a blessing not a burden! Even when the days are tough (like most days 🙃) it's so worth it! After a traumatic delivery with #2, I was ready to be done. I was pregnant with #3 3.5 months later by total surprise. Thank God for His timing and His plan because I can't imagine my life without my third son! God bless you and your beautiful family ❤️

Love this! Fellow Catholic and NFP user here. Would love to see you talk more about building a "mom tribe" for those of us without as much family support nearby though! We're lucky to have lots of friends, but it seems like ALL of them are also in the thick of having big families closely spaced, so I feel like we're all maxed out.

Yes! Children and big families are the best. I'm one of 6. My husband and i almost took permanent measures to prevent after baby #4. But we joined the Orthodox Christian church and were thankfully talked out of it. Now we have #5 who I cannot imagine not having and am so incredibly blessed to have. And maybe someday there will be more!We love children, and what our priest calls holy chaos.

Hi Chrissy. New subscriber here. Mom of 4 here (8, 6, 4, and 2), working outside the home. I LOVE your content. It's so refreshing. Your videos are short enough that I can watch them without feeling guilty for taking time away from other things. For a variety of reasons, we've chosen to stop at 4 kids, but a part of me does miss being pregnant and having babies, so I enjoy watching you grow your sweet family. I love that you normalize so many aspects of parenting that are real to a lot of families but not depicted on social media - making a nicer meal for Mom and Dad that the kids can try, but also a safe meal. The bedtime and house cleaning routine taking several hours. Thanks for sharing!

It’s true! As a mom of five and hopefully more, my biggest advice to moms of any number is…ditch your phone as much as you can. I pretty much have stopped using mine unless my kids are asleep (magically they all went down with minimal chaos tonight 😂) You’ll never look back and wish you’d used it more. While it’s great to get messages out and connect with people, don’t ever let it take priority over the people in your home. And it’s too easy for that to happen without us realizing it. It’s been about a year of digital minimalism relationship with my husband and kids is so much better with no more screens during the day! Keep on keeping on, mamas!

I've been feeling God nudging me away from my phone for a while. I used to be someone who was always on the computer, in my youth and even as a mother. I hardly use it anymore these days. I don't use social media. God has really been putting it on my heart that it's just a distraction, and I know it's true. Some days are better than others, the days I don't use it much I get SOOO much more done around the house, have better conversations with my kids, do better thinking about the way the house is run, ect.

The fact you guys grew up in poverty because of selfish decisions by adults is the reason ppl raise an eyebrow at big families. Even besides monetarily, every valuable resource, including attention, is severely limited if it’s being divided several different ways. This is not judgement it’s fact.
@echoseeker9178

Thanks for sharing :) I grew up the third of four kids with a similar story. People who say it’s selfish to have kids when you don’t have loads of money either don’t know anything about God’s provision, or don't believe a poor child’s life can be a better one than a rich one’s. So what if my parents had to work harder than others to feed us? So what if we got hand-me-downs and couldn’t afford fancy dance or martial arts lessons? I was loved by my parents and my siblings, and that’s worth a lot more than financial security. Because of my parents’ love, the world was my oyster and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

I was raised in a big Catholic family and while my life is taking a different path I vividly remember strangers bombarding my mother (sometimes my dad, but usually my mom 🙄 ugh misogyny) with questions like these. Depending on her mood she’d find a witty and polite way to say “eff off” or just ignore them. But she (and my dad) ALWAYS made sure that us kids knew that we were wanted, we were loved, they considered us a gift from God and inspired us to see and value each of our siblings as sacred gifts. My life choices have been very different from my parents but to this day my siblings are the absolute BEST part of my life. We’ve had our ups and downs, we’re not perfect of course. But I’ve learned so much about life through my siblings. Thank you for your page Chrissy. It’s so nostalgic for me to see you raise your family similarly to how I was raised. @hopevanloenen9274

Because there are consequences to sin. We simply live in a very broken world and that is why we need Jesus. God didn't create the world to have sickness, poverty, death, hurts, pains, sorrow, fear etc. But Adam and Eve sinned, and we have continued that pattern. Sin caused a separation between us and God, He didn't like that though or want to leave it that way, because He wanted relationship with us. We can see that was always His desire throughout the whole Bible. Because He didn't want to leave the world like that He sent Jesus. There had to be a sacrifice for sin, to cover/wash it away, God is righteous and Holy without sin, so there has be a cleansing. Jesus walked this earth without sin, He was tempted just as we are, but did not fall or give in. After a time of doing His ministry preaching the gospel, healing the sick, casting out demons and even raising the dead, he was brutally crucified. It says that He was beaten so badly you couldn't recognize that He was a man. He was whipped with the 39 lashes. The 39 lashes were said to be so bad that if they did one more it would kill. But, by His stripes we are healed (reference to the lashes) He was mocked, He had a crown of sharp, big thorns piercing his skull, He suffered other horrendous things as well, before being nailed to the cross. Our Lord and Savior, the Son of God, hanging there on the cross to bare our sins. Yes man put Him there, but it was His love that kept Him on that cross. He could have commanded angels to save Him, but He didn't, because He knew this needed to be done. When He gave up His spirit (died) the veil between us and God was broken. The people knew they had crucified the Son of God, but this is not the worst. He then had to face the wrath of God. Not because He had done anything wrong, but to take our punishment. He took the keys from Satan, tasted death and defeated death. You see, death could not hold Him because He was perfect without sin. There is only death because of sin, so Him being without sin, death had no power over Him. He then rose from the dead concurring death in full resurrection. He appeared to His disciples and 500 witnesses, before raising up to the Heavens to be seated at the right hand of God, and to rule as King of Kings Lord of Lords. However, we still have to make a move, we have to reach out our hand to receive this gift of salvation, this gift of being washed of our sins, free to have relationship with God and live for Him. How? Well in Acts 2:38 we see a very clear instruction. Peter (a disciple of Jesus) was preaching to the people telling them that they had crucified the Son of God. Being pierced to the hearts with conviction hearing this they responded "WHAT MUST WE DO?!" And Peter replied "Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” We see this verified in many other places in the Bible too. We NEED to REPENT, not just saying sorry, but having a godly sorrow where we do not go back, we turn away. We then get baptized into Christ, so that we may be one in His death and resurrection, dying with Him and raising with Him. Jesus Himself says you must be born of water and of the Spirit to enter the kingdom of heaven. To be born of water is the baptism, the Spirit, is to ask and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, the Comforter. Once we have done this we have been clearly commanded to go into all nations preaching the gospel, healing the sick, casting out demons, raising the dead, baptizing and making disciples. This is still our command for today. These things STILL happen ALL the time. It isn't often talked about, but wow, it is REAL. Jesus is coming back, not as a sacrifice this time but as a judge. He is coming back to sort His sheep from the goats. The ones who obeyed and turned from sin from the ones kept on sinning/denied Him. The ones He claims as His sheep will get to rule and rein with Him. They will get to be in the new earth. However the ones who are not His sheep will be thrown into the lake of fire suffering forever and ever. This may seem unfair, or unjust, but sin must be wiped for us to truly have right relationship with Him. And even after we repent and turn away, we are in no way righteous by our own accord but only by Him. Jesus makes us righteous, HE sanctifies us. We deserve death, we deserve the punishment because we have sinned against a righteous, Holy, perfect, just God.

I used to think I wanted a big family. But I just had my third and must say, every time my recovery has been so hard. And honestly it’s just not for me personally! So grateful for my babies- they are such gifts!! But I definitely think God isn’t upset with me for wanting to be done having children. I enjoy Chrissy’s content, but some in the comments concern me with a very rigid mindset about what “God’s plan” is. Because it’s up to the individual to seek His plan for their life- having a million kids isn’t a command. If you want to and it’s a joy for you and not hard on your body etc then that’s awesome! But it’s also awesome if you don’t want to keep having children because of whatever reason you have discerned for yourself and your family.

I appreciate your thoughts on this. It's hard to find other families that believe similarly. We're so busy trying to control every aspect in our modern lives, that we rarely think to give God full control. If we did, I think we would find that the results would be full of blessings! My husband and I have only been married two and a half years, already have two kids, and plan to have as many as the Lord gives. People think we are crazy 😂 but the way I look at it, if we would say no to anymore kids at some point, we are saying no to a blessing of a child that God wants to give us. If we had waited several years to have kids, we wouldn't have the two little blessings we have now. God knows best, and he won't give us more than we can handle. I appreciate your perspective on this, and your willingness to share!

We just take it one baby at a time right now and I pray hard in between because I know He has more to add to our family. Big happy families are just a blessing! I can’t imagine never having another precious child. (We both originally wanted 4 when we got married lol). We couldn’t imagine life without our sweet 5th. She’s our curly hair green eyed sweetie pie! Then we had a beautiful welcomed surprise 4 years later with #6 5 months ago!! If anyone wishes to have 0, only 1 or multiple children, it is their choice. I hope the people sending you questions regarding your family planning are doing it by plain curiosity and don’t mean more than that (although it has nothing to do with them still). I love your videos because I wish to have 4-5 children, God-willing. Your videos and tips are very helpfull to normalize having a larger-ish family but also just sharing real knowledge, advice, worries, etc. You seem like a loving parent and I think it's great that you take ownership over raising your children and not having the oldest raise their sibling, although it’s normal to expect that they do help with cleaning after themselves and clean up from time to time. I just hope the future provides all of them with everything they need for a thriving childhood and ample time to nurture their individual development. There's only so much time and energy one parenting team can give. At some point, there will be less to go around, to be able to give every child the individual nurturing they deserve. I relate to this so much! 🥰 I never thought I would have more than a couple kids (if any) and after getting married, my husband and I decided to completely let God be in control of our family and how many kids He wanted us to have. We are about to have 5 under 5 and, while I never would have planned it this way, I’m SO grateful that God did. Each of my kids are the biggest blessing and I can’t imagine our lives without one of them.

Love love this video! Thank you for being transparent and not being afraid to speak about God. My husband and I have 2 beautiful boys only 13 months apart exact and i wouldn't have it any other way. We also have the same belief about family as you, and we are catholic as well. My husband was diagnosed with testicular cancer and had one of them removed last year a few months after we found out we were expecting our second child. It's truly amazing the way God works when we are open to his will.

it’s not just your life. it is also the lives of children you are bringing into this world that you are not going to be able to pour into like you would if you had less children. that’s why people are concerned.

This is such a false statement... I know women who have many children and they are excellent mothers. I know women who only have one child yet are terrible mothers... It depends on the individual. Also, for most of human history people have been having large families. Did every child prior to 1950 grow up disadvantaged and neglected because of too many siblings? I don't think so. Siblings are a blessing to children.

@@sassychimpanzee7431 people have been having lots of children throughout history because most of those children died due to infant mortality rates. that’s no longer the case in america. children are people with their own lives and agency, not objects for parents to own and collect

lol, those people obviously don’t understand how much of a gift siblings are. I have ten siblings and they have all been such a wonderful and fun addition to my life. Never felt like I didn’t get enough attention, and I was smack in the middle in the line up (five older than me, five younger).

I think the scary part is that it's not your life decision. The decisions you make, do affect your family. What are your decisions are now 8 person decisions. And that's a lot of responsibility. The classic adage of not every parent deserves kids comes from someplace. And when children are born close together it's hard to believe that there was a plan for that specific child. And there's a lot of people who were at one point unplanned children. And there is a lot of pain there. But yes, it is projecting. That is not you or your life. People are just angry because it could be. Also, for people who have a lot hurt as adults, there is a feeling of resentment at being brought into the world when life is very hard! A lot of people who end up self removing themselves from the Earth would have rathered they were never born. But it wasn't their decision. It was yours. So sometimes creating people comes with guilt (at least to me). Because while you can do your best, you cannot control the trajectory of their life. It can justly be seen as "gambling with their lives". And that in itself can generate a lot of pain. So there are millions of people, angry to have been born, watching you do this to more and more people every time you get pregnant. Again, not your problem. But it comes from a real place with real reasons. I keep editing because everything you say brings another thought to my head. Like pregnancy is dangerous. So every time you get pregnant, you are risking leaving all the children you are have already had motherless. If you have 10, is your husband prepared to single father 10 children? Etc etc. so sometimes when people say that it does come from genuine concern. Maybe for you, maybe for these children, maybe for your husband. (Last little thing, I think some people must think it's funny that you might have more maternity clothes than not. For your season has been looooong! 😂😂❤)

You might consider a fertility tracker called TempDrop. It's fabulous cause not only does it continuously monitor at night so you don't have to do specific wake up windows for basal temp measurement (great for postpartum, night feedings, or otherwise interrupted sleep), but you have the option of seeing your sleep quantity/quality and can enter all sorts of relevant info. I've gotten some flack for not wanting to do anything hormonal or chemical to prevent pregnancy. I wish more people were cautious about doing things that cause side effects+ alter their body.
