This video made me curious about my guitar teacher who I took lessons with from 1997 until maybe 2000. He was hugely influential to my playing and is likely the reason that I always stayed interested in guitar and am still an active guitarist today. Unfortunately my internet search on him resulted in finding his obituary from 2016. He was only 63. I wish I could have let him know how much of an impact his lessons, instructions, and guidance left on me. It's so great that you got to do this for your teacher.

I felt this man. Tried looking up my teacher a few months back. Apparently he passed away in 2019. Alone. None of his family was with him, just people who were kind enough to post about his condition and ask for help. He looked scared. It broke my heart. He’s actually the reason I picked up a guitar instead of buying a GPU, I just felt like I needed to at least learn guitar to a better standard for him and for the younger me. I always felt bad about how I ignored him during highschool when he tagged me in posts and shit, he was always nice about it in a “grandpa who doesn’t understand Facebook etiquette” kinda way. Now I wish I at least talked with him a bit.
@xavierbatres5490
@xavierbatres5490 Год назад
Take you for sharing this! When I was learning to play guitar back in 2004, (at the time) my parents were a bit annoyed by me learning and practicing super loudly but there was a man that lived on my block that was a jazz/blues musician that would constantly talk to my dad and hear me “rock out”. One day he asked my dad if he can go up stairs and talk to me and that was when we officially met, his name was Miles, his friends called him EmmJay. Through out the years he mentored me, invited me to his gigs and plays that he would be performing the music on. And then on the Jan 2014 I noticed that he hasnt been moving his car and he started to get a lot of parking tickets. I then saw his car get towed and then people were leaving his apartment with his music gear and his main guitar, a red fender strat with a faded white pickguard. I asked them what happened and they told me that EmmJay passed away on Christmas Eve and he was alone. Watching this video really meant a lot because I think of EmmJay as the first person to have believed in me and motivated to keep practicing. Thank you so much for sharing dude.

Dad supporting his kid's hobby, and actively participating in it for both his pleasure and the benefit of his son. To gifting a priceless piece of a hand built icon of music from someone who always supports you, to someone who basically always supported you musically. My father has also built me and my brother amps and cabs, so this video really hits me in the feels. Genuinely refreshing video to see during these troubled times.

Well, this inspired me to look up my old guitar teacher John Perrone, who taught me classical guitar at the Royal Conservatory back in the 70s. I found his obituary, and there was able to post a photo of him playing guitar and to leave a short message. I would rather have been able to gift him with an instrument like you just did; I remember when I brought in my newly custom made Renaissance lute to play for him, and how pleased he was to hear some of my repertoire pieces played on the lute, for which they were originally written! :) (Under his tutelage I won a silver medal for highest Conservatory exam grade in the Province on guitar that year! Still have it.)
