I don't understand the cost of the box. Like there's no way each item needs to cost that much. Like they have got to have insane profit margins I love the idea of a mystery box but I'm too damn picky. I can't even do makeup mystery/subscription boxes. I'd much rather just spend the money on something I know I'd like, even if its not as much "bang for you buck" since sub boxes generally have good "retail" value
I really wish iGirl was still doing her bundles because that would be EPIC to see from you. She has a great fashion sense but her bundles seem to be way more styled and cute for smaller bodies than bigger ones and she's gotten a lot of criticism because of the price tag. I feel like any Depop mystery style bundles would be awesome to see you do though!
I completely support livable wages but I feel like "curation" goes out the window when it kind of seems like they just threw in something that was your size and that's all the thought they gave it.
They're definitely using the word "curated" loosely. You know they just sort stuff when it comes in to categories and just bundle the same sizes together.
The whole point of these boxes is to sell something that didn't sell in the thrift store to save it from landfills. Why on earth would they be MORE expensive than in the thrift store? It should be super cheap like the Goodwill bins. Like $20 for a big mystery box of items. I don't get the pricing of these. 🤔
I completely agree!! I can't get behind these prices, when you could very likely buy something you actually like from Depop/thread up/etc. for $20 each (or less tbh). This is the opposite of worth the money
straight up scam. reminds me of the people on depop charging $30-50 for jessica, alia and all the other brands thrift stores are overly stocked with and sell for $2.
@@agirlnamedkaitlyn5775 I seriously doubt they're spending hours looking for those items. I imagine those are discards from other thrift stores since supposedly they're on their way to the landfill. More likely the high price is meant to create a sense of intrigue and generate a feeling of exclusivity. I'm curious about their actual practices.
Uhm excuse me but I WOULD BE SO MAD IF MY $60 WORTH OF SHOES DID NOT ARRIVE!! Like did you ever get them?? Did you ask for your money back?? I’m stressed for you I need an update lol
I think you're being too nice. You paid $60 for shoes you didnt get, I think it is a big deal. If it was me or a lot of others, a $60 loss makes a big difference. I'd contact the company and get them to send the shoe or get a refund. You're definitely nicer than I am!
Their customer service is excellent. So if she didn’t reach out, being shorted is on her. I’ve gotten 4 boxes from them and only had an issue once. So, idk. 🤷🏾♀️
You should try the ThredUP mystery box. You pay $10 upfront and they send you items based on your style preferences, and then you only pay for what you want to keep. I’ve only done it once but I loved everything in the box. A couple things didn’t fit and then a couple things I didn’t think I would get enough use out of (like a cocktail dress or a bag I didn’t think I necessarily needed). Overall it was a great experience.
Doesn't look curated so much as it looks like they do a basic sorting and throw them in. They're probably sourcing these things for free or for pennies. No individual listing or pictures? Even considering livable wages, those prices are outrageous. Rip. Off.
I honestly feel so mad and frustrated at the price of the bundles *and*that the shoes failed to arrive. I think that if postage is included in the price, that subsequent bundles should be discounted. $20 for each of the sweaters is outrageous, especially if they are rescues! Can we please get an update on the shoes?
You're trying to be so positive in this video, but I think mystery boxes just aren't for you--they aren't fun! I think not only are you trying to be thrifty when you go thrift shopping, you also look for items that SPEAK to you, and you don't pay for those items if you think they're overpriced. These boxes are overpriced AND don't speak to you, so I'm not surprised you feel ripped off; I would, too! I much prefer videos where you picked the clothes and have a vision for them. Love your videos, Carrie!
This could be really cool if these boxes were cheaper then I feel like it would make more sense to get and upcycle them. I def understand paying for labor and storage but I wonder if they would actually sell more if it was cheaper. it's not like they are sourcing these items, they buy them in bulk from being shipped to landfills so I feel like they are kind of a scam at the price. They say they are curated but I honestly think that's a marketing ploy
I’m stuck on this one. Like it’s good to save clothes from being thrown away. But if you get a bunch of stuff you won’t wear or use and it’s end up back in the thrift cycle then what’s the point? Jury’s out for me too lol
60 bucks for items you didn’t even receive is one eighth of my entire paycheck. I’d be fuckin pissed if I was trying to support a cause like this and got scammed.
$30 shoes that they’re “saving from the landfill”? No ma’am. NO MA’AM. Thank you for taking the hit so we don’t have to, because this company is trash. Allegedly.
I vote you just buy more stuff off Poshmark, which typically helps things sell before it makes it to the thrift store or was maybe rescued from the thrift store It also goes to the people directly.
I actually loved that plain blue cable knit sweater and would spend $20 on it. Here in Texas I could NEVER find something like that at our thrift stores
Wait I need an update on the case of the missing shoes I’m genuinely curious if they were just shipped separately or if they just completely forgot them
Companies need to be held accountable for their products. Yes, there are multiple crises right now, but purchases are transactional and provide a mutual benefit. Companies need to be accountable and stand behind their service and their products.
I love all your videos so much! Your outfit is so cute, your so pretty! ❤ btw the dark green sweater with the animals riding a sleigh bring me back to the day when I used to watch Max an Ruby. Does anyone else see the resemblance of the characters or is it just me?
How are they charging $20 for a singular sweatshirt when it’s literally the stuff that’s gonna go to the landfill because no one wanted it at the thrift store. I feel like it should be even cheaper than in store and you just pay shipping.
They do a swap if you don’t like anything. So essentially you could keep swapping stuff. They’re only form of contact is email. I did a bundle and I got one decent sweater that I use for my morning workouts and 2 solid flannels. I messed up on sizes and got way to small graphic tees. They messed up on my swap twice and gave me plain tees. I have a 30% discount that I have not used 🙈
I wonder if it’s more of a size issue, because I know that it’s been a pretty recent (and long, long overdue) thing to have lots of clothes options for the larger sizes. Like I bet if she got a Large or just an XL they may have given her cuter stuff. But either way, these boxes are crazy overpriced and a total bougie ripoff 🤑
I did the SAME THING when I ordered - I thought it came with 2 jean jackets for $35 and I thought that was such a good deal and then I realized it was only 1 but it was okay bc it was gonna be a mens one which is what I have a hard time finding thrifting - mind you, there's a note section to write in so I put preferably black denim. somehow I ended up with a woman's blue Jean jacket with rhinestones on it lmao like how
Well the jury certainly isn't still out for me, I've made up my mind that's for sure. The minute you realised your shoes didn't arrive, this went from simple being overpriced mystery boxes full of stuff you'd find at any charity shop, to an inexcusably, incompetent company that not only rips off their customers to begin with but scams them too.
I feel like you'd have better luck buying on ebay/etsy/thread up.... or even maybe just get a friend to shop for you and make you a "mystery box" to open. idk. i would never pay that much for one of those sweaters... hell i wouldnt pay the 7 bucks you mentioned. are your stores really that expensive there? haha. i could get those shirts at the thrift shop in my town for like 3 bucks at the most XD
You could totally find stuff on Poshmark or depop for the same price but you actually get something you like and support a individual person! Like the shoes?! $30 would go a loooong way. Or the retro knit sweaters for $20 a pop you could get something cool for sure. But with this company it’s like one step before the trash ya know? And most people probably throw away a lot of the contents of these boxes or donate to the thrift and then the cycle continues! If the box was like $30 for all that then I think that would be more reasonable.
I had this sinking feeling, as the stuff kept coming out and being not so hot, that this is a size inclusivity thing. Alexa did get some cute stuff which, I know is random, but I bet they don’t keep as much mid/plus size items so you end up get a box full of tech seminar Tshirts and not cute stuff. I would put this company on blast - smaller size people might get cute shit, but it’s not pretty for plus size. Thanks for letting us know - I’m your size so I would definitely not take a chance with them, seeing how they are serving our body type with their stock:
Please, please will you try the 50lb box by ciao clothing?! I've been SO tempted to try it out but I'm scared I'm going to pay so much and something go wrong like not receiving or bad clothing. They have a plus size adult box. 💛
They charge you $30 for a pair of second-hand shoes and they don't even bother sending them?! It ain't even my money and I'm pissed off 🤣 Hope you can get your $60 back. I love the idea of the box but these items are definitely overpriced.
Blimey. The jury is out!!! The jury in my opinion came back with an unanimous fail. $60 on shoes which didn't turn up. Crappy stained sweaters at extortionate prices. I would be freaking out!
As someone who's purchased from Goodfair before, if there was anything you weren't happy with or didn't like in your order, you can report it on the site in detail and they'll send you new items for $4. I'd definitely report that your shoes were missing too, of course. I got sweatshirt and tie-dye tee bundles from them and was generally pleased. I got a band tee in the tie dye set for a group I don't listen to and resold it for more than what I paid for the bundle it came from. Not too shabby in my opinion. 💁😂
lol even if you don't have access to thrift stores near you, steer clear of this place. Mid- to late-November and HALF your order is still mysteriously missing? I'm sure people would prefer to not thrift over actually just throwing away their money. Definitely doesn't seem like "the jury is still out" on this place -- especially in a shitty year like this to be doing this kind of thing too. >:( Anyway, hope you get your overpriced secondhand shoes ( or your money back) soon! LOL
So it seems like this company buys bulk used clothes, then profits off of selling them for waaaaay waaaay more than they're worth. Also sucks bc they might be taking this from local thrift stores and making these items less accessible to those communities.
So I was going to immediately go buy some shoes; especially since you can order by size! But then...PRICE!!?!?...THEN!... Didn't even get the dern shoes! UGH!
Ok these mystery boxes are NOT it, but hear me out... the "White Holy Grail Distressed T-Shirts" from this company (Goodfair) are AMAZING!!!! I'm forever on the hunt for perfect vintage white tees and they deliver.
SIS, this company sucks and honestly I'm glad you showed us what a real experience with them is like. You had like 2 good items in this box but paid a million dollars for the box?! LAME. I LOVE your kind heart that gave them a chance to redeem themselves, but they suck. Let's try a different mystery box!
My fiancé and I tried Goodfair a long time ago and got ripped off lmao. Everything was pretty awful except the sweatpants. I still wear those. Everything else is still sitting in the box. We vowed to never try it again. I think it was $80 for 2 sweatpants, 2 sweatshirts, 2 Christmas sweaters, and 2 windbreakers so about ~10 per item which isn't that bad. But the stuff we got... stains, hideous, boring lol. I'd rather just find stuff myself that I know I'll like.
I keep trying to give Carrie more chances.. but honestly her distaste in EVERYTHING is so off putting. She buys clothes in larger sizes and then boasts to the internet that she should have sized down... when she knows...... she ordered an item large. Her thrift videos are so offensive. Some people can ONLY shop in the thrift and they could come online for outfit ideas on something in THEIR budget... and Carrie goes on and on about how ugly everything is, or sorry, she used the word mediocre. I'm done spending 15 minutes out of my day listening to this girl complain.. you have a platform.. do better.
CARRIE please order a thrift box from @sonnybygone on tiktok! She does mystery thrift box’s and is body positive. This would be my dream collab. PLEASEEEEEEE
You paid $100+ for a box of clothes that were mostly mediocre and didn’t really fit into the categories you requested as well as ripped off from getting the two most expensive items?! WTF!!! At that point, you might as well just buy new stuff from Target, Aerie, etc.
I had the same experience. A few things were just okay. I did luck out on a lucky brand flannel in good condition! The rest of the items I wouldn't pay NEARLY as much as I did for. Just not worth it in the slightest. My $50 would've been much better spent at an actual thrift store.
