Hi, Ron. I purchased the Slate AX a few weeks ago for an upcoming trip to Europe. A couple of questions: - The router does not have VPN capabilities, only the ability to connect to a VPN service - correct? - I bought a USB3.0 to Ethernet adapter for debricking purposes (should it be needed), as my laptop does not have a Ethernet port. The adapter has 2 USC3.0 ports and a USB-C port the literature that came with the adapter indicates can be used as a power source. Would I be able to power the router with a USB3.0 to USB-C cable, as opposed to using the wall plugin?

I power my Slate AX using a USB3.0 to USB-C cable. You can power from your computers USB 3.0 port or else power from a portable powerpack. Wall plugin not needed. Yes, you need to connect to a VPN service or Wireguard client (this actually is preferred because it's faster).

I bought this item from Amazon yesterday and after testing it, about 10 minutes later got overheated and the fan is not running, I had to return it for refund, I am not sure if that was a defective device, Furthermore, it does not have VPN capability , just providing VPN services , which I am not interested.

I go to a Timeshare that has WiFi. You have to log into the Timeshare webpage, enter a code and now you have WiFi. Just that device has WiFi, I am assuming it records your MAC address Does this Travel router let you do that?

Yes. All you need to do is before you log into your condos captive portal is make sure whatever device you use to log into the condos captive portal page is connected to the travel router first. Then put your information into the captive portal webpage via your device connected to the travel router and boom…your travel router gets internet access. Then you can connect other devices to your router as well. I have done this dozens of times.
